Uematsu Magic - a new topic

AericynAericyn Member UncommonPosts: 394

Sure has been a rough day for the FF14 forums.

How about a new topic? Today I was listening to Prima Vista Orchestra (FFIX) and thinking about how much it reminds me of a Harry Potter track, though I cannot think of which one it is tonight.

Anyhow, I started thinking about how different composers work together sometimes to create a movie soundtrack. So, here is a question for discussion.

  • Who would you love to see collaborate with Nobuo Uematsu?

  • Why?

Could be for a new movie, a new game, anything.

Having a tough time picking one myself - Nobuo and John Williams might be too /obvious though likely successful.

How about Nobuo and James Newton Howard (Batman Begins, Hidalgo, The Fugitive, Lady in the Water), Klaus Badelt (Time Machine, first POTC) or Thomas Newman (Finding Nemo, Jarhead, American Beauty). Hans Zimmer? Slightly overrated and not my favorite but I certainly enjoy a lot of his stuff.

Think I pick James Newton Howard as first choice. His compositions are very complex, often magical and always fun.

Choices are endless you could choose outside movie composers, Jeremy Soule or Inon Zur for example. If you suggest Lady Gaga I hope to hear a very compelling reason why. image

Slayer. Uematsu goes from classical to popish pretty seemless so paring him with someone who is good at one or the other wouldn't really change much. Now Uematsu has toyed with the blues-scale version of rock here and there and doesn't seem to be afraid of tempo where it needs to be. Slayer has 2 speeds and they're both designed to scare people away before the actual depth of the lyrics causes controversy. Give both story telling style composers a bit of collaboration to be themselves and I think it'd be magic.

I kill other players because they're smarter than AI, sometimes.

Bill Brown does some great stuff. I always like Lineage 2 and Return to Castle Wolfenstein music. Rainbow Six had some excellent themes from him too.

He is able to layer on some thick driving (power) rhythms. I imagine Bill would be the force and charisma, Uematsu would be the melody and mood.

Raining blood! From a lacerated sky!

Music topics are often fun because you can get so many opinions and ideas without too much fanboism. Wonder why that is with music? While some might say unconventional neither would be an unsuitable for pairing up together. Slayer and Uematsu would be an eclectic mix to say the least.

I didn’t know Slayer was still doing things actively. Metal days began waning for me sometime after Seasons in the abyss. Early 90s was a fantastic era for metal, not to recur in my eyes. So many groups put out iconic albums. Death Angel’s Act Three, Suicidal’s Lights, Camera, Revolution. Rust in Peace, Persistence of Time. Many others but suppose I am sliding OT…
