Need an MMO to play that is more about fun and not about math

Roadkill2000Roadkill2000 Member Posts: 32

While i have played World of Warcraft on and off for the past 3 yrs i have also played others. None of those held my attention much and always went back. The problem is that u cannot log into Wow anymore without seeing that GS mod spammed all over the place and unrealistic DPS requirements for raids unless u play constantly there is almost no way a regular person can get them until the raid is outdated. Wow has become nothing more than a flaming pile of poo with all the fun drained and math equations with so called Elitist buttheads running wild. While i understand some work harder than others the whole personallity of this game isnt of fun anymore its more of an aggravation than anything. Anyone out there know of a MMO that  while challenging isnt completely lost all touch of what it is supposed to be played for in the first place...FUN.

Applications for MMO guilds??? Sorry not that pathetic just yet

Yeah, I know how it is mang.

Too many people put the kind of investement into a game as they would with a second job, and if any percieved setbacks might cost them an extra 20 minutes that *could* be used to grind harder, they are going to fire people from the group runs. Effing lame.

    My recommendation is this;

    A. Wait for an upcoming game like FFXIV, where I am very sure nobody is going to give a shit about any considerable gear outputs. There are others too, like Global Agenda (wait for the sandstorm xpac) and perhaps try APB or any of the ones gaining hype here currently (tera, rifts, blade and soul).

    B. Play something *now* while you wait for it. I recommend Dungeon Fighter, as I'm truly having a blast in that game. Just don't go spending money on the CS avatars, because it's totally random. At best, you can wait till endgame to buy them off players for in-game currency, or cave in and buy some random avatar items and trade up for what you want. I ended up spending 10$ on it and regretted it the moment I got 4 ugly pieces that I'm having a hard time getting rid of. I basically have to market it to a single subclass of the type I play as, and that one in particular is only good in PvE, and hard to find wandering about.

Everything changed Roadkill when mmo devs starting looking at mmo's not as a SOCIAL tool and enviroment.. but as some cyber E-sport game..  When I started playing EQ1 before Kunark in 99, it was about social association..  We didn't look for ways to exclude people from grouping or raiding, but how do we include them..  Games like WoW are exactly the opposite..  dps too low, good bye.. deffence too low good bye.. healing bonus too low, get lost.. GS is only 5K piss off.. etc etc..  Where are the days that a character's skills and willing to have fun was most important, not "what gear are you wearing"..

I loathe gear driven games, as I believe that attacks the weakest part of the human mind.. greed and envy and used it to motivate people to play :(  sad.. sad and sad :(

I find the E- sport funny because it is true, but sad because there are people with less of a life than me.

I also hate the WoW acronyms and stat efficiency to do static tasks to be rather sad, boring and frustarating.

I for one think sports are activites which require physica ability, not mental.

EDIT: I personally think companies make games for money, discarding all fun for potential funds for their greedy greedy greedy greedy greedy purposes.

    I dislike companies

... the suits with business degrees that think their BA in business/marketing makes them some kind of gaming guru. More often than not, it's the board of directors that decides what is getting made, and they will tell the design team "we want *this* kind of game, now go do it".

Edit; and most of them don't even deserve their credentials because all they do is research what is coming out and try to make a product to compete with it or ride it's coattails. /face_palm. Everyone knows you try to be the *first* to the market with something, but because of the risk of it becoming niche, they would rather gamble on "sure-fire, crappy knockoffs". They don't deserve their paychecks in many circumstances, imo.

MMOs like any other game is supposed to be about fun, while some people like that kind of attitude that Wow is now pertraying the core of the game is still fun but like u said, the people make the game a pain. I have alot of friends on Wow that i do not know in actual RL. The only thing this GS mod mentallity is gonna prove is that the common player will leave if they cant compete with the so called Elitists (most of which dont have an actual life to attend to). Not saying all but most. Whether people agree or not the Casual player is where the money is and the hardcore attitude is fading away like it should. Games are meant to have fun, while competiton is both fun and healthy in moderation, games should always be about community and helping others have fun with u. Hopefully the mentality that is currently running rampant will drive itself into the ground and MMOs will become what they should be, Communities having fun.

I completely agree with the OP.  That is exactly why I quit playing WoW.  I realized that when I was logged in the game it felt like I was working and that I was no longer having fun.  I've been trying other games recently but not much sucess.  I've been replaying RPGs lately waiting for an mmo worthy of my money to come by.  I've very picky with finding a new mmo now so my money won't part easily (thanks AoC, WAR and Aion!).  I just want to jump in a game, and have some fun with some people.  Not even always serious game stuff.  I like to just mess around and have a good time.  The side-activities in GW2 sound right up my ally.  Bar fight anyone?

Action game maybe like vindictus or c9 (both are like lobby games) or sign up for tera beta testing.

Tera looks like pure fun all action with very little stat crunching.

Good luck in finding a game you like.

And don't let the GS stuff get you down. You can have the standard 5k in no time. Also, me and my friends decided we were all playing the game wrong, so for cata we plan on ignoring net strategies and learning the raids ourselves. The game is what you make it. I don't avoid bars just because douche bags go out too.

    Speak for yourself.

I exclusively go to dive bars where the old timers hang out, because the last thing I want to deal with is screaming idiots who just turned 21... with their smug expressions, excessive *loud* bragging on stupid shit, and use of "product" in their hair. Seems to me a whole generation is going through some kind of gay-macho phase, and if I don't avoid it, I'm going to end up laying people out on beer #2.

Cataclysm does look pretty cool and hopefully will make the game fun again, also im a big Final Fantasy fan so im looking forward to that game and Guild Wars 2 as well. If old faithful Wow cant keep my attention after the xpac i will have a few games to look foward to and as they will probably never be as big on subscriptions they are most definitely gonna be good games. Hopefully with more emphasis on the important things.

Before a mod comes in and edits out all the funny, there is a simile with going to bars and hating the crowd; much like it is in online game communities. It's behavioral science, and there is a lack of order because asses cannot recieve a proper kicking.

Darkside may want to try Darkfall . ..?! May hate it, but may love it like I have too . ..?

Other games to suggest would be DAOC (old but stil kicking a bit), EVE (pvp w/ more mind power over hand-eye coordination), VANGUARD (exploration and great quest chains), AOC (nudity and blood!), GUILDWARS (best for money and ost casual friendly), Global Agenda (fun for being casual for the MMO/FPS lover), . ... that about it that I can think of atm.

There are a lot of options besides WoW . .. My GF ended her WoW sub for Darkfall. That is our favorite by far right now.

we probably hate each other, but I'm 100% with you on this

Going to have to join in on this.

I've spent hours trying to find the douche free old timer bars. It's the only way to drink.

If I wanted douchebags and annoying music, I'd be at a club not a bar.

@OP: I'm playing EQ2 and it's a nice relaxed community (at least where I am)

My best advice though is wait for FFXIV, the FFXI community was the best I've ever seen, I hope this next one will be decent as well.  Though I expect the first few months to be the filtering for the kido's.
