Returning player can't create character due to inactive button, help!

in Dark Age of Camelot

win7 64 bit

two 9600 GTs in SLi

4 gigs ram

For w/e reason the create button to create a character doesn't highlight like the other buttons when I mouse over it.  All I see on the character creation screen is a background, buttons on the bottom, empty character slots on the right.  I click create, nothing happens.  Exit button works so does options.

One more oddity, it takes too long to switch from the realm screen to the character creation screen after choosing a realm, way too long.

    I'm finally in game but the text is german.  The npcs speak german, the quests are in german.  The voice over during the tutorial is english, wtf??

    I chose stonehenge.  This was not labled as a foreign server / overseas server / non english server, etc.  I'll choose excalibur and see what happens.

    I've been away from daoc a long time.  Why are many servers labeled as ywain?  I think thats what I saw.

    Right lil fella you probably logged into the german server. There are 10 ywains which are 10 instances of the same server meaning you could have 1 side on ywain1 and another on ywain7 it doesnt matter. Inside the game you can switch to any of the servers if you need to so all it is is a number of the same ticket in the same store (as an example).

    Most people are playing on Ywain I would get there asap its where all the action is.  The reason why there are 10 ywains is because they were once each seperate servers.  Excaliber is a copy of an old eu server.  Most if not all EU players have moved to Ywain and have merged into the US guild structures.

    Ywain is ----> that way have fun, you will probably see people running around now ;).
