Haven't had a chance to look through all the classes yet and kinda get a feel for them. But I played a thaum forever in my favourite mmo legends of kesmai. So thats probablly what im going to be choosing first, the lancer also sounds cool.
Tough call. I keep jumping between marauder, lancer, and conjurer; they all seem right up my ally in different ways. I think right now I'm leaning toward marauder, though
I'll probably start with Gladiator for when I'm playing with my friends, and work on Archer or one of the Mage classes when I'm just playing by myself. Afterall, we're capable of working on every profession, aren't we? I'm sure I'll play all of them to max skill (or however they're capping it) at some point or another.
I really can't decide right now, I probably won't know until I actually get in the character creation process at launch. I picked Archer as of right now, still not sure though.
Lancer sounds so fun to play, just going over the weapon skills it really put me in my mind set of what I was going to play. Marauder also has some interest of mine, but most likely will be the keeper of the Polearm.
Why leave out those of us playing disciples of the hand/land?
Well by now you should have figured out there is another poll for that secondly those are more of proffesions sure you can main it and do your thing but its not the same as dom and dow.

I am right there with you. I loved my Warrior in FFXI when he used the Great Axe, I loved Dragoon with the pole arm, and of course I love being a magic user in FFXI so these 3 I will start with as well as thaumaturge and archer.
Originally posted by mainvein33 Hmmm not many archers out there. Bad reviews so far or conjurer is looking better for range? I'd like to know
Well, for me I an hesitant about archer due to how expensive playing a ranger in FFXI was. If the economy in FFXIV is better than FFXI than hopefully the expensive class issue will be gone. Guess we will have to wait and see. Oh and the small fact, we still don't have a lot of specific info on every class yet.
Are all the classes even out yet? Poll will be a little skewed.
I'm really hoping they have more classes coming out at release.. The ones they have right now are a little luke warm to me... after like 10 years of these games I'm kind of getting tired of warriors archers and mages... I want some interesting classes (HoX in AoC for example?) I also want some evil classes... dark knights and necromancers yadda yadda.
Does anyone know what the class lay out will be? Specializations? Advanced classes? (like FFT)
Pugilist for melee. Always liked monk and seeing as there is not a samurai in 14, pugilist will be my starting melee. Not many people choosing pugilist.
My main class will most likely be Thaumaturge. Enfeebling and health sac will be fun stuff.

Not anounced yet but some people have said to have found hidden classes do a youtube search. IMHO give up on the I rather not play x or y I have seen it too much. the reason you keep seeing it is that those are base archetypes and you cna help but have in fantasy mmo. Break from that as your core and likely youll fid yourseilf outside fantasy. Almost all fantasy mmos start with the same basic classes tweaked the advantage is here Final Fantasy wont hold you to one job and will mostlikely have specialized classes or some sort of skill bleed effect. Either way this is like the last series to worry about classes in either there will be a butt load or the skills will blend to the point that u can do it all. One other thing looking at the beta (im not in it ><) videos there seems to be a stat points system which might help.

Oh I've seen the hidden classes.. but if they make release who knows?
Seeing the same classes in every game gets boring.... your comment about expecting something out of the norm is likely out of fantasy just shows that currently this is a weak genre with unimaginative people at the helm. I actually liked Allods... but that game seems to be dead.

Really I agree with you but as far as mmos go fantasy is bread and butter in the long run we are all playing D&D with better equipment. As far as the unimaginitive people um well yeah they kinda are but mostly we take all the blame and they do kinda point the finger at us the player from time to time. See you cna break the arhetypes to a degree in just about any mmo BUt and its a big one once PvP got introduced all over the place they all fear ****ing up the balance and sticking to basic archetypes makes that simple add in the fact its got win all over it as a formula cause it always works (classes that is not lore and gameplay) and they have no incentive to come up with better. Sigh that why I stopped even hoping out of fantasy for more than the norm to start with.

I hope special classes make it in the game sooner than later, like puppetmaster, gambler and dancer .
