Dragon Age - Why does my torrented version play better than steam version?

seeyouspacec0wboyseeyouspacec0wboy Member UncommonPosts: 714

So I originally played DA via a torrent download. I proceeded to buy the game on Steam. Turns out that my torrented version played a bit better and looked better than the version I bought on steam. Also, with the torrent my fans barely kicked in, now they are on the whole time.

Has anybody else experienced this sort of thing?

Real life brings repetition and pointlessness too. The only thing real life offers is Great graphics. Its kinda expensive too and way to dependent on the cash shop. Totally pay to win as well. No thank you. Ill stick to my games.

I don't know anything about DA, but sometimes problems can happen installing the same game multiple times. The most common trouble arising from dead or redundant registry entries that don't get uninstalled when the program does?

Anyway, I hope someone else can actually help you. GL.

Could the torrented version have come with that mod that made a lot of the people/buildings/etc look better?  It's a pretty huge mod (over a gig) and improves looks a lot.

I did have to reinstall it after steam would not launch it the first time. How can I completely wipe every remnant of the game?

    Thanks : )

After uninstalling the game I'd first take a close look for any (normal) folders associated with it that didn't get deleted. Sometimes these folders include things like your old game settings, and can get put in places you might not expect them to be. Like your Windows 'User' folders, or even your 'My Documents' folder. Do a file search - maybe using the word dragon or such - and see what you can find.

As for registry entries, those can be very dangerous to fool around with. But in general if I was going to try it I'd:

    - Before uninstalling type 'regedit' in the command prompt to fire it up and take a close look at how entries I know are associated with the game are listed. I would be looking for a common search term I could later use for deletions that I was sure would not hose anything else on the computer. Like if every entry uses 'dragonage', there you go.

    - Uninstall the game, re-enter regedit, use the regedit search function, and then (carefully) delete every entry you are absolutely sure is associated with the game.

Of course none of this may help. Maybe you have a corrupted download, etc..

With the amount of memory and processing power on newer computers these days it's probably not much of an issue but when I tried playing a few games through Steam I noticed that the Steam program was running the whole time in the background and eating up some of my system resources (~100mb or so of memory iirc).

Maybe if you don't have much RAM this might have something to do with it.  I doubt this is the cause but worth noting if only for a process of elimination I think.

torrent or not, I couldn't stand it on PC after playing on X-Box.   The "point and click" was killing me.

    More than just a fanboy.
