I mean how exciting can it be, if it is similar to FFXI it will be boring lol, most games that I played do not have that great of a crafting system. You go into the cookbook per say and pick what you are going to make then a few seconds later its made. There is no take out the hammer and hammer the metal to a finish product or anything since this takes time people dont care for it. I would like something a bit more involved but most people would probably hate it.
Haven't seen any game with a crafting or housing system as well designed as SWG's, and that game is ages old. Guess it is just one of those things the main playerbase has no interest in so people do not spend time developing it... too bad.
You also couldn't jump in SWG, it must've been crap
I just watched the botony video. Does anyone else think it looks painfully slow? It was over 2 minutes before he found anything. Plus, when he selects the option to chop, there's almost a 5 second delay before it actually happens
My only hope is that they once again have risks involved in the crafting. A lot of F2P asian MMOs that I've checked out have methods of creating or modifying armor that have a chance of failing and ruining the item, with the chance being higher the greedier you get. I like this a lot better than no-risk systems where the outcome is known... where you can't fail and can't get an HQ result. The thrill of finally getting lucky and getting the result you want isn't possible without having a chance of failing and being set back, and the best crafted items are more prestigious and valuable that way.

You really couldn't tell that that "slowness" was due to server lag? I could. Very easily. The lag is of course the big issue in beta. They get that fixed by launch things will move much smoother and "faster".
I'm loving the look of the crafting. It gives harvesting a mini game aspect. You will definitely have to be patient to be a harvester/crafter.
Also, I read somewhere...can't tell you ;P, that the crafting is pretty deep, where you pick certain materials, and depending on the grade of the material with determine the grade of the finished product. Similar in ways to SWG. I'm sure we'll hear more as the weeks progress to launch though.
