This is a load of crap, the pvp is very much a grind to get into non-crap vehicals. There are about 5-6 maps total, although they do look nice. There is no subsciption fee yes, but if you want to be even moderately competitive, prepare to dole out serious cash at launch to buy the better ammo, better tanks, better xp and cash income, and actual in-game cash as well. In fact you can go from smallest vehical to largest in about 4 hours if you pay a small fortune. Or about 6 months the free way. As for the tanks, yes there are a large number of them, however currently this game is focused around artillary NOT tanks. I know, rather funny with the name being WORLD OF TANKS instead of WORLD OF ARTILLARY. After the newbie rounds, you'll find more artillary and destroyers than actual tanks being played.
And finnaly the game suffers from both bad lag spikes as well as players warping around the battlefied (Some intentionaly as a exploit mechanic, as you can't hit anyone when they are lag warping.) And the game's balance is abysmal between tanks/destroyers/and artillary, called SPGs.
Yes, the game is closed beta, (It's really open beta labeled as closed beta as they can't even give away all the keys there are so many.) and if you want to test the game go ahead, just don't expect to enjoy the game unless you are using artillary.

To find an intelligent person in a PUG is not that rare, but to find a PUG made up of "all" intelligent people is one of the rarest phenomenons in the known universe.
If you really expect to play this for free, you're going to be cannon-fodder for while, or should I say "arty-fodder" light tanks get destroyed! I dont know yet but I believe 50-100 euros, you can get things really rolling. You can get good medium tank with good crew, but devs are really generous, if you really like this game, you can play for free and get top tanks. Actually awesome system.

So, early on after the start of the server average tanks fight against the top artillery, and artillery seems powerful in random battles. It's not that powerful when it's top tanks against top artillery.

4 hours to the "largest" tanks is a deliberate lie. You can't buy a tank without the experience, and you can't buy the experience for the real money. I think it's possible to buy a top heavy tank in about 150 hours of gameplay, with a premium account and extra credits for real money.

Also, in several weeks there will be a new match-making system for random battles so most tanks in the team will be about the same level (but top medium tanks (lvl 8) will be in the same battles as top heavies (lvl 10) and top artillery (lvl 6)). It shouldn't matter if you have a "suck" tank. You need to use it in a different way. You don't go toe to toe with heavy tank in your MS-1. If you are moving/behind something tall the SPG can't/have a lot of trouble hitting you. Light tanks, in a non-newbie match, should be a lot harder to hit.

At least that is what I have heard and have seen from playing. I don't know though SPG's destroy in the newbie rooms. I easily get 4-5 kills a round unless my team sucks and get wiped out before I get a glance at many tanks. However, hitting any tank on the move is a gamble and reload is so long. On the flip side they cannot really hit anything while moving either.

I just cant wait when we see first Ferdinand, or other really Heavy tanks, its one of the heaviest tank in WW2 as far I know super slow and mega armor. My experiences from arty they have saved my arse more than Ive died by them. I wouldnt want to play this game otherwise really even light tank if its suppored by good arty can do good job. Its just how you play.

FYI BT-2 can flank really easy due to its incredible speed. Perfect for taking out SPG and defensive tanks as long as you keep moving to avoid getting hit.

My mistake on the calculation of how long it takes to buy your way to the top, my estimate was incorrect, but so is yours. It's actually closer to 38-48 hours. (Depends on success rate.) I can do it even faster by using the multi-match exploit. But I'm not counting that, as it will likely get fixed soon.

I am going to go ahead and disagree with Kaz because, well basically he's wrong. Sure you can use real money to buy good tanks early, and better ammo, but none of those give you skill. And guess what, you're going to have to spend real money to reload that nice ammo, which I doubt is going to be done except by the small percentage of people with ridiculous disposable incomes.
As far as lag spikes, it happen once in awhile, but its rare to see a tank jumping around (Maybe Kaz just has horrible bad luck?) and not nearly as bad as he seems to make it out to be. It hardly makes them invincible.
And another point where he is exaggerating, everyone being arty and TD's after the first tier is because those are the ones who levelled the fastest in the newbie rounds. As of right now, the middle tier is pretty balanced. As far as tank/TD?SPG balance, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it as long as you realize its almost a paper/rock/scissors balance instead of the kind of balance that everything is effective against everything that WoW pvp'ers seem to expect (Not saying you are a WoW player, Kaz, before you get defensive )

Yeah but at least you can now use some money and get the stuff you want. I've never liked grind myself usually its just good excuse to find another game when I feel like it. I like this alot more. Let the other grind but dont force the rest of us to do so. So I'm liking this system really.
I just foresee this is the way of future. Grind/pgoression isnt going away but why the fuck we all need to grind like apes. This is next-gen MMO so to speak it show the way of future.

This is a pvp armored conflict game, not wow were you get perks for rushing to the top. buy your tiger, watch it get it's but handed to it by a swarm of smaller, faster tanks. The game balances light/ heavy/ med to try and even battles.
There is no advantage to buying your way to the top, you're still going to be destroyed in game. As for a grind. if all you want to do is play so you can get the uber tank , yup it would be a grind. but that really isn't what the game is all about. it's about knocking out the other guy, and nothing is better than knocking out the big boy with something much smaller.
you have to remember the turret rotation on the biggest tanks is about 19 degrees a sec as compared to 45 to 50 with the smaller tanks and td's . you will get bypassed and ass shot without smaller support, plus the other side is going to have the same big stuff against you. trying to play in something that slow and cumbersome is a skill set all to it's own. I dare say many will get tired of moving like a snail while the game zips around them.

This in itself is not a bad thing for us fast light tank owners. While the big boys slug it out amongst each other, we lighties zip around the flanks for side and rear shots. Of course, we brew up with only one hit, but it is still hella-fun.

Yeah its totally different game it used to be a few days back. Both sides lose mobility every day. It must be so fun when theres more some really heavy tanks, real head to head action. King Tiger can easily take 5-10 shots, but its slow as hell. More shooting, more arty, bring it on!
I just hope they add weather soon, like raining, snow etc.

1) You will be able to play the game for free just that is gona take longer to get to latest tier. For example to get to last tier with premium account will take you ardoun 3 weeks (maybe less for some hardcore players) and for non premium 6 weeks.
2) The game is in closed beta now, so not all features are published in game
3) If u want to pay for a premium account, ammount or gold, it wont cost you more then 15$ per month, unless u go crazy ...
4) Each class has a role, light tanks can be used for scouting and flanking atttacks even on last tier, medium tanks are used for flanking and support, arties huge dmg support, heavy epic dmg support. It'as team based game, alone u wont be able to do much.

I am having a blast, finally a good mmo this fracking year and not made by koreans or some crappy dumbdowned fantasy crap. Yep! I had my KV technology mostly researched, but finally gave up on it and went back to a T-34; the things are way too slow for my taste (both in movement, turret rotation, and firing the big guns). The most fun I have had so far was with my A-20; once I got it fully upgraded, I was able to survive most battles I fought in.

"PVP without grinding" is a load of BS. You need exp to progress, so you end up grinding for exp and credits to get to at least a decent tank.
To the one saying with premium ammo you can easily pwn others. This is true to a certain degree, that is if you can hit them. A skilled opponent can still use stock ammo and kill you.
Arties are vunerable to lights and some medium tanks (at least i tend to rush with my panzer III and find those SPGs).
That being said the game is really fun, if you like mindless and quick pvp this is the game for you.

You can get a nicely loaded low level tank in a few hours. Every tank has a roll to play. You just have to be good enough to realize that and play that roll. Yes the cash shop will let you progress faster, but who wants to go that fast ? Thats how people get bored. Artillery is only a problem if you do stupid things like stand still in areas that the artillery can reach. Tank Destroyers are a type of tank. There is minor lag problems but show me a game that has none. While its true that you can't hit warpers, they can't hit you either, not much of an exploit. The game is based on historical data so yes, its not "balanced", thank God. There is no "best" tank. I've killed some of the biggest tanks with some of the smallest tanks by being smart. Don't listen to the whiners. Give it a try and pay attention. Great game with even more potential.
Guys I am from Eastern Europe region and now we have open beta for WOT. There are a lot of miffs on this forum.
First of the game is free but with progression and if you want to use better tank with high caliber ammo, you need more money. You can buy premium account (like a standard monthly fee) and each fight you will earn for 50% more money and exp. Also you can buy the gold and convert it to credit, buy premium account for 1/7/30 days or convert exp from your elite tank to free exp. To buy new tank with premium account you don't need a lot of extra efforts, just play in your satisfaction and in a month with 2 hours per day you will have top tanks in a row. We tested all of this things and I can insure you that only donate that you need to use for normal game is premium account for 30 days, gold you will be earn from the clan wars.
Balance in the game is still under adjustment even in open beta, but we had two test servers where we tested new queue, new maps and a lot of other other things, so I can say here will be more smooth level between tanks in the random fight. About artillery, they are not gods, when players will have more experience, the will not be so powerful in your eyes, use mid and light tanks to eliminate enemies artillery. We already had two championships supported by Devs prices . Devs did a really good work to balance tanks for historical plausibility and good gameplay.
What will be in the game except random fights. The will be 3-4 people in groups for random fights, clan wars for territory on global world map, historical events with reconstruction of WWI tanks battles, competitions, SSSR, German, USA, France, England and Japan WWII tanks, every month new maps and more things to come like a air strikes, bunkers etc.
First time I heard about this game, I checked youtube video and didn't like it. I'm not a fan of FPS or simulators...
My friends who were playing it for a couple of weeks made me download and check it. I was really impressed by the gameplay overall and simplicity of the control. Ur success is a combinations of factors: your own skills(maneuvering, targeting) , understanding of the of the tank you control (speed, turret rotation, shot distance, ammo power, ammo type), understanding of the ability of ur enemy(if u r light tank make no sense to try to tackle heavy, or high tier middle tank), and finally functions you have to do as a team member. For example, one of my most favorite tank in the game is PZ III/IV which just 2nd tier medium tank out of 5 total. High speed, enough power for one/two-shot kills of light tanks, and sufficient armor to survive 1 direct shot of the heavy tank is perfect combination for my playing style. I tried heavy tanks(up to Tiger II) that you need to grind for, and in my opinion they don’t worth it, but many people enjoy driving them. My function is killing the light tanks rushing to "light"/uncover my team's artillery and other hidden tanks. When the enemy run out of scouts - I can follow "big guys" to the enemy territory and destroy artillery myself. Considering that each team consist of something around 16 tanks(never really count the number), I'm usually have around 3-5 kills per battle. Each battle is balanced - so your and opponent’s team will have couple of heavy tanks, bunch of middle tanks, artillery, AA tanks, and light ones. Two types of victory: kill em all or capture the base. So it is possible to win even if your team left with 5 tanks, and enemy still has more then 10. Another very important aspect of the game is a crew for every tank. You can level them up, and it won't take you forever to cap them for selected tank. As soon as they capped, your performance will be 150% from the time you just started driving the machine. Tank repair and ammo cost money, so if there is just lame grinder who will try to level up as fast as possible without a proper skill or understanding - they won't be able to support heavy tanks without donations.
I think this game is dedicated to hardcore pvp players who enjoy even/fair battles, where dominates tactics, personal skills, and of course team play.
My biggest concern is a cash shop.... and I'm afraid that at some point we will see crazy blasters, nukes, rockets, or some BS stuff like that will appear and destroy the balance.
If you are PVP player game definitely worth trying. PVE guys will simply have nothing to do there.

I can do it even faster by using the multi-match exploit. But I'm not counting that, as it will likely get fixed soon.
To find an intelligent person in a PUG is not that rare, but to find a PUG made up of "all" intelligent people is one of the rarest phenomenons in the known universe.
I am going to go ahead and disagree with Kaz because, well basically he's wrong. Sure you can use real money to buy good tanks early, and better ammo, but none of those give you skill. And guess what, you're going to have to spend real money to reload that nice ammo, which I doubt is going to be done except by the small percentage of people with ridiculous disposable incomes.
As far as lag spikes, it happen once in awhile, but its rare to see a tank jumping around (Maybe Kaz just has horrible bad luck?) and not nearly as bad as he seems to make it out to be. It hardly makes them invincible.
And another point where he is exaggerating, everyone being arty and TD's after the first tier is because those are the ones who levelled the fastest in the newbie rounds. As of right now, the middle tier is pretty balanced. As far as tank/TD?SPG balance, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it as long as you realize its almost a paper/rock/scissors balance instead of the kind of balance that everything is effective against everything that WoW pvp'ers seem to expect (Not saying you are a WoW player, Kaz, before you get defensive )
But anyway, the game is well worth trying out. One of the better free to play ones.
They dont want balance or paper/rock/scissor unless WW2 was that too! Damage is historically accurated. That what I think anyway they try to be historically accurate as much they can, but add little bit arcane make it more casual and fun than some heavy tank simulator. I'd bet it was MMO symphion interview where they said it and does it really matter if someone get good tank faster than another, theres always been no-life kiddies in every MMO already.

Sad but true. You can already see Tigers and KVs in action after only couple of days...While tier1 battles are fairly balanced, it gets totally insane later-on.
Yeah but at least you can now use some money and get the stuff you want. I've never liked grind myself usually its just good excuse to find another game when I feel like it. I like this alot more. Let the other grind but dont force the rest of us to do so. So I'm liking this system really.
I just foresee this is the way of future. Grind/pgoression isnt going away but why the fuck we all need to grind like apes. This is next-gen MMO so to speak it show the way of future.

This is a pvp armored conflict game, not wow were you get perks for rushing to the top. buy your tiger, watch it get it's but handed to it by a swarm of smaller, faster tanks. The game balances light/ heavy/ med to try and even battles.
There is no advantage to buying your way to the top, you're still going to be destroyed in game. As for a grind. if all you want to do is play so you can get the uber tank , yup it would be a grind. but that really isn't what the game is all about. it's about knocking out the other guy, and nothing is better than knocking out the big boy with something much smaller.
you have to remember the turret rotation on the biggest tanks is about 19 degrees a sec as compared to 45 to 50 with the smaller tanks and td's . you will get bypassed and ass shot without smaller support, plus the other side is going to have the same big stuff against you. trying to play in something that slow and cumbersome is a skill set all to it's own. I dare say many will get tired of moving like a snail while the game zips around them.
it really doesn't matter what you're in, it matters how well you can play it.
As of now the amount of medium and heavy tanks, as compared to lights is probably 2 to1 or higher.
This in itself is not a bad thing for us fast light tank owners. While the big boys slug it out amongst each other, we lighties zip around the flanks for side and rear shots. Of course, we brew up with only one hit, but it is still hella-fun.
Yeah its totally different game it used to be a few days back. Both sides lose mobility every day. It must be so fun when theres more some really heavy tanks, real head to head action. King Tiger can easily take 5-10 shots, but its slow as hell. More shooting, more arty, bring it on!
I just hope they add weather soon, like raining, snow etc.

if suprises me that even on this small but good and simple mmo ppl are clueless. I dont know why i even boder with these horrible forums.
1) You will be able to play the game for free just that is gona take longer to get to latest tier. For example to get to last tier with premium account will take you ardoun 3 weeks (maybe less for some hardcore players) and for non premium 6 weeks.
2) The game is in closed beta now, so not all features are published in game
3) If u want to pay for a premium account, ammount or gold, it wont cost you more then 15$ per month, unless u go crazy ...
4) Each class has a role, light tanks can be used for scouting and flanking atttacks even on last tier, medium tanks are used for flanking and support, arties huge dmg support, heavy epic dmg support. It'as team based game, alone u wont be able to do much.
Most of the posts here made by clueless ppl, please make your own opinion when the open beta is released. I played almost all action mmos in the last 10 years, but this one is the best so far. I am having a blast, finally a good mmo this fracking year and not made by koreans or some crappy dumbdowned fantasy crap. It's actually very fun and action packed, a hybrid between realism and action and with the persistent features is gona be quite fun.

Yep! I had my KV technology mostly researched, but finally gave up on it and went back to a T-34; the things are way too slow for my taste (both in movement, turret rotation, and firing the big guns). The most fun I have had so far was with my A-20; once I got it fully upgraded, I was able to survive most battles I fought in.

"PVP without grinding" is a load of BS. You need exp to progress, so you end up grinding for exp and credits to get to at least a decent tank.
To the one saying with premium ammo you can easily pwn others. This is true to a certain degree, that is if you can hit them. A skilled opponent can still use stock ammo and kill you.
Arties are vunerable to lights and some medium tanks (at least i tend to rush with my panzer III and find those SPGs).
That being said the game is really fun, if you like mindless and quick pvp this is the game for you.

You can get a nicely loaded low level tank in a few hours. Every tank has a roll to play. You just have to be good enough to realize that and play that roll. Yes the cash shop will let you progress faster, but who wants to go that fast ? Thats how people get bored. Artillery is only a problem if you do stupid things like stand still in areas that the artillery can reach. Tank Destroyers are a type of tank. There is minor lag problems but show me a game that has none. While its true that you can't hit warpers, they can't hit you either, not much of an exploit. The game is based on historical data so yes, its not "balanced", thank God. There is no "best" tank. I've killed some of the biggest tanks with some of the smallest tanks by being smart. Don't listen to the whiners. Give it a try and pay attention. Great game with even more potential.
Guys I am from Eastern Europe region and now we have open beta for WOT. There are a lot of miffs on this forum.
First of the game is free but with progression and if you want to use better tank with high caliber ammo, you need more money. You can buy premium account (like a standard monthly fee) and each fight you will earn for 50% more money and exp. Also you can buy the gold and convert it to credit, buy premium account for 1/7/30 days or convert exp from your elite tank to free exp. To buy new tank with premium account you don't need a lot of extra efforts, just play in your satisfaction and in a month with 2 hours per day you will have top tanks in a row. We tested all of this things and I can insure you that only donate that you need to use for normal game is premium account for 30 days, gold you will be earn from the clan wars.
Balance in the game is still under adjustment even in open beta, but we had two test servers where we tested new queue, new maps and a lot of other other things, so I can say here will be more smooth level between tanks in the random fight. About artillery, they are not gods, when players will have more experience, the will not be so powerful in your eyes, use mid and light tanks to eliminate enemies artillery. We already had two championships supported by Devs prices . Devs did a really good work to balance tanks for historical plausibility and good gameplay.
What will be in the game except random fights. The will be 3-4 people in groups for random fights, clan wars for territory on global world map, historical events with reconstruction of WWI tanks battles, competitions, SSSR, German, USA, France, England and Japan WWII tanks, every month new maps and more things to come like a air strikes, bunkers etc.
First time I heard about this game, I checked youtube video and didn't like it. I'm not a fan of FPS or simulators...
My friends who were playing it for a couple of weeks made me download and check it. I was really impressed by the gameplay overall and simplicity of the control. Ur success is a combinations of factors: your own skills(maneuvering, targeting) , understanding of the of the tank you control (speed, turret rotation, shot distance, ammo power, ammo type), understanding of the ability of ur enemy(if u r light tank make no sense to try to tackle heavy, or high tier middle tank), and finally functions you have to do as a team member. For example, one of my most favorite tank in the game is PZ III/IV which just 2nd tier medium tank out of 5 total. High speed, enough power for one/two-shot kills of light tanks, and sufficient armor to survive 1 direct shot of the heavy tank is perfect combination for my playing style. I tried heavy tanks(up to Tiger II) that you need to grind for, and in my opinion they don’t worth it, but many people enjoy driving them. My function is killing the light tanks rushing to "light"/uncover my team's artillery and other hidden tanks. When the enemy run out of scouts - I can follow "big guys" to the enemy territory and destroy artillery myself. Considering that each team consist of something around 16 tanks(never really count the number), I'm usually have around 3-5 kills per battle. Each battle is balanced - so your and opponent’s team will have couple of heavy tanks, bunch of middle tanks, artillery, AA tanks, and light ones. Two types of victory: kill em all or capture the base. So it is possible to win even if your team left with 5 tanks, and enemy still has more then 10. Another very important aspect of the game is a crew for every tank. You can level them up, and it won't take you forever to cap them for selected tank. As soon as they capped, your performance will be 150% from the time you just started driving the machine. Tank repair and ammo cost money, so if there is just lame grinder who will try to level up as fast as possible without a proper skill or understanding - they won't be able to support heavy tanks without donations.
I think this game is dedicated to hardcore pvp players who enjoy even/fair battles, where dominates tactics, personal skills, and of course team play.
My biggest concern is a cash shop.... and I'm afraid that at some point we will see crazy blasters, nukes, rockets, or some BS stuff like that will appear and destroy the balance.
If you are PVP player game definitely worth trying. PVE guys will simply have nothing to do there.
