Jagex Games Studios has announced its latest browser-based MMO. Called Stellar Dawn, the game takes place in a sci-fi world and is, according to Jagex, the studio's biggest project to date. Jagex has indicated that much of the game will be free-to-play. Other Jagex titles have cash shops for players wishing to enhance their experiences.
Stellar Dawn is due to be released in early 2011. We'll keep you posted.

I just hope it isn't full of idiots and kids like runescape is.
It'll probably be rubbish but I will still give it a try before really condemning it
I don't usually even look at browser games, but made by RS people, maybe will check it out.
"Never met a pack of humans that were any different. Look at the idiots that get elected every couple of years. You really consider those guys more mature than us? The only difference between us and them is, when they gank some noobs and take their stuff, the noobs actually die." - Madimorga
However this new game comes out to be, doesn't matter. We need more Sci-fi MMOs, for god's sake!
I have to agree with armoredisamu more Scifi MMOs :-)
it's a browser based f2p ... how will this work? simple 2D graphics and round based combat? yawn.
Ever heard of RuneScape... or Java... or Jagex...
pong > RuneScape
Badger...... ah u know how it goes...
Yes, most of us hate runescape, but that's because we moved on and learned from it. Many of the MMO demographic of people in/just out of college played and learned from this game-I learned Merching and RPG mechanics from this game. Jagex made a great starting off point for the new generation of MMO players in their Runescape product, and I expect that, much like Runescape lead people into WoW and others, this Stellar Dawn game may lead players to EvE/DUST and the other lesser known space MMO's.
Another cash shop MMOG...
My gaming blog
Yea i guess everybody is going cash shop nowdays. One thing I think is going to happen folks are going to quit morpgs and go back to single player games, well the smart one anyway.
ill at least try it before passing judgement
While I won't play microtransaction games ... I'm all for more sci-fi themes. I'm so over killing orcs and goblins. If I never saw another fantasy game in my life, I'd be happy.
I think this game is going to be good, I mean runescape sucked at first but i logged on my account yesterday and I was blown away by the improvements they added!
Very excited!
He says other games of theirs have cash shops, I've yet to see one.
They have a F2P/P2P hybrid kind of like an endless free trial (like Age of Conan) but no cash shop.
If I'm wrong please tell me, but I hate to see people smear this game because of false facts in the report.
Runescape doesn't have a cash shop; it has a membership thing, which allows you to access member-specific items and areas and opens up whole new quests, but no cash shop, so this article is wrong in that regard. Membership = access to said items and such. A cash shop is where you use real money to buy items like EXP potions, etc. which Runescape lacks; it does however, have a P2P, which is membership, so no, no cash shop.
Apparently to MMORPG.com editors, the Jagex-published game "War of Legends" is what inspired the "Other Jagex titles have cash shops for players wishing to enhance their experiences" line. Unfortunately, Jagex's biggest game is Runescape, with goes with a P2P/F2P hybrid subscription model and does not yet have any sign of a cash shop.
There's no saying their won't be a cash shop, but the news release indicates they're just going to follow the RS hybrid model.
How professional is Jagex? Let's take a look at their first public foot forward with Mechscape.
"Today is an exciting day here at Jagex Games Studio: we are proud to announce the impending release of Stellar Dawn, our latest MMORPG."
Impending? Something a year away is "impending"? How about "future" or "next"? To say nothing of the ominously negative connotation of the word "impending".
"... A large proportion of the game will ... "
Portion. "Large portion of the game". Sheesh. I thought the British invented the English language?
Next time you send out an initial press release, maybe run it by an English-speaker who has some mastery of the language.
Jagex is an awesome developer, I can't wait for this one!
Hope its as much of a hit and will blow me away as much as Runescape diod at the time of tis release.
