Downloading Eve...

AxewielderxAxewielderx Member Posts: 96

Obviously this game has large learning curve,so if anyone has tips, suggestions, etc. feel free to drop them here or send me a pm. Thx in advance for any help!:)

As a side note, I have been looking through the EVE wiki and have noticed as much information as it has there, it seems even more seems to be missing. Is there a better place to learn about this game?

.. or it could be because those 12 viewers never played the game, and thought you were asking something else. Such as - where do I download the game?

I've only played the trial, so the only advice I can give is to do the tutorials - obviously.

And the community is very friendly. There's a 'help' box in the chat so new players can ask questions. A lot of vets and mods sit around in the help chat all day and answer questions. I've had plenty to ask, and they were all answered.. I did have to repeat my questions a bunch of times (mostly due to so many flooding the chat), but I've never had a question go unanswered.

You think thats unfriendly of the EvE players? Oh just wait till you ingame. If you can't handle that everyone and their moms wanna kill and scam you in eve, then don't install it.

search for battle clinic.  thats got a ton of info.

take your time.  once you get away from mission running, you basically setup your own rules goals and desired achievements

    enjoy it.

Tip 1, which is constantly thrown into the mix...  train some learning skills early. they make it easier to learn skills. and maxing isnt as important early on as later.

Tip 2.  Be picky about your player corp. Have requirements, and find one that meets or exceeds yours.

    Tip 3, have fun!!

    One post on eve's site.

there are a ton of guide also.

Many people will encourgae learning many of the learning skills early up to level 2-3 in each is not a bad idea but i prefer to wait on the 4s and 5s with new toons.

I recomend gettign into cruisers and battle cruisers early.

Getting into a cruiser fast will allow you to earn much more money faster (same with BC).

The races are different in what ships they fly and their ships are best equiped w/ different weapons that lead to different shooting and tankign styles pick oen you like. All of the following are generalizations and trend you see, there are always execptions.

Missles are easy and power for noobs (caldari) they use alot of shield tanking (passive or not) this means that theyhave good damage, but their tanks are weaker for noobs (but often cheaper). Caldari also use hybrid weaposn but few of their ships do so ... stick with missle skills.

Drones are good , very good. I rate drops are one of the best sources of damage it mayeb take a biut of gettign used to but they do a lot of damage don't miss much and you can switch drones to use the most effective type of damage you want. Gals also have great armor tanks and good weapon system lots hybrind guns (I rate them the highest pve damage all around). Becuase you need soem skills in both drosn and guns it takes more time to be as effective ... but not a lot of more time.

Lazors are fun. Ammar shoot lazors , they are normally armor tanked (the best at it, the best tank build ships in the game). They shoot lazors which is nice becuase you don't have to buy ammo much (in stead you use lenses for your lazors) which last much longer and take up little room. You also have many different options for range/damage so thast nice. I personally don't care for ammar but they have the best looking ships, and armor tank + lazors is easy to train (not as easy as caldari i feel however but close... just becuase missle are so easy).

Minis are FAST. They have the fastest ships anywhere. Their ships use missles and projectial weapons. Projectial have low ranghe but man do they shoot big freakign rounds. Their ammo types also are very different and allow various types of damage. I like minis. But they are easily the most skill intensive as they also have a few drones on their ships. Soem of their better ships (even more so for pve) will have missles, turrets (guns), and a a good number of drones on them. Thsi requires good skill in each to ber as effective. Additionally, their ships are armor or and shield tanked. So depending on what ship it is a shield tank is better or an armor tank is better. Here is even more skilsl required. Their ships are also the most ugly.  But hey its fun to have oen ship that uses missle and guns and drones and armor tanks or shield tanks, allows you to build/configure/set them up differently.

Mining wasa good way to make money ... its has been nerfed over and over and over agian , becuase of all the bots that ccp does nothign about but nerf the value of mins. making newcomers not even able to experience that aspect fo the game. For shame. I feel they should super unnerf minerals, mbut make mining an active process that cannot be botted. There is a solution.

No matter what race you pick, it doesn't matter. (im mini, but fly caldari and gal Battle ships, and not so much mini battle ships.) It just takes the tiem to train those skills from 0 skill. Where as if you start xxx race you get more skills. But i think they nerffed how much you get a while back... not sure at soem point you also got a ton of skill points off the bat.  What i can suggest is if you get any options anymore go flying, flyining and flying and maybe soem guns. As for stats avoid charisma and the rest are good int and memory the best off the bat to learn those evil learning skills (also help with drone skills which is nice if gal).

The goal is to get to a largers ship asap.

    You'll start in frigates.

best frigates for each race are

    Ammar - punisher

Caldari -  Kestrel (missles) merlin (turrets)

    Gallente - Tristan or incursus

Minmatar - rifter (i love this frig)

skip destroyers - they are pointless.

Now your goal is to get rid of those frigates, some people say learn skills etc that will allow you to fully use a larger ship before equiping oen , i say BS. Bigger ships = more money.

Cruisers are good ships, you will want to use these for a while but still battle cruisers are so much better.

    Best crusiers per race

    AMmar - Omen or maller.

    Cal - Caracal (missles)

Gal - Thorax (turrets) or vexor (drones) - off the bat thorax easier.

    Mini - Rupture

Now by the tiem you gte to BC's you shoudl know what ship to get but. Let me poitn it this way way befoire you get here you should have base levels of learnign skills done, know who to fire your weaposn type be able to fly a few drones and larger ones.

Your BC and you will be together for a long long time. They can do lvl 3s with ease and even soem l4s (tho i would stick to lvl 3s)

Another thign you should do is run missions for corps that have good rewards usually that races navy/army/etc. google it or ask in noob chat , what corp to run missions with if i want rep equip/ships.  As you do missiosn you will get items/isk (money) but also ip which will allow you to use that corps stores and buy req ships or equip , that you can sell for a lot... or in some cases fly your self (don't buy anything smaller than bc or bs rep ships they don't sell and are not worth using).

Oh well might have missed something but gl.

Or wondering why this wasn't posted in the EvE forum where people actually know about said game.

you will have to learn patience ;)

and to not look for the next ship constantly, its better to get the max out of one ship type - ofc that is completely your choice but skills means alot, especially the basic ship skills, to begin with - those that can be useful on all ships.

As someone else said, had this been posted in the EVE section of this forum you'd likely get a few more answers.

Speaking of which, if you read the many new player type threads in the EVE section you'll see tons of great adivice, links to guides etc.

You want advice?  Never fly what you can't afford to lose (repeatedly)

It isn't a matter of if you're going to lose your ship, its just a matter of when.

^ that. It took me a few months before I really got into EvE, before that I was just playing on and off.

Yeah, even if you do not actually seek them out - they have a wealth of information, guides, videos, and the rest available for people looking to learn more about the many aspects of the game.

I didn't play eve a lot but here's my bit of experience:

    A) Tutorials => a must

    B) Seek some information/guide sites. I don't remember them but i think you can find some via the Eve website/forum

    C) Never wander into low sec zones in a ship you don't want to lose (0.4 and lower)

    D) If it's too good to be true , than ye it's a trap. Eg: some people make some buy orders at ridiculous high prices on certain stations , be prepared to be destroyed by pirates if you go there.

    E) try to find your path. While at first skills research quite quickly , you'll soon realize some will take 10days+ to research and if you want to specialize in both crafting/mining and combat, well , good luck :p Try to find what you want to do most and invest your skills into that path.

How about one day? That is how long it took for me to find a messed up tutorial and decide to delete the game. If you can find problems that early in the game, there is no reason to believe you won't find more later.

So it was design flaws that caused me to leave and not impatience, but really, thx for your concern.

I reactivate and eventually deactivate my EVE account every year and a half, but I can say that one of the best ways to both learn and experience EVE is to just immerse yourself in PVP off the bat by joining the newbie-friendly Red vs. Blue.

I disagree with the don't get new ships idea in eve. Off the bat gettign new ships off the bat means more money = bigger ships and better equip on your smaller ships, there is no other fact to counter this.

After a while stopping at cruiser or battle cruiser is a good idea (cruiser if you don't yet understand the game well.) But staying in anything smller than a cheep cruiser after the first week and a half is .. weak.
