More than any other game, DF seems to attract the e-thugs. Even in this thread, Izure is the typical text-book Darkfall player... can't hold a conversation without calling names and acting hard about an internet game. Be prepared to hear laughable terms like "non factor" a lot in DF. I can't tell you how many times I've heard the phrase "I'll shit on you" in replace of "I'll kill you,"

The game's not half bad, but WoW has a more mature and intelligent community. The majority of Darkfallers are the "roid ragers" of internet gaming.

I wouldn't go that far. I have my issues with DarkFall too but aside from ForumFall and the Racial Alliance chat which is always messed up by the same 2-3 guys, the community was actually good.

How would he know that if was judging the community based solely on Forumfall and race alliance chat?

The people who make ignorant comments like that about Darkfall's community are most likely not the most social of gamers if you know what I mean.

    Please...

Don't act like the community is amazing and everyone who says otherwise are ignorant trolls. Ever since launch tons have agreed that the community is shit. Don't be bitter just because I insulted your game. This game is so small in population and so viral, the ratio of forum users to players is huge compared to most box sales games. Just because you know a few cool people doesn't mean the community is amazing. Filtering out the thousands of forumfallers and RA chatters leaves... well just about nobody.

Race Alliance for Human/Mirdain/Dwarf looks fine to me.

I've never been insulted, shit talked to, QQed to, or anything like that either.

Maybe it's because of how I treat others?

In my 10 days of play, I also never encountered anything bad in the channel. There wasn't much talking (EU) going, most of the talk was regular trade chat. Even the person who kept griefing me and several of other noob victims was not rude at all, but refused to back down and let us play. He was the reason why I quit. A polite murderer/griefer. Who knew they existed

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

OMG!! you got grief? Day 9 of trial and i never got killed while pveing. The only time i got killed is when i was looking for pvp myself. I traveled in mirdain land looking to kill some newb with a mount while an strong alfar came out from nowhere killed my mount and proceed to kill me in 5 hits.

You know what i do while pve and i see a ostyle player? I report it on racial chat and players make him get away. I reported like 2 times and i got pmed back saying thatt hey killed the guy. Then, they dont even come back again. Its easy to get reed of griefers if you communicate.

Also, you should always farm for a steed grass and you will never die. I always carry a mount while pveing. Once i hear a player noise or see an ostyle player, i spawn mount under  a sec, look around to confirm if someone was there and run away back to base if there was really someone. Then, i report on racial alliance.

Just learn to survive is the key to survive in darkfall. You wont die with a mount, trust me and it take around an hour to afk farm for a steedgrass. While you at it, you can browse on the net or do some exercise.

I wasn't just griefed, I was farmed. I couldn't get out of the starting town (I was mirdain). Racial chat did not help, noone came to our defence. I didn't need to run away because I was safe in the starter town, but the guy wouldn't leave for hours, and kept trying to snipe us from the safety just outside of the town. I along with several noobs first tried to kill him without any luck - he was fast, much faster then us. And he killed me in 4 shots. We couldn't even take him below 85-90% of his HP... he just kept healing whatever little damage we were dealing.

I realize that 9 days of fair play compared to 1 day of unfair play does not seem like a huge deal to some, but to me it is. I really dont want to rely on good intentions of a 12 year old or even a mature adult who just needs to get out of red alignment (farming noobs is the quickest way to do it).

and what happens when you die?  do you lose it all or perma death etc..

any other info would be cool thanks ^_^

The OP asks about the game and everybody starts arguing . ... LOL

Basically you are placed into a starting racial NPC town in a huge no-instanced world where you will find a home, a player-style that works best for you as you develope a character, and find a steady income whether that be from trading, harvesting/crafting, PVP, or more likely PVE. Your stats raise with everything that you do but not nearly as fast as your skills. You level whatever skill that you use as you use it and it raises twice as fast if you hit a mob.

The game is considered hardcore because there is no easy fast-travel and it is FFA PVP with full-loot (you drop everything that you are carrying when you die). There is no 100% safe place anywhere. Unlike other games that I play, in this one it hurts a lot more when I die . .. which creates a real sense of accomplishment or failure that other games seem to seriously lack in today's market. Both the PVE and PVP is very fun but not for everyone as it is much harder than most games.

You will not find PVP often but when you do it can turn out being your most epic PVP experience in any MMO. You may end up lining the ramparts with your bow defending your clan's city from being taken, man a cannon to take down the wall of an enemy city as your buddies charge in, go out into sea for some naval combat, etc. If you are a solo player things will be a lot more challenging and you will not take part in the larger battles but more often fighting enemy race PKs that come looking for blood. I actually prefer rolling solo most of the time as I like not having to worry about hitting friendlies on accident and think it is funner to be outnumbered, even if I cannot win. I used to do the sieges and stuff more often and they are definitely worth checking out because most of my best experiences were during a siege.

This game has a good balance of PVE and PVP so it is best to love both. It is sandbox so you do what you want . .. no being forced down quest-chains and instanced areas. No path is drawn for you so you will benefit more by knowing how to make your own fun. PVP at first is very tough as you seem to die really fast until you get more practice in. Eventually you should be fighting 30min+ in most encounters when you have a veteran character (even if you are outnumbered and losing). When you get this developed the experience is extremely fun and nothing else really compares PVP-wise. I enjoy the PVE in this game more than others as well because the mobs seem to have real intelligence and are a lot funner to fight than mobs in other games.

The community has more freedom than any other MMO pretty much. Player-made city/hamlets, housing, player-controlled economy, etc. It seems that most of your foes will eventually become friends if you keep playing. The community isn't as bad as everyone says. I like the fact that all of the people that I play with are around 30, AV says the average DFO player is 27, and I pretty much never run into kids. There are plenty of angry adults and potheads that act like kids though .. . lol

I used to think that everyone would end up the same when I started 16 months ago. I can honestly say that I have never come across someone who fights exactly like I do. I know that there must be people out there who must but I just never see it . ... I stopped developing my character long ago because I am satisfied with my current build and have managed to avoid grinding almost completely. Most of the server are mages and people who for some reason feel the need to grind everything so that if they want to use something they can at any time. It really isn't necessary to have everything unlocked and built up. Prestige classes are coming soon and that should encourage more people to play like I do (without grinding everything). My kill/death ratio is usually around 4/1 so that is more than good enough. I don't really use magic but yeah like someone already mentioned I do have an AOE heal, some debuffs, and cool utility spells for things like launching myself which is totally fun.

If you try it out, keep in mind that the best part of the game is about 6 months in so the fun just keeps getting better, or it did for me anyways. I have been playing for 16 months and still have many ways to build my character still . .. fortunately you do not need more skills than the next guy to win. You can get a pretty wicked setup in just a couple months. Practice is what the new player seriously lacks, not skills or stats imho. I have always been a pretty casual player. I play about 10-20 hours a week these days because I work a lot . ..

DF in short is a hybrid of UO and Quake. With a recent magic nerf it's become a bit less Quake and a bit more Rune (there was a great slasher with a great multiplayer options), but anyway you may figure out what the game looks like.

    it is different than SB.

I personally like the game better.  Better controls, MUCH better graphics (even for the times).  it is skill based which is good and bad.  Sieges are amazing if you are with an organized group (pretty horrible if you are not)

Combat is FAR more chaotic than SB.  SB was easy to overcome lag issues due to tab target.  tab targeting does not exist in this game and everything is FPS.  This changes the gameplay tremendously.

Shadowbane was way better than this game in every way.  The only thing I would say is better is Darkfall's PVE.

They are so different from one another.

I would definintely prefer Darkfall combat . .. no contest because you are not standing there trading blows and watching damage numbers floating up in the air. In Darkfall, you can dodge and parry or jump on your mount or take the fight underwater, etc. I really like how you can use your environment in Darkfall which makes the fight a lot more realistic feeling and funner. If you were to try using a rampart on a castle in most games, it would not block attacks and your position does not matter when there is a mob or person locked on you. In Darkfall, your surroundings are your battleground and you can use them as cover, etc.

This game contains "korean grind" if you can adapt to it and get over it (few months grind), then you could get some awesome time with this game. Although now it shouldnt be that hard as it was before since the patch. Just dont expect to "pawn" anybody 1 on 1.

Best way is to make your own opinion and try the free Trial.

This is a statement only a Bad First person shooter would say,

I know a 4 week old character owning a Vet who played since the first month of EU-1 release.

You know how he won? because of the patch that just happened, Aiming is everything now.

Before I would agree with you, but may I ask when was the last time you played?

That said, the game is kind of grindy, but you can be competitive(NOW AFTER PATCH) in 1-2 months, You wont be able to do it "ALL" but you will own people if you know how to fight, smart.

Cant you just accept my opinion which im sharing with others? Do you always have to get personal and start insulting?

Aswell i mentioned it shouldnt be that long as it was before since the patch!

Sorry bro, last time you played? or you are a non factor like any other troll, if you do not play this game or havnt played in 6 months, its retarded to post "opinions" about a game you dont or probably never played?

Games change, opinions should too about that said game.

The fact that you have to grind didnt change. You still have to grind the skills / stats if you want to be competative. The fact that you are absolute non factor for pvp first weeks didnt change. The fact that a vet hits / shoots 3 times faster then you by his high quickness diddnt change. The fact that the vets got higher hps then you and can eat lesser dmg then you didnt change. I could go on about the fact which didnt change since the patch.

Define the vet which was beat by the 4 week old char .... 2-3 months aint a vet and it depends extremly the play time of the guy. One of my guild mates had 230 hp and played since launch but he had magic, but i guess now probably he wont play further ;-)

The fact that aiming importance increased is true and the age of magefall ended is aswell true but the grind is still there :)

You can call me bad fps player (playing FPS games since 10+ years) or a non factor ( Why you should be a factor? Your opinion vs my opinion.) Ive done my experience and i still follow the discussion in forumfall and i talk from time to time with mates and my bro which are still playing the game. In fact i wouldnt wonder that i know more about the game then you ever will.

Yes, it a MMO, there is a progression which can be perceived as grind if you go about play a certain way.  It's still nothing like the very dull grind of theme park MMO's and their raids for uber gear.  Why don't people like you just face it, your not old school MMO'er at heart, you're a next gen theme park MMO'er. You don't get MMO's that let you live a day in the life and not be lea you around by the hand Mr short attention span.

Thanks for the SB comparisons, decided to give the trial a shot.   So far so good.   Combat, mechanics and graphics are much better.   I will always miss the character development in SB but this one has potential too.    I take it there is no stealth in this game so no pocket picking.  Ah well, maybe I can find some Tlans to tide me over.

Stealth in Darkfall is a real skill of yours, try to take cover while crouching which makes almost no noise and try to close in on enemy's back, upcoming environment sound changes  will make Darkfall's real stealth skill more important.

Went Mirdain since I usually play elven rogues or archers.   Haven't checked to see if I can keep the char should I decide to sub.  I have only played for a few hours and still have the newbie shield, but I have been surprised at the lack of punks.   I didn't expect to find so many helpful players in this type of game.

My character is Mirdain as well.   If you give me a shout in game some time, I'd be happy to show you around a bit.  Name in game is China Cat.     Yes, if you decide to sub you can convert the trial to a paid account and keep the character.

People are generally a lot more decent these days for many reasons:

    - People have leveled and spread out so nooby areas can be pretty slow and people do not have to share mobs as much anymore.

    - Many griefers have leveled enough to raid clan cities/hamlets so have moved up in the world and are not griefing starter areas as much. Many have lost interest in griefing noobs because there really is no point. There is a lot more than you can take from a more developed character.

    - There have been several ban waves getting rid of those who used 3rd party software hacks and stuff.

    - Many people have actively played this game hardcore for a year plus and are taking a break until the expansion.

    - Many people are planning on playing Darkfall but are waiting for the expansion.

    - Open-world PVP is not as active as it used to be. You can find PVP almost immediate at any time that you want but safer PVP is not as easy to find anymore. People who play this game more for the PVE/exploration/etc. are generally nicer. Right now the population favors the PVE player because he/she will get bothered less while they are doing their thing.

I am sure a lot of douchbaggery will return along with a population boom after the upcoming expansion.

I would not waist your time playing Dark Fall.  Been playing since Na1 Release and finally left and Glad for it, maybe some day Adventure will listen to there customers.  The Things that AV allow's to be said in there chat system is Vile.  Vets of the Game role around and hunt the new people and so on, they are so board its the only fun they have left.
