End of Nations is an MMORTS currently in development at Petroglyph Games. Co-Founder & Chief Creative Director Joe Bostick kicks off the inaugural End of Nations developer diary here at MMORPG.com with an examination of the defining characteristics of an MMORTS. The bell has rung and class has begun. Don't miss MMORTS 101.
The definitive MMORTS game has yet to see the light of day, but not for lack effort among some very talented game developers. We understand that MMO players have some pretty high standards when it comes to the MMO experience, so we’ve looked hard at what’s been done right, and not-so-right, within this particular genre to create the game MMO and RTS fans have been craving for so long.
Check out MMORTS 101: End of Nations overview.

Created by the old westwood team members who brought us C&C Red Alert, before EA bought and dissolved them.
Jesus jumped up christ I can't wait!

gona have to play this one; love the RTS genere and there just hasn't been a reall RTS mmo or a real MMO rts how ever you prefer to look at it; they are always lacking in key parts of one of the 2 genre and it will be intresting to see if they manage it.
I think my only concern is that I for one like turtle play i.e. build a huge honk'n base that slowly and unstopably envelops and consumes. Now I cant see how thats going to be done in an MMO world (well I have some concepts but not in this one from what I have seen), seems more like a smaller element of units cooping against a supperior foe but fortress building is somthing I love in RTS games and here as of late has been a bit lacking in the genre over all
Lords of the Dead (LotD) has an RTS fanbase, and we've wanted to expand operations to something other than a traditional MMORPG. So far everything looks good, and we'll be keeping an eye on this game.

From what I have seen you don't build structures like normal RTSs. You simply command a team of tanks and go on missions to blow stuff up, complete quests, and get loot. It seems more like an action mmorpg with a team instead of one character. My main worry is that nothing anyone does will effect the war. I really hope there is territory control and a real meaninful conflict between players.
Always good to see a new concept hitting the MMO scene. But the balance between PvE and PvP won’t be easy, they seemed to have dumbed down the impact of player skill as well.
Hm sounds like PvE is the main focus. Pity as the game sounds pretty good otherwise.
Also I dont think the game will be very popular if it is PvE focused. Most RTS games tend to be more PvP focused than RPGs.

Doubtful. Very few MMOG has meaningful PvP conflict. Basically Eve and Darkfall are the only ones that are even remotely known.

Trion Worlds has 3 games in development. And have 3 different studio locations. Wonder if the work is filtered over the 3 or each studio does a different game. Probably filtered
Be interested to see how this goes. Only reason I'm not much of a fan of PvP in RTS is that it tends to be more of a click-fest contest then an actual test of strategy. On the other hand, I love turn-based PBEM strategy games. If the pacing is slow enough I could be interested though....
That's the real test of an RTS for me....if it's all about how quickly you can click around the map to make things happen...then it's not for me. If the game actual gives you a few minutes to sit back and think about your moves and strategy, that's key for me.
I think his point is that RTS games are usually PVP and the scenarios and story isn't really that big of deal usually.
waiting for some one still to make a 3d Dota type MMO. League of Ledgends is close, haven't played it thought just watched some gameplay.
on a side note shattered galaxy was a fun mmorts
die.
Starcraft 2 has no subscription so i don't see why i should play this over sc2.
I agree, that its too bad the focus is on this team of tanks and not a one character game. For me, a one character game with this theme would be more interesting. But each to his/her own.
Is this true? I was a big fan of Westwood studios and was reaally pissed when EA bought them out.
Definitely looking forward to this.
I do not see this genre flying in a subscription model... there are too many great RTS games out that do not require a sub to play.
