FFXIV takes place in the land of Eorzea...it's an entirely new world.  New map, new characters, new everything.  You won't find the likes of Shantotto or Aht Urghan or anything here.

FOR THE LAST FREAKING TIME, FFXIV IS NOT A DIRECT SEQUEL TO FFXI.  It's an entirely new MMO.

Christ, even the staff writers here have been fucking this up.

In all of the rabid fandom defense in this thread, does anyone see the illogic here? It's a COMPLETELY different world so WHY THE FUCK do the races look EXACTLY THE SAME? I can call a dog a tipadoo...but its still a DOG!

Just accept the complete illogic of this doublespeak, and stop defending it. You can tell me its a new world and new lore, but when you show me 4 races that look identical to the last MMO you made ( with a few cosmetic changes), I have to cry shenanigans. I don't really care, never played FFXI, but for the sake of my sanity I had to point out the complete insanity in this thread.

I honestly think that's more SQEENIX trying to make the game more familiar to those who played FFXI.  Personally I'd prefer some Bangaa and Vierra from good old Tactics Advance...but w/e.  I'm sure that the races are going to have different backgrounds, etc.  They really just share the appearance...that's it.

I believe they are using the same settings because it cut back on production time, frankly I don't mind and if they can improve on what they had before it'll be a whole new experience regardless.

Y'all are being ignorant. Not second poster, first. Anyways, it's not a copy of FFXI. It's a new game, same races. Different world, same races. Different story, same races. Different class system, same races. Different stats system, same races. Different armor system, same races. New clan system, old races. New cities, old races. It's new and it's different, just has old races with NEW names. Case settled.

I'm pretty sure Pallytime created this thread to be a joke thread where we all came up with our ideas of how the galkas lost their tails...   Everyones just missing the point lol....

  • SatansPuppetSatansPuppet Member Posts: 55

Taru's there's only so much you can do with a tail constantly in your face... So the Taru's in a sly manouver, docked the tails of those in their parties...

One day the tailed ones are running from vendor to vendor and then BAM they fall over, their dynamics, their balance is gone... as is their tail... it dropped off!!

All because they underestimated and ridiculed the importance of a Taru in a party!

  • ValdosValdos Member Posts: 29

Similar races bother you = Don't play it then.

Similar races don't bother you = Enjoy.

Ok so Roegadyn (galka)  lost their tails cause they would have tripped over them while raiding on their pirate ships or would have caught on fire in their volcano homes; depending on where they come from. image

Also they saw what pretty tails Miqo'te (mithras) get this time around so they bowed out gracefully.  >^.^<  lol image

We can be friends, however there is a 'Friendship Fee' of 10 gil a day, starting from commencement of said friendship, the total is to be payable on launch of the standard edition of the game.

Friendship Perks? you get to be best mates with the bestest Taru around (Or whatever they're called), a superb healer and hater of long leggers.

We at the first post are all being ignorant. I know that is a different world, story and all those other things. The point was why the same races in a whole new story. Kinda strange that this planet called Eorzea have the excatly same species as that other world called vanadiel. Is such an immersion killer.

I can make a movie and put Chewbaccas and twi'lek in it. Peoples would still think is star wars no matter how hard I tried to say is a whole different setting from SW.

The case was settled long ago, not from you but from SE. This is just a forum where I can say what I think just for the heck of it so no need to call names. Your precious will not get doomed from a comment.

the reason they are simular is because the planets are in the same solar system from my understanding

But their one are space-faring planets, so how do you planets have almost the same exact sentient races, creatures, foliage, etc?

Let's hope there is a very interesting story connection going on here, can't wait to find out...even if I am a bit put off that they really couldn't get some new races in here.

It's like making a "whole new" cartoon series where mickey mouse has an earring and is called frankie rat and donalds hat is red and is called george the goose.

in my books it's called being lazy and out of original ideas.

The only thing that would make sense if it's some kind of connection in lore between these two FF games. Otherwise it looks strange. So anybody knows if there is a connection?

I just think the devs couldn't make up their mind to whether Galkas were apes or armadillos, then they decided for the former on this route, and that means going sans tail.

But think about how many games have had the dwarves, elves, orcs, and goblins from Lord of the Rings' Middle Earth. I wouldn't call that an immersion killer, so why here?

The reason for putting a short, stocky, bearded, drunken, underground race called "Dwarf" in your MMO and not a short, scaly, three-eyed, religious, underground race called "Bafmodad" is that your audience already knows Dwarves and there's a portion who will always play one if they are available (and consider it a serious negative if they can't). Quite a few MMO players prefer to keep making the same character from game to game. It's not a no-brainer that they should have kept the races the same, but it's not a terrible idea either. Plenty of people from FFXI will want to create a character that is exactly what they had in FFXI.

Is different. Those are part of a folklore. Been used for ages in books, movies and games. However when you create new characters for this new world it's stucked on that universe.

What would you think if you saw this character in a movie.

You can calll him fluffy if you want too. You still would think is a predator having to do with the whole predator world setting.
