Best Siege Gameplay?

sfwtboysfwtboy Member Posts: 217

Huge Guild vs. Guild siege combat is one of my favorite things about MMOs and I have found it in many games both F2P and P2P. I personally would just like to know which of these games you guys think have the best systems in place and an active community using them. Personally I have to say that Darkfall has been the best I've ever seen, as I really felt like part of an army while playing it. However most games can't handle 1000 vs. 1000. I have found good systems in F2P titles such as RoM (though it is still buggy) and Perfect World. What do you guys think?

Well i doubt you would like it but EvE has siege gameplay.

You can make your own stations and outposts and funish them with all kinds of defensive and offensive systems.

Also in eve you can have a lot of people on either side typically a few thousand either side in the more valuable sites.

Of course lag is a problem but if you inform the devs that ou are planning such an attact they will divert resources so that lag is minimal.

Another great example of Moore's Law. Give people access to that much space (developers and users alike) and they'll find uses for it that you can never imagine. "640K ought to be enough for anybody" - Bill Gates 1981

I actully have a some game time in Eve right now. The problem is I have no idea what I am doing and it seems like it would take me a year to figure the game out!

Planetside used to have far and away the most epic large-scale battles of any game.  I think in terms of frequency of actual close, epic fights it has no peer.

Games like DF struggle to get the same numbers, but all the "sieges" I took part in were a bunch of standing around with no action.  Not very fun.

EVE beats Planetside in terms of the scale of fights, but again: in my experience most "wars" in EVE involved excessive AFKing inside Stations, with an occasional patrol where we wouldn't manage to kill anything.  Wow, really? People pay monthly for that?  It was a terribly boring experience.

So with the idea that actually fighting people is part of what makes siege-style gameplay fun, Planetside was leaps and bounds ahead of any other game I've tried.  Log on during primetime, join your outfit, zone into the continent, and you'll be involved in a constant epic conflict (up to 200v200v200) til you logoff.

...of course I doubt Planetside has enough population for that to be the case nowadays, so it's not a very relevant answer to the question.
