Figure ill toss multiple polls out and get a current tally
Straight from Wikipedia:
Hyur (?????, Hy?ran?): A race that is more or less human. They are divided into the Midlanders and the Highlanders. The Midlanders place a heavy emphasis on education, and are generally considered to be the most cultured people of the world. Physically larger and bulkier than their Midlander cousins, the Highlanders once governed the grand city-state of Ala Mhigo, which was invaded and razed by the Garlean Empire. With their homeland destroyed and their numbers decimated, the Highlanders now eke out their existence as mercenaries. While the Midlander clan offers both sexes as playable characters, it seems that only males of the Highlander clan will be playable.
Elezen (????, Erezen?): An elf-like race and the original inhabitants of Eorzea. They are divided into the Wildwood and the Duskwight Elezen. The Wildwood live in the forests and possess a keen sense of sight - a contributing factor in their unparalleled expertise as archers. The Duskwight are a reclusive clan who dwell in caves and caverns, which has given them a heightened sense of hearing. The two clans seem to dislike each other immensely.
Lalafell (?????, Raraferu?): Physically diminutive humanoids of high agility and intelligence from the southern regions. They are divided into the Plainsfolk and the Dunesfolk. The Plainsfolk are a very earthy clan who thrive on the prairies. The Dunesfolk literally live on the backs of enormous beasts of burden and are known for wearing gemstones in their foreheads that signify their zodiacal signs.
Roegadyn (?????, Rugadin?): A physically large and muscular race who hail from the northern regions. They are divided into the Sea Wolves and the Hellsguard. The Sea Wolves were once a band of fearsome pirates, but have since largely abandoned that lifestyle; presently they are normally employed as sailors or naval mercenaries. The Hellsguard dwell in a volcanic region and are said to be masters of the magical arts. It seems that only males of this race will be playable.
Miqo'te (????, Mikotte?): Cat-like humanoids who are divided into two religious sects: the Seekers of the Sun, who are dedicated to the sun goddess Azeyma the Warden, and the nocturnal Keepers of the Moon, who are dedicated to the moon goddess Menphina the Lover. It seems that only females of this race will be playable.

Would def play a Miqo'te if they could be male, though.

The real reason is that they aren't humans (I am one, why RP as one?), they aren't elves (got sick of them years ago), and they're not huge... plus I like their ears... I may end up breaking down and making one anyways; I suppose my whole "I'm not this, therefore I shouldn't RP as it" argument could go for gender, too *shrug*
I am just happy that on the RP servers you will be able to see the catgirl vampires in advance.
I see more people RPing vampires with the cave dwelling elf people myself, but maybe that's just me
Was it officialy confirmed anywhere that there will be RP servers?

Anyone who doesn't pick Roegadyn will regret it in the future.
Voted Dunesfolk but I'm actually torn between that and Hellsguard. I'm just unsure of if I'd get bored of the novelty of looking like a demon, hehe.
How 'bout Hulk?
The hulk wasn't maroon, nor did he have ape-like features.
I guess why I am trying to say here is "how dare you bring the hulk into this?!".

Hehe fortunately even with green skin they don't look that much like the Hulk. :P
I've been considering inventing a Hellsguard Lalafell though... red eyes, red hair, they look like demon children and it fits well with the Dunesfolk's natural evil-eye look.

I will be Mithra again, because I love playing Ranged classes. It will be a major surprise if they've made a different race queen of the dexterity stat.

Nope cant get any cooler than that, and these guys are based on the Galka my favorite race!
Dang Duskwight Elezen got worse numbers then the red galkas um I mean hellguards the worlds gonna be flooded with munchkins and highlanders all named MacLeod in the ls "There can be only ONE" (copyrighted)

Tbh, I can hardly understand how come everybody don't want to play them considering how kickass the sailor guy (ship captaion?) looked in the benchmark demo. I watched it a couple of times only to see that guy again.
Now, if you didn't yet, try running the Roegadyn benchmark, see how cool looking the guy is in his chain armor? Imagine that piece of meat sitting in a tavern, drinking ale after smashing some flying jellyfish. If he still isn't the avatar of your dreams, something is definately wrong
P.S. I just bought FFXI to waste some time before FFXIV is out and am playing a galka warrior in it, and I totally agree, they are the coolest race in there as well

tbh its all opinion in the end and some still feel sour about galka stats in ffxi either way if you make it cute tiny and/or female you just got most of the pop.
Considering I choose a 'class' and only select the race with the best stats for that, and they haven't published any stats for any race, I don't know yet which race I'll be. I know I'll play a caster, so whatever's best for casters.

agreed, its hard deciding if it suddenly depends on what race is better at what, especially since your supposed to be able to play as all classes, i didnt know there were penalties O.o so people will only want you if you match what the specific class of your race is, i picked the duskwight elezen (think thats how its spelled) miq'ote would be awesome but yeah O_o no girl parts on me so i'll prob have to stick with whatever male characters i can go for
