Ehh... I'm no spam bot and I play UO and WoW both. I know this is my first post, but I'm on these forums to stay.
I haven't played UO in about a week now since I've been cracking on my "day job's" workload and working to get this thing up and online.
Our production team has joined forces with Mark Ordesky (exec producer of The Lord of the Rings films) to create an MMO-based, Adult Swim-style cartoon. It's pretty hilarious. I've played tons of MMO's but the most influential on this toon are WoW, DnD, and UO. A lot of the aesthetics and characters look right out of a WoW game, but the rules and sometimes ruthless world are similar to the early days of Ultima Online (pre-Trammel). The environments and creatures are very, very Dungeons and Dragons. It's a mishmash of RPGs.
So, our due date is September 15th, and then we shop this beast around. I personally hope we get it on G4, tho we're shopping it to MTV, Cartoon Network, Comedy Central, and others on top of that.
Here's a clip. The pilot episode will feature a Beholder and a powerful Rat Man as it's primary monsters, though neither are in the trailer. Still, let me know what you think and as a huge nerd, I look forward to contributing to the forums.

Thanks for sharing and I'll keep a eye on it, trailer does ask me to see more.
Not really into cartoons anymore (somehow) but things like this I can appriciatte.
And feel MMORPG's and it's players can be a HUGH source of information to create the cartoon you guy's are working on.
Thanks... and MMOs are a GREAT, neverending source of storylines.... from PKer's and how they ruin a game or make it better depending on whether or not you want to PK to things like leaving for other games or servers... or my fav. concept... trying to get your girlfriend to like a game she's intent on not liking, only to wish you hadn't when you can't get her to stop playing.

haha thanks for the info, the teaser was great:)
I am rooting for you and patiently waiting for the finished product:)

Good luck.
Actually I was pleasantly surprised. As with the final words of your teaser ..it sounds like the cartoon wont take itself very seriously either ..which I think is a right way to go.
Focus on targeting the WoW demographic and you will likely gain some audiance. Adult swim is a solid fit. I would also focus on Cartoon network, the teen channles of nick and perhaps even spike (which may be looking for a vehicle to get into now hot animation).
Good luck

When I saw you were working with the lord of the rings (Or whatever) I thought this was a joke. But apperently it is too good to be true.
From the trailer it seems like these 5 guys are going to defy the laws of the current MMOs, epic storyline
I'll be watching this, I hope to not be dissapointed.
Exactly! The series is about a lopsided, horribly matched team of "four tanks and a healer" who have to do their best to successfully defy the game's pre-set rules about having a balanced team. Basically, the hardcore snobs mock and harass them until they snap and vow to play the game their own way by their own rules no matter what the outcome. They occasionally succeed, using really crafty tricks and funny scenarios to "outsmart" the game... but other times they fall flat and get destroyed by other teams or powerful monsters. It's all really funny, I promise. The battle against the Elder Gazer is classic. MMO fans are gonna love this.

Let me guess....he's a DPS healer

sounds like a great concept. one with many many different areas to explore and side stories to focus on.
I really hope they have that constant newb begging for 1 gold so he can "buy my `insiert random item`"
Hah. My favourite beggar story was someone that kept saying "just give me some gold, i'll do anything!" to which i said "if you're willing to do ANYTHING, go kill some mobs, they drop gold.."

That'd be great, though I'd think it would better find its audience on G4?
I LOVED Code Monkeys...
Edited for stupidity: G4 was the first network ya mentioned... how'd I miss that? Good luck on the shopping!
haha, the Baldurs Gate games always had a character named "Noober" or something who would hassle you nonstop and ask stupid questions. I definitely want a recurring "noob" character who constantly begs for things. That could be hilarious. I have a few long-term ideas. I definitely want Malcom, the lead warrior, to have an arch rival who's a veteran player and a wizard who constantly one-ups him and defeats him in duels. Could lead to a good payoff later. I have a lot of good ideas from years playing MMO's and non-MMO RPGs. It's such an open book that hasn't been tapped story-wise yet. Truth be told, the hardcore MMO players need to be satired for their ridiculousness and sense of elitist superiority over casual gamers. I'm thrilled to see where this goes.
Thanks for the well-wishing and show your friends!
... I need to think of some cool mounts for other characters

Well, I'm interested. Seems like some lulz could be had from this little project. Please, keep us posted.
Kinda seems to me like it would only appeal to people very familiar with MMO's... and those people will be too busy actually playing an MMO and won't bother watching.
Not saying it wasn't clever and funny, just not sure what kind of market there is for it.
I liked it. Funny idea
TOP MMORPG GAMES
I think there would be market for it, MMO gmaers that are have burnt out, in between games, and even just RPG fans may enjoy some of the gags in it. Someone new to gaming culture may not get all the gags, and if there was a TPK reference, im sure lost of MMO gamers wouldnt get the reference, but a wipe they would understand. I like the idea of bringing satire of MMO's to the mainstream, seeing as the games themselves tend to be shooting for that market.
Seemed pretty funny. Not the first animated series about a MMO however: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.hack//Sign
Hack sign and the follow ups of it is somewhat more serious however. Anyone who wants to see that one can do so here as a stream: http://animeseed.com/index.php/site-content/anime-pages/hack-sign/?p=68
Haha nice. I'll watch it.
Oh man keep em coming, I really laughed out loud at 0:55 of the vid.
It's been forever.... but FOUR TANKS AND A HEALER will debut on TheOneRing.net one week from today on Friday, October 14th! It'll pop up around 11am Eastern time but no rush getting there since it'll stay up after that! This is a 2-part mini-series designed to kick off the real deal soon. MMO geeks are gonna love it.
TheOneRing.net ! 10/14/11
