Developer eGenesis has announced the imminent end to A Tale in the Desert IV with A Tale in the Desert V looming on the horizon. As the game as it is currently played comes to a close, players will have the ultimate choice to make: Who will become pharaoh for ATitD V?
At the close of A Tale in the Desert III, the death of the old pharaoh left his two sons pulling in opposite directions. Now it's up to players to decide once and for all whom they will follow. Sami promotes the good life while his brother, Wahib, believes in hard work to bring meaning to life. Unlike real life ascension to the throne, A Tale in the Desert players will have the ultimate power: A server-wide election for pharaoh will be held to decide who will rule.
And choosing the new ruler will have in-game implications as well: Sami's ascension to the throne will bring about up to seven new technologies with the potential to completely alter the way the game is currently played. These new technologies affect the way everything in the game is built or constructed. If Wahib is elected, things currently in place for ATitD IV will continue unchanged in ATitD V.
Find out the exact particulars of the upcoming election or get involved in the game via a free trial at the official A Tale in the Desert IV site.

Isnt this the game where the main dev is giving a shit about community and trys to milk them as much as possible?
No thank you.

Beyond the unecessary snarkyness seen above, I am very willing to give this game a try once the fresh start begins. Kind of been avoiding it just because I feel like I'm late to the party.

Xianthos, you're statement is confusing, it seems to me that "where the main dev is giving a shit about community" is a good thing. Did you possibly mean to use "isn't" instead of "is"?
Please note, other than the article on mmorpg and the fact that they are taking Bitcoins, I don't know anything about that game.
Lost my mind, now trying to lose yours...
Neither does he...

Is this the game where there is no combat?

This is an awesome, awesome game. Among the best MMOs in existence, easily. I was playing when the fourth telling started, but after a couple of months I had to stop due to suddenly not having enough spare time. I think it needs a lot more attention than your average MMO, and this is really a very good thing. Except when you just can't find enough spare time to keep up :-/
I absolutely encourage people to give it a shot. Simple act of making glass, or building a house, or digging for rocks was never so much fun.
Always wanted to try the game. Is the 24 hour free period real time or played time?
It's played time. There's a 2nd server currenting in Telling 4 that isn't too far along too, if you wanted to get more in on the ground floor instead of joining the ending. Or you can wait until Telling 5 starts in a few weeks.
Prob wait till 5. Do some more research till then.
I do sadly. There were news some months ago about this game. It sounded very interessting till i went to the forum of this game. After reading several hours about the game i knew all about the game i had to know. It wouldnt be fun for me.
There were several discussion on going how barely the devs were listening to community and other stuff.
Yeah :P you can change in your head the "isnt" to "is" as there isnt an edict function.
Sorry for bothering you with my lack of grammar.

So you are saying that you took complaints from a game forum seriously... ones that said "the devs don't listen to us".
Yeah, it's not like i haven't heard that before, so it must be true.
(I can understand not digging the play of the game itself... but *come on*)

I never told its the only one point, which done KO for me to test the game. There were severals. Another were that you are pretty fucked up if you try to join a tale which is already running as the old players arent interessted to do the "disciples" which they already done before and you cant complete them solo. And some other reasons.
But my point stands this game sounds interessting, but at the end it wouldnt be fun for ME! :-)

I remember finding this game when it was just in tale 2, played it for a bit then picked it back up and played a ton of tale 3. Great, great game if you don't mind all the running, i believe there is ways to port to other area's, but still a ton of running. And of course there was spouse warp if you got married in game you could warp to where ever your spouse was. I might just pick this back up when tale 5 starts just to be on even ground with everyone and not left behind.
I remember discovering the game in beta and The main guy back then was freely giving out his cellphone number to players - it might not have been the smartest move, but it sure as hell showed to me that he cared passionately about not just his game, but the playerbase too.
ATITD has always been a niche game and something that many of us just don't understand. For those that do however, it's really the ultimate sandbox and one might even argue that it's perhaps even more than just a game.
As for them not caring about players, just look at how the game is run - it's not devs that call the shots, it really is the playerbase.
