Why FFXI sucks....

I love this game and all but it has some large issues that cannot be overlooked.

1) Players are nasty and arent willing to help.

2)Earning gil. Games are supposed to release us from reality and gil is just as hard to make as real life mony, thats depressingly retarted.

3)The battle system is horrible, press X twice then sit there. i preffer tapping X and hitting with combos.

4)The need to be high lvl. When your a low lvl all you can do is train there is no fun events /quest to do and the expansions are for high lvls only 30+. im high lvl but i still think its unfair for new players.

Ok i would like to comment on problem 1 and 2.

1.) the players i have met while playing on my friends character at his house that all the people on the server that he plays on.

2.) The money is easier to come by as you get a higher level and the more you craft.

Most peoplein FFXI are selfish and rent willing to help. I admit i have alot of friends but thats just a couple of people.

And money is never easy to come by.

  • RelianceReliance Member Posts: 89

Lol well Its just the character type i suppose... But you decide lol...

Then again some jobs and races can make more money then others....

i have to disagree with ppl being mean and not willing to help ive been playing for 1 1/2 years and i have meet few really just not nice people and getting gil is hard if your low lvl but once you get higher it just kinda flows in and the lower lvls are just to get the feeling of the game

While I dont agree with the ppl being mean or not helpful, because I get on for about 10 minutes I'm being ask to join a party or help with a quest since I got Lv.30. But getting money on here is Unbelievably HARD. I can steal with my thief for hours or use my BLM to kill hundreds of Goblins and still only get 50k or if I'm lucky 100k. But just one item I might need can be as much as 350k or 1 million. Especially trying to buy all the spells for WHM,BLM,RDM etc. plus there armour ( geesh ). I dont think they should have made the money ( gil ) so hard to come by, remember this is a game and it shouldnt be as hard to get money as real life. Is the next FF going to make you goto college in the game too. LOL .... and everyone knows these crazy NM campers ruins the economy plus you cant just kill a creature and get the item you need.

This is a different type of game for a different type of player.  This MMORPG is ment for those who love the social life.  While you can do things solo, it is better to party with other people.  I have not had much problems finding a party to level up with or do quests.  Once you hit level 20 and get your big yellow bird you can find people all over.  I play both WoW and Final Fantasy and both are great games for what they do.  Social and Solo.

    1. i think this problem would be solved if ppl new to the game would do some research on their own...either get a guide from the store or bookmark some good ffxi websites...new players come in and start asking millions of noob questions and begging ppl for help all the time and some higher lvl players dont like that...and asking total strangers ingame for help is probably a bad idea...get a decent linkshell early on and ask them...but dont ask too much and help them when they need (give - give situation)
    2. couldnt agree with you more man...gil is hard to get...but alot of these high prices on items are due to Gil Sellers which are hopefully being dealt with very soon...they completely screwed up the economy...and to the guy who said he buys gil: thats pretty stupid to say that on a forum man...you do realize its against POL rules to buy or sale gil right? =/
    3. wow, never heard that one before...what job are you?  i mean all jobs have things to do...maybe you just arent very high lvl at all and havent gotten any good job abilites/magic/weapon skills....the battle system is pretty cool imo
    4. first, 30+ is not really high lvl at all...also, theres plenty to do if you're a true adventurer...travel to new places, explore, rank missions, quests, PvP(Ballista), etc....tons of different things to do, you just have to go find out what you can do at your lvl...

i sence a lack of research from you...sites like Allakhazam.com, Killing Ifrit, and Mystery Tour arent just helpful, they are a must have...those 3 sites should be your best friends and you should talk to them before you go do anything new ^^

Just replying on # 3 since everyone made a comment on the others.

What do you mean just press X and sit there?  ever been in a skill chain? Magic burst?  Every fight in this game post level 10 needs your full attention, varying on your job. You may need to voke, cast a spell, etc.  not to mention keeping an eye on the PT's macros so you can excute a SkillChain properly. (and that's why i think that WHM has the hardest job since they need to watch over the whole PT.)

I don't think that FFXI is a terrible game at all. It may suit some people's tastes more than others. That's why you try out different games, until you find the one for you.

People do need to do at least a little research before they even buy the game. You should know what you are getting yourself into. Reading the instruction guide would help, it can get annoying when a lvl 15 person is asking how to do something simple, like changing your font color, lol. Also, find out what your job does, knowing how to do your job will save you pain and the people you party with.

People are very immature on this game, but then there are also some really great people too. But then again, that is just like real life, so you just have to deal with it.

Money isn't really that hard to come by, you just have to explore your money making options. Even when i was just beginning, I was able to get the good armor and stay updated with my equipment. I used to do logging, but I stopped, b/c the logging places are crowded. With the price inflation, Elm Logs now cost 12-14k on Alexander server. So everyone flocks there, easy money right? LOL!

But seriously, this is a good game, it has been good to me. It was my first MMORPG, and i think it was a good game to learn on. I did go through a TON of crap, but its all good. I'm planning on quitting FFXI been getting tired of it after i started a new character. Knowing that i have to level one job to 30 and another to 15 just so i can get the job i want. Then i have to level a subjob for that job. Once i finally get to lvl 30, the game will get better, I know that. Why should I have to go through all that just so I can have fun? Should I have to play for 5 hours at level 13 and not level up? No, I shouldn't especially since I have done it countless times before. Getting a halfway decent PT in Valkurm is really hard. I know that Valkurm is where everyone learns the dynamics of their job in a pt, but c'mon. It shouldn't be that hard to learn your job.

And I'm not being L33t or anything, I totally understand that crap happens in Valkurm. But there is a time when you need to step up and learn your job and do it right. I was in a pt in Yoahtar Jungle. I was War and there was a Pld. I noticed that the paladin kept doing Defender and hardly ever provoked. Defender isn't as good as some would think, you lose more attack that it is worth, you can't keep hate if you don't hurt the monster. I asked him why he was doing what he was doing. He said that he was taking damage and he didn't want to get hurt. A lvl 25 Pld saying he doesn't want to get hurt, is that funny or what? lol

After getting my new lvl 14 Mithra Warrior(which was very fun to play as, much more versatile than Elvaan war) I decided that I should be enjoying the game that i'm paying $14 a month for. And I wasn't enjoying it, once i looked back on it. I was always dreaming of how fun it will be when I get to the high levels, what fun it would be, while i was going through hell, lol. It wasn't all hell, but it is enough to quit the game. I might be back, but i highly doubt it.

I'm sure every game has things that are good and things that are bad.  Also I'm not sure how FFXI's problems stack up compared to other MMORPG's.  Everyone has their opinion, so here's mine....   I've read most of the posts and much of this is true.  I didn't find the community to be as bad as some say because you pretty much carve your own little spot into the community.  As a matter of fact I would have bailed on FFXI much sooner had it not been for the friends I made there.  Money is tough to come by and a bit easier to make as you level (50+ seemed to be a money making hurdle)  The FFXI is definately in a tailspin though.  High end items like LL boots, Emp Hairpin and some others have nearly tripled in price.  Look at the price of shihei, fish mith and stuff like that and any veteran of the game can remember better days.  As slow as it is to level your main and subjob it's a drag to have to stop and farm for days so your character isn't gimped.  What makes this already slow leveling process even SLOWER is sitting and looking for a party.  Once upon a time the server I played on was much different.  Players were playing jobs they enjoyed, lots of people knew each other and respected each other, and bonds were made as we leveled different jobs for main/sub/utility/fun.  The game as it was when I left was more like people bragging they "pwned so and so", a huge surge in jobs that get parties fast (with junk gear and gimped subs) and people shouting racial slurs and such in jeuno because they were quitting the game and didn't care if they got booted.  As one of the posts mentioned there were people 20-25+ not knowing their jobs.  I saw this with people up into the 40's and 50's.  That's what happens when you're playing a job you don't care all that much about but you level just so you can get parties fast.  It seems to me there are some jobs that if you don't get into a static party you're doomed to camp out in jeuno and hope for a party or try to form your own.  Lastly the point I'd like to make is you have to have a LOT of time to get anywhere in this game.  A simple exp party can take 30-60 mins to get rolling AFTER you get an invite.  In many cases it can take longer.  It takes so long sometimes to get rolling that many times your party would form up, finally get out to the exp area and then a few battles later someone would have to go.  You can't really be mad at people like that though because not everyone has 10 hours a day to play.  Don't get me wrong, I can grind with as much stamina with the best of them into the wee hours of the morning.  I also enjoy grouping tremendously.  I just think gamers should have a choice with grouping or soloing being a choice not a demand.  Make solo exp decent and grouping exp a bit better if you want to encourage grouping.  This is just my take on it, I hope it helped give some of you a clearer view of the game.  Good luck.
  • AramoireAramoire Member Posts: 11

A lot has changed since the beginning of FFXI, just like you said, it has happened on my server as well. Getting parties are hard, after a few battles the whm and the only tank has to leave. Then you spend 30 minutes finding two people, then to have the blm have to leave. It can really get to you after a while. But like you said, you can't really be mad at them.

Then you get the people that, after one death, leave the party. But, I guess that is just like in other mmo's.

If FFXI was like when it was a while back, then I would still be playing it. But that won't happen, oh well.

Well about ppl, remember the 2 yrs ago the game was playing just with jp people.  Japans help me a lot when i start, more than americans.  About the gils, just go and farm.  U really dont need the 5.5 million gils gears, the game brings you what u need for gears at Lvl 29-32 and at L50-60.  The only think that I dont likes (1 of the reason that im quitting) is that you will kill the same damn bunny or clipper or gob or orc but stronger passing all levels.  The mobs needs to be changed.

The games okay but i really don't like the mobs being the same with a difference only in the words, plus being a low level really bytes. But other wise the game is good (the money is horrible, so many hours)

    1) They should get some more Moderators

2)So it is diffrent from other MMORPS who Cares

    3)Battle needs a little help i agree

4)That is why you train, most games the new people cant do a thing until they are higher lvl

i have to admit the level grind is a byotch but as u get higher it starts to get better. i have to disagree with problem 3, use macros, it helps image . also #1 most of the ppl i met are quite nice, especially in guilds, but occassionally u come across the server's a hole
