First thought... Wow slow day Joshua? Obviously there are tons of gamer girls. Most of whom have gamer boyfriends from there local area. Interested gamer girls looking for gamer guys online... thats ALMOST a myth. Not quite hehe.

  • I know a few women who play many genre's of games. Online, they tend to hide the fact that they are female because it often leads to complications around immature players. I think there are many more female players than people realize, but many hide the fact for just that reason.

I think it is better if you just try to find somebody you like and never mind if she is gamer or not gamer. And not only look only in game for somebody to date. And even if she is a girl I think she just want to play the game and not have guys asking her to date all the time.

Why did you cut off your eyes?  I bet they are your best feature.

    Sorry, couldn't help it.

that almost works. i have been in a few relationships now and one "trait" I haven't tried in a girl is gaming. all the girls i've dated are gaming iliterate. its a big part of my life and it would nice to be able to really share that in depth.

Gamer girls are around. My guild in AC1 was led by a girl, and she eventually ended up marrying someone she met ingame. But I agree - they are rare. I don't think confrontation and competition are activities that are (usually) interesting to the female psyche. Despite what the politically correct may say about the subject.

I saw something recently from a psychological study which I thought was interesting. And rang true to my experience.

Males when confronted by a threat tend to fight or flee.

    Females tend to appease.

And I don't think gaming lends itself well to appeasement.

When I played WoW, there were a few women in my guild.  My GM was a woman, her friend was there and she was female as well.  There was at least 2 couples in there too...

Back when I played DAoC both guilds I was part of had a number of women in it.  One guild was owned by a couple that played together.  And a lot of their friends joined the same guild meaning there was quite a few couples there and obviously women.  Same with the second one.  Women in games are not as rare as you seem to make it out to be.  I've met plenty.

I'm pretty sure if you go around screaming "OMG!! Chix!!"  they'll never talk to you and just hide the fact that they're women.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Her name was "Gossip", and the guild was The Eternal Conclave (on Harvestgain). I was 'Zarin' in AC1.

I think the stigma attached to female gaming is more of a problem than any 'lack of interest.'  I love to get out there and kill things.  The more the better.  Especially if explosions are involved.  But I have to hide my gender online because of immature kids who annoy the living bejesus out of me with:  "girls can't play games" or "can I go out w/ yoo?  PLZ?!?!?" or better yet, they all think that upon discovering my gender, that I want to be protected, or am somehow incapable of mobbing.  Eh? EH????   Or that, upon being declared female, my IQ has suddenly dropped 100 points.  *groan*

So I have to hide my gender.  To even get decent armor, I have to play as male anyway.  So don't think its because its uninteresting, its just a horrific hassle to be constantly trolled by pre-pubescent boys who are so gender-normed they think the place of a woman is in front of the stove and nowhere near computers.  This is in no way directed towards many of the fine men I've played with - the ones old enough to appreciate a female gamer, without undermining them.

A friend of mine used to have a very similar problem with tabletop wargaming. She's an incredible modeler and painter, and a very good player, but she stopped the hobby she loved. Every time she went into the gaming stores she'd either get obnoxiously hit on by every male around or looked down upon and dismissed because she's a girl and apparently girls can't paint miniatures and use them to conquer little bits of table. Apparently it's third grade all over again.

Yes, I saw this to its fullest effect in WoW. I remember once I was so pissed at the nonstop harassment going on in town I was just about to tell all those little gerbils in chat to STFU. Then the female(?) character who the comments were being directed at at that particular time started doing a strip emote, or flirting back or something, and I was glad I had kept my mouth shut. So it can go both ways.

But if I was a girl, I sure as hell wouldn't play one in a MMORPG unless I had some overriding desire to experience this kind of thing (vs. wanting to play the game).

I knew someone who moved from California to live with a girl in Michigan he met in WoW. It lasted a few years. Then he moved back to California for a girl he met in Aion.... Oh well it still happens! I just would never move to be with someone I never really met.

On the topic of girls having to put up with stuff. I have heard/read some pretty awkward stuff from boys/men to women playing games that in the same situation as that woman I would have been made very uncomfortable. I remember this kid in vent that you could hear the blush on his face whenever a woman was in vent. Now I am sure I also treat women online differently than men but hopefully I am not that bad.

Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.

Oh man, MMORPG's are worth it, even with the immense evil of annoyance that occurs.  And to be fair, trolls are trolls, and women are easy targets. (meh)  I still get somewhat more respect in an RPG-esque game than an FPS.

    Plus... theres really cool weapons.

And lots of them.  And sometimes explosions.  But not enough.  I wish there were more explosions.  :3

You wanted an explosion.  I get you a picture of one.  Funny how things work out....

The same approaches that make women run away at the bar will also make them run away in the game. LOLimage

Women don't want to feel like they are being stalked. It doesn't matter if it is in person or on game , if you are acting creepy, we will run like we were set on fire. LOLimage

"The internet: where men are men, women are men and children are FBI agents."

I put on my top hat.

I believe every single person that says "there´s no girls in the net T.T" is because the only reason he wants to find them for is to try to hook up with them and form an e-relationship, and while e-romance may happen between friends just like it can happen irl , it´s not like girls go around on the net hoping to find a lovable nerd to e-marry as their main objective.

Also, there´s a lot of freaks in the net and most of the stalkers, pedos and other psychos that plague the internet happen to be male, and thus females are the group that are more likely to become victims of said freaks.

Furthermore, while nowadays (specially between today´s teens ) there´s as much ( if not more ) girls that use the internet and play videogames as there is guys,  up to not too long ago, gaming  was something considered almost male exclusive and something a young, healthy lady would never find herself doing ( from a silly social point of view ofc ) .

So the first generation of female gamers were mostly composed of married women that played to do something with their husbands and generally women over their 30 who found out they had a new hobby that was "forbidden" to them for long, who had healthy lives with most likely a partner already and thus they would not really be "available" or much willing to claim their gender to the four winds, so up to a few years ago it may have been true it was harder to find a female gamer than it is now.

But honestly, just look around you, there´s milions of girls in the internet and a big part of them plays online games too, i am sure that if you just act naturally and simply want to make friends and have fun, regardless of their real gender, you fill find yourself surrounded of female players soon enough.

    Rawr.
