I've been playing age of conan for two months now. I am having a hard time going back to wow.
Hyboria is a cooler world and feels more 'real' to me than wow.
I am enjoying the raid content and the dungeons too.
I've got a maxed out lvl 80 warlock in wow. I've got the mountain of mounts achievement, etc...
Although I love wow, it just doesn't compare to AOC.
Looking forward to hearing the trolls...

I totally agree with you. I never had any interest in Conan and originally thought it was a terrible IP for an MMO.
I was introduced to one of the most fascinating, interesting fantasy world/lore from the game. The graphics are far superior to anything else.
The main negatives I have with the game are the expansion. Nothing more than a time sink designed to take advantage of the Asian market.
The other negative is people keep leaving. A game is only as good as the people you play it with. People tend to leave in droves. Not sure why, but they do. Full Guilds turn to empty ones over night. Friends list show people off line for 100+ days.
I think most people can't run AOC they way they run WOW in regards to their PC Hardware and that really hurts.
The last negative thing I can say is the "Direction". It's like it does not know where it wants to go.
PvE player having fun no surprise there , glad you found a game you like give it some time though. Aoc is an immediate pleasure MMO but does not have long term playability.
the new expansion has definately improved this game A LOT. before the expansion there just wasn't much to do when you got to 80 besides the same old few raids and trying to farm some gold. it always felt quite linear, restricted, a bit shalow and somewhat clunky. i' v played AoC on and off since launch and wile this game always had potential it really seemed to always lack depth even after most of the buggs were fixed. Now with Rise of the God Slayer it's truly matured into an awesome game, easely in the top 3 of all time. the huge zones, the factions, the new raids, the new dungoens, all the things to do just fitt in so well.
i can no longer look at those cartoony WoW graphics for more then a few minutes before finding that game so silly and plain uggly. good job Funcom.
I would also add that the OP will return to WOW for Cataclysm and most likely once leaving AOC, wont return. I do not know why but they seem to have a hard time retaining subs or getting people to return (and stay).
I have seen huge booms of returning players that quickly dwindled away with in a two week period.
I honestly just don;t think any MMO is worth $15.00 a month. No one has time to play more than one and if you are going to pay for one, it might as well be the number one MMO that EVERYONE else is playing.
Mountain of mounts achievements? Big deal, try raiding hard modes, nothing in AoC compares to it.
Meh... I'd think it should be 'might as well be the MMO that you enjoy playing most' instead of following ANY herd just because others do.
If the MMO that you're enjoying most is WoW, then good for you, indeed go play that one. If the MMO you enjoy most while playing is GW, LotrO, AoC, CO, EVE, EQ2, Ryzom or another, then also good for you, go play that one.

WoW was my WoW killer. I played at launch and after getting one character to max level and doing a few MC raids I was done with the game. Too basic and simplistic for my tastes. Felt a bit dumbed down even back then.
Glad you are enjoying AoC. Hope the buzz lasts longer than the usual few months it lasts for other people. I've been back 3 months and already I'm playing it less and less.
BTW.. do you have the achievement Mountain of Mounts?
What's your character's name so I can see your achievements, particularly mountain of mounts?
Age of Conan was a WoW-killer for me. I was struggling with a WoW addiction and the hope of Age of Conan in the not too distant future broke me of that. A couple delays later I was able to play the game and got to 80 and ignored the woes I heard around me. Tried rerolling every class and got burnt out on it. Haven't played the expansion.
Trolls point out the flaws in other people's logic. Ignoring them ENTIRELY is not in your own best interest.
Whether or not some idiot/bafoon is taking pleasure in a storm coming and delighting in the trouble that may come doesn't stop that storm from coming - I get the feeling some people have spited themselves just so that they can laugh at the troll.
Just when you think you have all the answers, I change the questions.
Krewel (EU), why do you wish to know that, lol?
I don't have mountain of mounts achievements, do you even know what that is? It means you need to collect 100 mounts. Does that sound epic for you? Okay, I do have 75 companion pets, I am a sucker for such foolish achievements, no doubt, but mountain of mounts ... bleh.
However, I did lots of hardmode encounters (25) and they are simply breathtaking (ok, not all, but most are :P )
Grinding 5,000 imperial tokens, and a godawful amount of MOA's to get one special mount is epic?
That's a sad way to spend your free time, doing something because a lot of people seem to be doing it (especially since the bigger chunk of those people are from asia). Following crowds basically. What else do you do? You look at others to see what they like and start liking it also? Is that something you do on a general level? Like if a new car comes out and it has huge sales, you gonna get it because everyone else has it...? That's pretty lame. Get you own opinion, and make your own choices based on your own criteria, not just because others are doing it.
Some ICC hard modes are good, most are meh. Most ICC hard modes just feel recycled. I vastly preferred Sarth and Uldar hard mode styles myself. Couple this with Blizz's lack of desire to fix dps imbalances (*cough fury warriors*) or healing issues (druids on heroic LK) makes WoW raiding more about proper stacking and getting peeps to actually show up more than anything else.
The six mans in AoC are a lot of fun. They are a lot more enjoyable than running heroic HoS / OK for the hundredth time for badges on a alt. I still enjoy my matches in WoW. Each person has their own likes and dislikes. If raiding hard modes works for you cool enough, but do not expect everyone to feel the same way.
Well the population levels of WoW and AoC shows that a hell of a lot more people enjoy WoW's model.
Well hell of a lot people listen to Pop music instead of metal as well.
Hmmmmm, I wonder how much more popular Coke is compared to Pepsi.
I just dl'd AOC trial so I am hoping it is as good as you say

The game is very solid for levels 1-20, it's once you hit max level 80 that you'll find the game lacking.
While there's of course a lot to be said for the relationship between popularity and how enjoyable a product is, there's also a limit to that link, it's certainly not a 100% 1 on 1 relationship.
As examples in the music genre show is that the music hits and albums that have the highest sales aren't automatically the ones that have the best songs in the music genre or seen as the greatest contributions to the genre, as some pop music hits prove. Or another example, while Avatar proved to be the box office sensation of 2009, it was the lesser known Hurt Locker that was the champion at the Oscar Awards.
Tastes differ, as it should be.
The popularity argument is as always an interesting one, but in essence flawed.

Actually the poularity arguement when it comes to MMO's is not flawed for one simple reason
Popularity = Subs
The more subs you have the more revenue you have coming in. AoC needs to retain subs something the game has failed at since launch, if you don't believe me just look at their quarterly reports.
I loved the game, as well. I got it when it first came out and left the starters island only to go into a world that wasn't finished. This pissed me off and I was premature to give it a chance. I am thinking about returning, but Fallen Earth is looking better IMO.
I've been playing for a couple days now, just got out of tortage and loving it
alot of people saying that the enjoyability only lasts for a couple months seem to prefer powerleveling so im taking my time and not even worrying about my level, i hear theres three tiers for raids and stuff now so 'endgame' doesnt seem that bad.
could i just add to the low subscriber theory;
27 gigs for a game is freaking massive, so i dont think many people are actually bothering with the trial, i know i didnt even though i wanted to several times, especially since my internet has a data limit, it took trying out the game at my mates place to give it a go
You're responding in a thread where the OP states that he enjoys AoC. You were responding upon a quote where another person mentioned what he liked more in AoC than in WoW.
Stating the popularity of WoW as a counter argument doesn't make the OP's and the other posters' liking of AoC's gameplay aspects wrong nor does it prove that the 6m dungeons of Khitai are any less fun than WoW's or other MMO's dungeons for that matter: tastes differ.
The popularity = subs is food for discussion, but clearly not one that was being held in this thread.

While I enjoyed WoW for a long time it started to lose its luster over a year ago for me. Have not tried AoC so no comment there. WoW I can comment on, I can see the attraction of WoW because I had it for a long time, it is a simple game really, some of the mechanics are easy and you can get going in no time, hardly a learning curve to the game. Which is good if you want to get into it and not worry about finding a party to level. I think that was one of the biggest things that I enjoyed about the game, the solo factor. I understand that its an MMO and its all about parties and stuff but there is so much more to the game than parties.
Take for example the WotLK expansion heck take BC as well, everyone rushed to get to max level, you had guilds taking everything down in Naxx with in weeks. What the hell is that about, how can you enjoy the game if you rush through it? There is so much lore in the game and so many things to do its rediculous but most people skip it all, they like the 10% of the game that is end game. Ok it might be more than 10% but the fact remains that they skip most of it, might as well get Blizz to grant you lv 80 and all the purples and just let you do end game. Unfortunatly it ruins it for a lot of people that want to take there time and enjoy the rest of the game, the guild you are in are all about 'hurry up, we need you at end game!'
While other games make it harder to do this since you are forced to party and when you can't get a party to level you are hosed, no level for you tonight! Take FFXI for example it was an enjoyable game for me, played it before WoW but it was hell when it came to leveling since you where forced to party to do so. Hope they learned that Parting is a pain in the butt and make it a tad easier in FFXIV which from everything they are saying it will be soloable.
