Planning to Play WoW

ObakeObake Member Posts: 25

Ok, so I'm upgrading my computer since none of the newer games run on it. I plan to have it be the first game to run on a new spiffy amd 64 with a sexy new motherboard. This is going to be the first 3D mmo I will actually spend money on!

Back on topic. I want to know why WoW is so great. How would you rank the pvp? I'm a real big pvp, so I'm interested in how balanced it is. How's the community? I really enjoy a strict goal setting guild. Are there many raid/achievement guilds that don't have the dreaded "cliques?"

I've done tremendous research on the game (mostly through forums) since I've been deprived of a mmo for about 2 weeks now (the other mmo I play ran out of days). I've decided I'm going to be an undead mage and I've also decided my build and I've saved numerous files on strategies and where to hunt according to your level.

Lastly how well would WoW run on my system:

CPU: AMD 64 3000+ 1.8ghz
Memory: 1 gb ram (dual sticks of ddr but one is pc2100 and the other is pc3200 which was a big mistake)
Video: 128mb nvidia mx4000 (pci-e)
Power Supply: 250 watts :/

You shouldn't have to worry about running WoW when you've just bought a new rig. WoW runs even on my brother's 5 year old comp.

As of now, there's no real PvP reward system or any interesting activities. All you can do right now is some ganking, occasional raid on emeny capital or just regular fight in contested areas. No real point beside fighting for fun, read some info on the official site about battlegrounds and PvP rewards that are going to be implemented soon.
Despite what some people cry about, all classes are fairly balanced.

And a hint for a start, pick a low pop server and do some research which ones have most uptime since nothing suck mroe than 'server down' message and Blizzard is having a lot of problems with certain servers.

Well I know it will run on the new specs, but I don't know how well it will run. Will I have to put it at minimum graphics for it to run smooth or will it still be smooth at maximum graphics with the system I have?

I plan to play the Kil' Jaedan server since I have a good number of friends already there ::::02::

I've heard about the recent downtimes, but it shouldn't be a problem. I've played other mmo's and usually when there's downtime I just switch games and that usually keeps me entertained for a few hours until the server gets up :)

Wouldn't these "friends" be your best and most reliable sources of information?

Yeah, but seeing as they're not techs I doubt they would know how well WoW would run on my new specs :P

WoW will run flawlessy on your new rig as long as you have at least 512 mb of ram, a decent processor (and any AMD 64 is) and a 3d graphic card not manufactured in the '98 that supports Direct X, better if 9.

The pvp has no other reason than "fun" at the moment. changes are coming but not in at the moment just yet. Still, i've seen big raids attacking the capitals and it gets pretty hectic there plus if you go to PvP servers from level 20 up you have to be on your toes all the time. getting to level 20 do not takes that much.

The community is the ususal. good people and bad people mixed together. I dunno about the PvP servers communities tough, the one in EU RP is quite nice. a few jerks, yes, but hey. i expect them.

    The game is fun cause:

1)style: everything in this game is NOT conventional. very Blizzardish

    2) Classes, while "only" 9, each one has many many many possibilities and powers at their disposal. Each also plays remarkably different from the others. Can't confuse a Pally play style with a rogue, not even by a mile.

3)the Environments looks gorgoues. all regions are packed full of points of interests, monster caves, encampments, ruined towers, mage towers still standing, undead crypts, fortresses, gnome airports, crashed planes, underwater things, ruined towns, haunted houses and so on. really a lot to see.

    4) The quests are fun: there are enough to always give you one, always have a goal, always know what to do next, no mindless grinding if you do not want to. Quests also gives you extras sometimes, little stories, nice writings, scenes... specials... that kind of stuff.

5)Auction houses, nice economy, simple and effective crafting, few downtime, no fuss and no frustrations.

That what i can think right now. have a nice day

WoW will run very smooth on your system, if you invest in one thing it should be more RAM. I used to run on my laptop w/512mb and in large raids and running through IF, it could turn into a slideshow. So if anything bump it up to 1-2gig, if you don't want to experience client-side lag in large raids.

IMO the pvp is well balanced, a lot of the top pvp'ers for each class are recognized as the best in the community. So it's pretty cool when you get a chance to take one down in battle. Most of the pvp are small skirmishes and the occassional large raid. Raids happen fairly often on my server, if you really like pvp raiding you should join a big guild that does it often.(or just go to South Shore, or monitor the World Defense channel) The new outdoor raid encounters when spawned are also a prime pvp location. Since there's no reward system now, all of the pvp is for fun and reputation and some people would rather gear themselves up then go on another pvp raid. Once the reward system is in place and people have a built-in tally sheet and ladder to compete over, things will be a lot more crazy(good or bad)::::32::
