Fallen Earth: State of the Game Letter

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The July issue of the Fallen Earth State of the Game letter has been published on the official forums. Dave Haydysch has a lot to say about what's been and what will be happening including the issue of "silence" on the part of the team. To paraphrase, Haydysch says, "We're working." While the team may not be responding to every post or every email, they are reading and taking note.

Some of the imminent changes to Fallen Earth to be implemented via the patch process are detailed:

  • Color Customization: Basic colors can be crafted and 'rare' colors will be dropped throughout the game. Colors can then be used, at least initially, to customize motorized vehicles. Later on, clothing and gear are candidates for color changes.

  • Minor Respec: Players have been asking for a minor respec option and devs have it in the works. Minor respec injections will be purchased from vendors but Icarus has plans to allow players to craft an improved version of the injections.  The injections are "priced according to level bracket".

  • PvP: With the arrival of the new patch at the end of July, players will be able to flag themselves and participate in PvP anywhere in the game. Flagging is great but be careful: Even on 'unflagging' yourself, you are vulnerable to PvP for a time afterward.

  • Live Events: More are coming so keep your eyes peeled.

  • Improving the New Player ExperienceHaydysh indicated in the letter that the new player experience/tutorial is being given a hard look.  Devs are looking to make the Sector One activities/quests more beneficial to new wastelanders.

Haydisch also spends time talking about things that are on the proverbial table for future implementation: Housing, Sector Four, Auction Houses, and Factions. Milestone patches are set to be released in September and December.

There are a lot of exciting projects that we are working on for Fallen Earth and I am looking forward to being able to share those with you as we draw closer to being ready to reveal them, so keep an eye out! I also want to give a mention to everyone who has sent in a letter to the dev team—we’ve had a blast reading through those (hand-written) notes and we appreciate all the support, feedback and humorous commentary/items you’ve shared! In addition, we’ve enjoyed getting to know members of the community individually through the weekly “Meet the Team” forum feature. Please keep those letters coming! Again, we really appreciate all of your continued support and rest assured that we are hard at work on Fallen Earth. See you in the Wastes!

You can find the letter on the Fallen Earth forums.

This is great news. One of the best MMO's out on the market. My guild just did a re-roll and we are having a blast.

Man I love Fallen Earth, they are really pointing this game in the right direction.  PvP anywhere means I'm  resubbing on this update.

I have enjoyed Fallen Earth and end up re-subing after playing for a couple of months. It does get slow if your into soloing but, whenever I get into a fair size team it is intense. Looking forward to seeing how the PvP flag thing works out.

I think the game would have more subs if it became more of a Sandbox or more of a Theme park earlier in development as opposed to trying to do both, or trying to limit the sandbox possibilities.

My biggest turn off is the interface. Every time I try the game it's interface kills me after about 20 min of play. It's kluncky and unweildy, difficult to use and downright unresponsive sometimes.

Glad to hear some news from FE. As soon as you guys will take away the CS I will be back.

    @Arioc ;

Try to customize the ui. I remember that I also felt it was clunky, but with som tweaks it became better :) I want my ui to be as clean as possible btw.

its still alive? i was in beta, it was not bad but after a while the landscape gets just boring. i never lived in the grand canyon area.. or in a desert like environment..! i need trees, hills, mountains and all this strange stuff. who knows, maybe they choose for their next title minnesota lol.

the patch reminds me to the old SWG. good job.

Did you get far enough in the game to realize the terrain changes?   There's forests in them thar hills .... past Sector One.   :)    And even more diverse terrain has been added higher up.

I stumbled on to the game a little more than 5 months ago, and I absolutely love the game.   Its one of those dark horses out there that is coming into its own.

I help out on the help channel, and constantly you're hearing, "I love this game, I'm already addicted ... why haven't I heard of it before?"   The answer:  They are an Indy game operating on a shoe-string ... they can't advertise like EA or ATARI.

Why?   Because of the TAB mode to go into combat mode?   Its second nature to me now, it just takes some getting used to ... but its gotta be to have the free targeting mode.

My only complaint about the interface is, I which they would let up move the action bars around and split them up.

I played from launch until i got to about Level 21ish. then I found my clan had all 'left' and i ahd the clan vault and LOTS of storage space.

Sadly it meant I was unable to group up etc ingame and eventually started to get bored as I had no idea where to go next

Now we are getting somewhere. Adding PVP flagging is a great move. Once we get to designating an entire zone for end game PVP, with full looting and territory control, then I will be there. Oh and get rid of magic.

They just did that with yesterdays patch!  You can now split up the hotbars !
