Has The Game Improved???

MysteryBMysteryB Member UncommonPosts: 355

Hey guys, well I used to play Aion, I was there for the Korean Beta than our CB and OB than launch, played for a month and a half than quit, I came back later to play with some friends of mine and loved it again for about a month but after that it turned back into a grind, I see alot of people saying that they have gotten rid of most of the botting which is a huge step up, but have they fixed atleast SOME of the grinding?

Aion was a blast, especially when on teams but the grind killed it for me. I have no problem killing enemies, I think its fun alot of the time, BUT I like to have a point to it. Even if its the same kill X amount of enemies than come back,  that exp jump from quests is fine for me, if the area had 15 kill X amount quests I would do all of them and wouldnt care about the grind because I would have a point to killing them, but when you spend 3 hours killing the same enemy over and over again and you only get a bar or 2 out of it it gets really old. I was thinking about checking in with the game and seeing if they fixed the grind a little, levels 25-40 were hell on earth when I played, can anyone tell me if its improved at all?

The "grind" isn't there to be "fixed". It's subjective and a matter of opinion, it's game design. Sure 1.9 added a lot of quests and increased quest exp, but essentially, it isn't really that much different at higher levels. Some of these quests are repeatables, I don't know if you mind them or not but they send you to kill X amount of Y repeatadly while giving good exp and rewards.

As I posted in another thread: "The infamous grind is really subjective and depends on your mentality (aka the way you play the game). Basing this on comments that I've read around here and other forums, the varying opinions are that the grind:

    -Starts at level 17

    -Starts at level 30

    -Level 35

    -Level 38-40

    -Starts at endgame

    -There is no grind

Of course it goes without saying that there isn't a single right answer, it's simply what you make of it."

If you feel like there's just too much grind to handle, there are 2 things you can do: Move away from the game 'cause this is never going to change, or change your outlook and play the game differently. Don't stress on how many bars per day you can make, who cares? Just play the game and enjoy it, diversify your game play, interact with the community and join a great legion (community-wise, not necessarily progression wise).

P.S: Server merges tomorrow are going to greatly help the low pop servers, so if you're on one of those and decide to give it a try, it will be that much more enjoyable to have people running everywhere again :)

The repeatable quests force you to grind, too. But some friends told me that it's going faster with them, dunno.

With 2.0, we have to grind to 55 as well.. don't think they will change something essential in the game design. Hate it or love it, you have to choose ;)

From what I understand of your perspective of grind, I would say yes the game has improved. There's really no need to endlessly kill mobs anymore. Well, that's not entirely true -- you endlessly kill mobs to collect their parts and turn them in for repeatable quests. The XP needed to level remains unchanged. In my eyes the grind starts at 50. It requires a huge time investment to become competitive in PVP. You are either outgeared and you die or you outgear someone and explode them.

Servers are being merged down to four from the thirteen(?) at launch. Hopefully that will liven the game up a bit.

It's the only game I would currently consider paying a sub for, but that's not saying much.

The server merge sounds cool when are they doing that? I wish more games would do server merges, mainly City of Heroes because most of the servers are dead there.

I went back recently to see if it was still grindy and it pretty much is.  It wouldn't be bad if there were some more original quests in the game but it's pretty much a repeatable quest kinda game.  I managed to play for a week and quit again due to more of the same old thing.

I don't understand why people complain and QQ about grind grind grind.... AION is such a baby game compared to every other game out there... that's the point of MMOs, not instant level please> EVERY MMOs is either repeat quest killing same mobs or questing killing mobs around that area.... L2 was a grind... this game is childish compared to any thing worth putting your time into.   Fix grind... psh.. maybe fix your understanding of what grind is and an MMORPG is how you are suppose to relate to your character and feel a connection to them.. grind... please...

The point of MMO's is to grind? That's news to me. I figured they were for fun. I must be doing it wrong. Just because you experienced more grind in a different game doesn't mean there is no grind in Aion. Some people don't like Korean grind -- in fact most western players don't. I've never seen anyone say, "I want Aion to be easy." People just want to see their hard work pay off. A happy medium between eye-gouging grind and casual play seems reasonable. Fanboy logic dictates that you respond with something along the lines of, "L2P! Go back to WoW!" Guess why Aion is merging servers down from 14 to 4... because everybody GTFO and went back to WoW. Attitudes like yours do not help move the game forward.
