In a new blog post here at MMORPG.com, Jon Wood talks about his pride in this site and introduces our users to a new site on the network: Game On Mac. Jon is looking for your thoughts, opinions, ideas and more. Check out his column and head over to Game On Mac.

imageGameOnMac.com covers not only titles for the Mac platform (OSx), but also games put out for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. So, even if you’re a hardcore PC fan, if you’ve ever played a game on Apple’s handheld gaming platform, this site is going to have something for you.

Read the whole column.

Well to start off, this is one of the best gaming sites on the web imo.

As to Apple, never owned one and probably never will.  Their PC's are far too expensive for what they offer and I don't blame developers for not writing game versions for them, even though that they now have switched to intel it is much easier than before.   My son has a Mac and loves it, but uses it for school and not gaming.  I find that Windows 7 has eliminated any reason for me to switch to a Mac.  The PC is where gaming is at, not the Mac.

As to the iphone and ipad, I would not touch either with a 10 foot pole.  I don't want someone else to decide what content I see and use.  I am enjoying this debacle with the new iphone 4,  clearly Apple is getting too full of itself to think they can lie to the general public and get away with it.

So good luck with your new site, but I won't be reading nor posting on it.

Good luck with the new site but ... Macs suck.

I'm glad for this as I'm an avid mac user. However, because fewer and fewer games were coming out for Mac I had to buy a PC.

As games come out for Mac then I will buy them for my mac.

I like the site layout, seems better than the one here :P

I got as far as the "GameOnMac" part and decided that no, it has nothing that appeals to me. I have zero interest in gaming with overpriced nerd-bling and control-freak computing. As Ozmodan so eloquently put it, I don't need anyone deciding what I can and can't do and see on my devices. The first 'anti-Apple' strike in my little black ratings book was years ago,  when I installed iTunes, and then later opened a .jpg file, and found that without asking, it had changed my file association to some proprietary picture viewer. It got uninstalled immediately. Then recently I had a Mac user borrow a thumbdrive to give me a file for a project we were working on together. When I got the thumb drive back, it  seems it had been infested by a bunch of new, hidden folders and files. All because he copied one single .doc file? Now I have a (hand-me-down) Touch simple because I needed a PDA to run a drug-lookup application so I don't have to depend on carrying one more fat text book around to classes and clinicals. I hate it. There is so much you can't change or customize. As for an iPad? If someone gave me one, I'd simply sell it and buy a small netbook. I like this site. It has interesting articles, and information on the game I play. Sorry, no interest in GameOnMac.com.

Let me start by saying the layout is a bit messy, otherwise I think the site seems great!

  • NovaKayneNovaKayne Member Posts: 743

The site tittle reminds me of that video that went around a few years ago at the beginning of the Mac vs PC commercials.

I have a mac and I get to play GAME.  I mean who needs all of the different choices for games the PC has.  I can just play GAME and have fun with it.  It is the best MAC GAME out there.

Say hello, To the things you've left behind. They are more a part of your life now that you can't touch them.

More gaming platforms = more gamers. That part's great. Welcome, MacGeeks! But there's no way I'll ever pony up the kind of cash it takes to own one of the proprietary-only monstrosities.

I can (and do) slap together perfectly acceptable PC-platform gaming rigs on nickle-and-dime budgets all the time. And if one part gets borked I just throw in an easy to find replacement for pennies-on-the-dollar. While I spent 15 years using Mac for my career gigs, wild horses couldn't force me take one for my home or gaming needs.

The price for entry is flat out ridiculous, let alone the proprietary issues. Now take into account the repair, maintenance and constant upgrades inherent in dedicated PC-gaming... it spells instant death to even those who WANT to take the plunge into Mac gaming.

In the depths of Great Depression II, with no end in sight, Mac-gaming is just a unique and unexpected blip on the desktop gamer radar. The costs of entry and upgrades alone will kill the genre amongst all but the most financially-endowed of geekdom. And gamers are hardly the most financially-secure demographic. I'm sure Mac gaming will find converts, but it will be a pithy percentage of the population at large.

I had a bit of a neutral opinion of MacOS until I tried it, and then didn't really like it.  Even with a Hackintosh it still wasn't worth using for gaming of any sort when you lose access to Direct X.

Then after living through two iPhones I decided I won't ever buy an Apple product again, ever.

Good luck to those on macs who try to game... but there's a reason why Boot Camp is standard in MacOS X.

The homepage design is really cluttered, and like most sites, ignores widescreen displays in favor of huge gutters that would have reduced the cluttery feeling.

That said, I applaud anyone brave enough to have a site that focuses on niche gaming, which is pretty much what any gaming on Apple or Linux ends up being.

On an aside: Things that might want to be added to the site just to increase value is an easy guide to running Windows games without needing to buy (Hush, pirates. Yar.) Windows.

  • SynthetickSynthetick Member Posts: 977

I seen the site originally linked at the top of MMORPG.com a few months back, and checked it out. There were no content updates and the forums were pretty dead so today is the first time I've checked the site out since then.

A lot more content now, forums are still pretty dead, but the community will build itself up with time. However, the actual layout of the main page is too cluttered. There are far too many columns in the content area of the page, the "Latest Screens" column should be completely removed and located elsewhere. The logo is kind of generic, but that's pretty much whatever.

All in all, I think the site has started coming together quite nicely. Looking forward to being part of the community as an avid Mac user. I just don't care for their mobile products; I'll stay with my Droid :)

Most people who spend the money on a Mac are usually aware of their options as far as running Windows or running Windows programs. If you don't want to buy a copy of Windows and run Boot Camp, Crossover and Para are both pretty well known. I hope they don't stray to "using a Mac" and keep it simply "Mac Gaming."

Site looks nice, but I felt like I jumped back 15 years when I saw the games showcased on the front page. XD

As a now 4 year Mac user I'll be sure to swing by the site to check it out.  I for one am not a hater either way as I came from the PC side of things.  So I don't say "Windows Sucks" or "Mac Blow" or anything stupid like that.  A good machine is a good machine period.  A good OS is a good OS period.

Current Game: Asssasins Creed 2(PS3, Gamer Tag: Happy_Hubby)
Current MMO: World of Warcraft and World of Tanks
Former Subscribed MMO: Star Trek Online, Aion, WoW, Guild Wars, Eve Online, DAoC, City of Heroes, Shattered Galaxy, 10six.
    Tried: Too many to list

Wow, look at the mac hater. Yikes!  I know how to build PC's and have some pretty good resources for getting decent prices. That said, dollar for dollar, you couldn't buy a PC with a Mac's power, without spending as much money.

Most PC's have only 1 cpu (dual or quad core, but only ONE chip)

Mac tower's all have 2 CPUs so you can get two quad core i7's in one machine.

Most PC mother boards support up to 4 ram chips (you can find ones with 6)

Mac Tower's all have 8 ram slots

Most PC's have one or 2 PCIx 16x slots.

    Mac towers have 4

Most PC's have sata/raid now, but you have to use 4 screws per drive and have to unscrew rescrew every time.

Mac towers have HD caddies that you can pull out and replace the sata HD's without that hastle.

Most PC's require you to buy some kind of extra audio card to get decent audio.

Mac towers have optical audio, line in and sterio plug out built in. Optical audio support the highest def audio.

Windows machines require expensive OS purchases every time windows puts out a new version.

Mac OS costs $30 for the full version, and is a stable Linux/Unix base OS.

Most PC apps are 32 bit, despite 64 bit chips and OS.

Apple has been 64 bit for a long time, so their apps run in native 64bit.

All new Macs can also run Windows in a dual boot setup. The mac Boot Camp program makes this an almost entirely painless thing to do.  I run win7 pro and Mac OSX on my Mac.  I run all my PC apps and games I've purchased over the years...and then dual boot to my mac to run my audio/graphics production software.  For me, its a win-win to own a mac. I'll never buy just a PC again.

All that said, I liked the site.  :D

This makes me laugh.  The hidden files? You see. Mac plays nice. Its running another OS. You plug in a thumb drive with a file format from a different OS, and the mac reads it!  It doesn't need to show the hidden files from Windoze, cause its smart.  But in order for your friend to copy a file to it, MAC OS had to create those little hidden files.

Now back in the Windoze machine, they don't play nice. Rather than recognizing that those are Unix/mac files (and ignore them) it shows them to you, making your life rather annoying.  Don't complain to Apple about it.  Complain to MS.

I agree with the cluttered aspect, I think if you took the new screens sections and moved it down, and made the latest news a little shorter (but wider) and maybe had the new screenshots section two wide instead of 1 it would remove some of the visual clutter.

    just a thought.

I think the site is fine.  A little bit on the side of information over-load but I know your target demo likes that kind of design.

What I find funny is ... you look at the games they show there.   It reminds me why I went PC.   I used to be a huge Apple guy, but reality finally set in.   I see it hasn't changed.
