Never mind about the gameplay. I'm taking about the virtual landscape. Mountains, streams, forests, oceans. How they were drawn up and presented.
For me, my favorites have been original EQ (despite its limited graphics) and World of Warcraft (despite its limited graphics). There were a lot of really attractive, interesting and well thought out areas in both games. I also enjoyed a lot of the landscapes in SWG. Those are probably my top 3. Guild Wars made a good impression on me too, visually.
Do you have some favorites?
EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

I agree with WOW and SWG. My third would have to be DAOC. I am a big norse mythology fan and love the look and feel of Midgard. The other two realms are really nice also.
Currently Playing: DAOC Uthgard
Previously Played: UO, DAOC, Shadowbane, AC2, SWG, Horizons, COX, WOW, EQ2, LOTRO, AOC, WAR, Vanguard, Rift, SWTOR, ESO, GW2.
I'd say Lord of the Rings ranks up there alongside Vanguard.
WoW gets an honourable mention but i really disliked how the zones transitioned (always bland or contrasting textures/environments) also the mountains as zone borders pissed me off to no end.
SWG gets an honourable mention too for being the only game with half decent terrain but overall a somewhat bland environment (though it was an old game).
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
I think EQOA has had the best lanscaping of the couple MMO's I've played. I also agree with SWG, but EQOA topped it for me because it was all seemless instead of all the environments broken up onto different worlds.
My choices are Lord of The Rings, just for it's beauty and seamless transitions. WoW for it's "How the hell do I get there?" areas and Everquest and Everquest 2 for the whole air of mystery thing they have in there respective game worlds.
Wow and Lotro for me, some areas in those games are simply awe inspiring.
Back in the Day AO had some really cool sites
AOC is pretty nice too
I would say AOC is one of my favorites. It is remarkable if you have the settings maxed out.
I don't see what people are talking about with SWG, but maybe I always played at the default graphics, so it looked crappy to me.
AOC and Aion.
I think SWG had the most intriguing game world. I used to spend a lot of time just exploring all the worlds.
I really enjoyed Everquest's environments back in the day. I believe it's world had the best lore and really unique zones and for the most part i still do.
The original Everquest without a doubt.
Don't think a single mmo has ever even come close to how massive that game is at this point, and it's still expanding from what I hear.
Not to mention you had freedom to run anywhere you wanted in a zone, literally nothing wasn't accessible.
Nothing comes close :V
Asheron's Call for me, personally. Sure it hasn't aged well at all graphically, but with the wide open plains, large impassable mountains, a maze of seemingly never-ending swamps and marshes filled to the brim with creatures who wanted to rip your face off...
It was an actual world, with a ton of sights to see and a lot of exploration. I played for 4 years, very often just running in a random direction and would constantly find new places, neat scenery, rare monsters, or hidden areas. Sure, after the game progressed someone could just look things up in an online database, but originally the game was a vast mystery with so much to take in. And with consistent monthly updates, content was always rolling in.
I miss being a part of an actual world, with no invisible walls (well, except for deep water) and no instancing. That's partly why I play Eve, though the lack of exploration and sci-fi theme are far from ideal for me. That and character freedom.
I really enjoyed the Aion landscape and can say it intrigued me greatly. WoW did pretty close to the same at release too. I thought Aion's visual appearance of the land was absolutely captivating.
Dark Age of Camelot. It looked nice, and it just felt right. Hard to explain. They nailed it though.
A couple worth mentioning;
SWG - because roaming places that I fell in love with during the movies still sticks with me like an STD.
FFXI - because of the art styles and "love" put into every inch of every zone.
Wurm - because every inch of it is worth exploring and building on, tons of cool niches to claim as one's own.

Now Playing: Skyrim, Wurm Online, Tropico 4
Waiting On: GW2, TSW, Archeage, The Rapture
Vanguard and Age of Conan, following LoTRO. All 3 have amazing landscapes
I liked the landscapes in GW and I think Aion has some amazing scenaries. I also liked the nightelves side in wow.
Aion because it looked stunning and it got you really immersed in the land and story, even though the gameplay let it down. WoW because I could just get on my mount and run forever through zone after zone after zone with no loading screen. I didnt mind the cartoony graphics I actually like them. I cant wait for Cata so I can fly over everything!
Ryzom - Atys is a lavish and above all LIVING world.
Final Fantasy XI. Not just for how it looks (which is gorgeous) but for how it sounds.
Anybody here objective and names a gameworld thats not there favorite:P
Im and if most notice im sandbox fan and playing mostly lately darkfall all tho i love AGON gameworld in Darkfall, i was most impressed with feralas-ungaro crator and wintersprings in WoW only played first 4 months.
Downside about wow was no weather system and no movement plants trees but design was very nice.
Ryzom also looked nice.
I remember Asherons call i was amazed but somehow becouse of later gameworlds looks so much better i remember a bit primitive looking gameworld now from my ac days.
These are my favorite.
1.Yssam continent, Agon-Darkfall <==Jungle landscape.
2.Feralas-WoW <==Jungle landscape kind off also big forest landscape.
3.Omnishan, Dereth-Asherons call 2 <==Jungle landscape.
As you can see im bit hooked on jungle landscapes hehe
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....
In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.
Dark Age of Camelot. You get slapped by a heapin' helpin' of British, Irish, and Norse mythology and culture... all in one game. And they fight each other! What could be more fun than that? The world felt realistically medieval and detailed, and it was loads of fun fighting for a land that you could picture and relate to.
In second place I'd say LotRO. It offers a similar level of world immersion and attention to detail that DAoC does, in my opinion.
