Looking for Server and helpful players

in Final Fantasy XI

Hello everyone.

I was thinking about picking this game up tonight seeings I have never really gotten a chance to play it, and have heard many good things about it. I just have a few questions before purchacing it.

 

What server has the healthiest population.

Which server would a "newb" have an eaiser time grouping and learning from other players.

Are new players still viable and able to reach endgame or will I mainly have to solo to the top (or at least attempt to solo)

 

I'm sure they're questions but these are my main concerns. I would like to meet up with some friendly and helpful people and have a fun time in game.

    I have the same question.

    I was thinking about picking this game up and I was wandering how is the population in this game knowing that FFXIV  is comming ?

    Anyone has any server in mind for a "newb" ?

    Asura is pretty good choice.

     

    But the game is not user friendly. If you are waiting for FFXIV, I'd rather skip this one. 

    It takes long time to do anything, so you wouldn't really advance very far. It's also unforgiving. A real hardcore experience from the death penalty to the time commitment.

    Thank you for the answer.

    I was looking for a game to pass the time until FFXIV is released and I thought of FFXI (knowing it is made by the same company).

    8 years is a long time in the MMO scene I'm afraid. Lot of the gameplay mechanics are long outdated by now. 

    Maybe there is something else to try? :D

    I know that this is an "old" game, but I was thinking not at the graphics. I was thinking at the lore and the beautifull story.

    Do you know a game like that ?

    I am always let down by the stories in MMO's after XI, but it opens up so late that you wouldn't be able to enjoy it before XIV.

    LOTRO has some kind of "story" I guess. I think it's a good way to pass time for a few months.

    Eh, well I went ahead and bought it anyways. If I end up liking XI I'll play both that and XIV. So hopefully I can meet up with some friendly people in game. Its updating as we speak and I intend on rolling on the Ashura server.
