Except for the upgraded (and awesome) graphics... What new additions to the game will make this a better game then FF XI?

I personally don't have much experience with FFXI, when i finally found the time to play it i never got past the initial free month, because by then i was invited intoo the WoW beta test. So i am not the person to answer this question.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Everything I'm about to write here is purely speculation on my part, but here goes.

The important to remember about things being "better" is it's all based on prospective and what you like more.

You already mentioned the graphics so i'll skip that. I will agree though that xiv's graphics look awesome.

Character Progression - Most of XI's charter progression was done by getting a well rounded group together. Then finding a nice camp to set yourself in for a few hours and then pulling mobs as close to none stop was you could to get as much xp out of your time that you could. In XIV it sounds to me, from what i've read here on the forums and else ware, that the main form of progression will be the guildleves. Which will scale in difficulty from soloable quests to quests that take entire raids to complete. IMHO it sounds like the guildleve system will provide enough diversity in not just the challenge alone but in the different quests by them selves to keep me interested.

Character Jobs/Classes - At first when I heard of the change that XIV was making to XI's job system I was a little concerned. in XI you had the ability to have a subjob, which was half the level of your main job (assuming you leveled it) and with it, all the spells and advantages. In XIV most skills will be able to be mixed and matched from ANY job that you've leveled, BUT you may only have a certain number of spells "equiped". This is the example most commonly used, let's say you're a guardian, a guardian that has leveled conjuror in the past. Now, you're a guardian with a healing spell and now, DUN DUN DUN DA, you're a "paladin", because you can both heal yourself and tank. The possibilities go a lot deeper than that though. I think it will be very interesting to see some of the combinations people come up with and how they use them.

End Game -If XIV lives up to what XI did with end game, or even half of what XI did, people should find it great for quite some time.

PvP - Many people are speculating that the devs will add in PvP in close to the same manner that XI had. Which was very slow and tactical, it was something where you needed to think your actions through before just bashing your keyboard wildly.

Crafting - I haven't seen enough (anything) about crafting in XIV to really make a statement but for me personally the crafting in XI was always very confusing. I never knew what combinations made what, if you using a water crystal on a fire day apparently that was bad, if you were facing the wrong direction that was bad. Just typing it out here hurts my head a little bit. Deep crafting in XIV would be more than okay with me, I just hope that it's explained in a very nice way.

That's all I really feel comfortable discussing because i'll happily admit that I am not master of either game. It's important to remember though that what I find better, you may not. I hope this gives you some information to start making a decision.
