What do ppl see in upcoming mmorpgs

Why are Aika and Divine souls so popular? I've looked them up, but I can't seem to find something that would make thems superior games.

Also I can't find much info on Forsaken World, but everyone thinks its the next WoW or something.

On the other hand, i've looked on mmosite and massively and Zentia seems to have many innovative (or at least next gen) features.

The other two games I've looked at are HoTK and Tales of Fantasy, but I can't find anything innovative about either of them: Tales of Fantasy has a system w/ which you can improve your character, but it seems limited.

It seems to me that Zentia is the best game currently in CB, any idea of other promising CB games?

People get excited about every new thing coming out because everything to date has been a dissapointment.

I don't see any real game innovation in anything coming up.

Face it FFXIV, Guild Wars 2, SWTOR.. Something new to do the same crap in.

How developers make their MONEY is going to be the next big boom in MMORPGs (well even content for traditional console gaming really if you think about it).

I see in the future a number of ways you're going to have to pay to gain access to content. Then when one seemingly comes close to matching the success created by WoW. They'll use it.

AND ONLY UNTIL THAT WATERSHED MOMENT IS MET: Shall we see something unique come from a company that realizes content matters.

EDIT: On a more optimistic note I think CCP will do something great with the White Wolf liscense. I'm not a big vampire / werewolf fan but I always wanted to see what that company could do with an established game IP. Which again I usually don't like, (or well hated seeing once Age of Conan completely RUINED one of my favorite fictional worlds), but I have faith they can do something different.

In general developers are now designing for more mass market casual player friendly mmorpg's that don't cost a fortune to produce.

There are games that offer a change from the usual, if you would like to try some great ship combat in an Age of Sail mmo try Potbs.

I was hoping CCP would do something good too, but then they changed their focus on the female goth girl demographic. Also remembered EvE isn't really a well made game.

Well the only specific thing I can comment on is why Aika is popular.

It's quite a fun game. The combat is fluid as hell, the classes are all pretty fun. The quest system works very well (and is pretty entertaining. First MMO ever to have dialogue worth reading).

Prans are the most adorable things you will EVER see.

Plus it has some pretty cool PvP systems in place.

So it's popular for a reason.

Why try and state that EVE isn't a well made game like it was some sort of fact? I can see where it's not for everyone easily, I don't play it. But I'm not self-absorbed enough to avoid being honest; "EVE's a well made sandbox MMO with a lot of innovative ideas, but I never could find my niche in it." It's not a hard thing to do.

While I can't get into the combat style in EvE, I'd have to say it's one of the best "sandbox" games...if not the only real major one out now.  If they could take some of the basic ideas behind that game and put it in a land based design of some sorts it would probably be gold.  If not gold, it would have just as strong of a niche market as the current EvE.  I've tried and tried to get my friends to come play EvE with me every couple months when I re-sub but none of them will simply because of the combat mechanic and how your move around in the game.

People don't need innovation or depth to be excited. Just look at WoW. It's the only MMO I can think of that had no innovative or even new game mechanics, but people play it all the same, despite gameplay wise, it being behind the rest of the market by like 7 years.

I look for aim based games with lots of other activities available outside combat crafting and questing (aka minigames and events)

i agree eve is A great game. But then again I only played it for 10 min. then deleated it =P

lets face it all games that are going to be released this year will suck. But then again i am sure a few of them will have loyal players, well until the next big thing comes out.

Lol. I'd rather make a spreadsheet than play Eve.

BTW, back to topic. Aika is sort of ok but i left it when my character got bugged just for alt+f4 'ing the game.

I've got beta key for zentia. Maybe its time to give it a try.

The only upcoming games I have any even vague hopes for are still so far off that they are very nebulous. Nothing announced that is coming out in the rest of 2010 or 2011 appears to hold even the slightest interest for me. I may play some of them if they have trials/demos etc just to be sure, but I am not buying any of them unseen.

Add that to my dislike/burnout with everything out now and I am just planning a long break from MMORPGs; spending my time on (mostly older) single player and offline games.

I have been a long time player of MMOG's,  One who so happens to have formed his own game development company. I'm doing some viral marketing now on our new "untitled MMO" And surfing game site's forums to see what players are truly looking for in their next MMO. So I will ask the question here...

My question is not about what type of  MMO you enjoy, but more along the lines of, what make's you keep logging back in to some of your favorite online game's?

For me it was the mix of PVP/PVE content. And, I loved logging on and having something to do consistently I.E crafting or PVP if my guildies havent got home and got on.

For our MMO, We want all player created content. Loot drops are relevant to the profession's that need the materials I.E a ranger class needs meat/hides/bone for camp's.

Also..We want our game to have a learning curve. What I mean by that is..Can't just jump in and have instant armor and weapon's! We want you fully nude and without any starting gear. You have to "learn" how to survive. It's not easy but as the character grow's,your ability to survive starts to pay off. we also have been toying with what we call an "genealogical" system, that allows players who marry in the game to have children. Sex is also a big part of our game since to make children outside of a lab you have to copulate. These "offspring'" you create can be trained to guard your home or maybe possibly replace you if you wish to retire your toon and convert him to an NPC. the system is still in the planning stages, so bear with me if information is kind of vague.

The reason for the nudity at the start is your a bioengineered new human species who has partial alien DNA to replace the missing human DNA. But we wont have any thing instanced and possibly if any instance is going to happen it will allow players to join the boss faction and kill his teammates. all of this is in the planning stages right now!

As to my question above, I would love to see some reply's or suggestion before we start production.
