Hyped for this game

Hey folks,

I have been following this game casually from a distance for a while, but reading more and more lately of interest.  I like how it appears to be a fairly traditional mmo - requiring grouping a bit more than other mmos out there, with a decent crafting system etc.  Can anyone confirm the quality of the crafting in the game, also how is the playerbase? I played FFXI for a few months back when it came out but left for DAoC at the time - just for guildies really - I didn't find it so friendly at all then compared to DAoC - what's the general feel for the quality of the  community in FF XiV?

Thanks.

Theirs info on crafting in personal blogs and such i've found on google, i think it'd be violating the nda if i posted anything about them here though =s Sounds like a step up from what it was in ffxi to say the least.

No way of judging the player base until the game is out really, and I wouldn't exactly use this site as a reference either given the..variety of posters here.

I'd expect it to be like any other mmo community really, at least around release and up to a few months-year, they're usually not all that different until people figure out whether they want to stick with the game or not.

Thanks for info.  I checked out a YouTube blog on crafting but was quite hard to really follow what was going on.  I guess I am just hoping that it's something that they've developed from the ground up and not just an afterthought.

I guess you're right about the playerbase thing - it's just in the past with a few games it was in forums such as these that people started guilds/formed communities etc. in the build of excitement.  EQ2, DAoC, SWG etc. so I just worry sometimes that the game is going to be a bit WoW-like with playerbase.  Which is fine, just means playing more solely with guildies etc.

Likewise; hopefully it plays out interesting since they have designated classes for crafting rather than just having it a secondary trained profession or something.

Blegh i certainly hope the players don't become tight-knit around their group of trusted people/friends, though it does seem to happen with a lot of recent mmo's. I've always prefered PuG'ing and such rather than commiting to a group of friends/guildies

    Guess we'll see :S

The commuity at launch will be like the community of every other MMO. People are going to flock to FFXIV because its the "next big" MMO launch.

Were all going to have to wait atleast 5+ months before we even start to see what type of communty will form.

Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)
    Now Playing: N/A
    Worst MMO: FFXIV
    Favorite MMO: FFXI
