Server Stability

So, how's the server?  Still crashing multiple times a day.  I don't want to join until I'm pretty comfortable that the server is performing pretty consistently.

    It is still going down all the time.  24/7 support (aka they don't know how to fix the crashing) as they can't get the server stable enough to stay online for more than a few minutes at a time without having someone to click Restart every few minutes.

    The server crashes a few times a day.  Not ideal, but no where near as bad as your claiming.

    The server crashes a few times a day.  Not ideal, but no where near as bad as your claiming.

    A released game should crash maximum 1 time a week, let alone some times a day...a released game should have some minor magus...but MO has all major bugs with some minor things working...

    Gross exageration in this thread, it is clear a few of you posting don't actually play. Server crashing a few times a day now, they've managed to fix the majority of it.

    Because you don't play anymore doesn't mean the server isn't full. Proof is in the pudding, the game world is full of active players.

    Evoras, a member on the official MO forum, has been diligently collecting server stability stats for the first month, which he released just a few days ago.  This is the text of his results:

    Chart #1 : Total-UPtime and Number of server restarts per day.

    Here we see total server-UPtime rose from a low start to a respectable 20-23Hrs/day. Server restarts, which started at a massive 1/hour still appear to be dropping, currently at 6-10 restarts/day.

    Though these restarts tend to be breifer now, excepting maintenance and patches, this restarting every 2-4 hrs still seems too frequent 1 month in.



    Chart #2 : This shows the Longest play period and the average per day.

    While the trend for play-time has been upward, it now appears to be levelling off. This is due to the number of server restarts staying above 6/day. Projecting the server restart data forwards, we see that the mean up-time (estimated 'average' time the server would be playable before a restart occurred) is still little more than 2hrs at a time, perhaps creeping up over 4hrs at a time over the next 2-3 weeks.



    Chart #3 : Comparing Longest Up-time against Off-Line mode incidents.

    As we see, the longest playable stretch is rising. It still shows one good 6hrs stretch per day. Unfortunately, the high number of server restarts/day is keeping this figure comparatively low. The longest continuous period for the server staying up and playable is only 10 hrs and has only exceeded 8 hrs on 3 occassions.

    The number of Off-Line instances is getting harder to judge as the duration of these incidents is dropping (presumably due to vigilent SV staff). The actual number of these appears to fluctuate wildly, but it is far more likely that their number is holding at a fairly consistent 4-6/day but is being masked by speedy server reboots. Either way, the trend for them is not actually falling.



    Conclusion : One month in, there are certain conclusions to be drawn.

    1. Total time the Server is up per/day and has risen to 22-23 hrs/day.

    2. Server Stability has improved from a terrible low, but is far from good.

    3. Offline-Mode still exists and accounts for some 25% of server restarts.

    4. Uninterrupted play time is too low, being less than 4hrs before a restart.

    Anecdotally, the players appear to agree with the improvement, as reflected here:

    The servers are not 100% stable yet, which they need to keep working toward, but overall server stability has increased greatly from launch to this time - they are routinely up for several hours at a time, and downtimes are normally very short.  Any statement that claims the servers are only up for minutes at a time is a lie.

    Thanks, it's good to see it has improved dramatically since launch.  I'll give it a couple more weeks and check again.

    I realize that to fans of the games these result appear to be a very positive trend, but I could never tolerate this sort of performance in a launched product regardless what feature set it incorportated.

    I'll still have to stay clear until the game really launches.   (meaning server restarts/crashes drop to less than 1-2 times a week)

    You bumped this thread and reposted that huge image just to point out that Maerlyn deleted "Why this game is a pice of shit." two weeks ago?

    Just thought I would point out that that would violate the TOS on this forum and get deleted here too, so it's hardly worth pointing out Maerlyn editing it. Especially two weeks after the fact.
