Don't fool yourself.. This is nothing more then attempting to draw more players in by using sex appeal. Sadly it shows that state that STO is in and that they are trying anything and everything to retain and bring more people into it.
STO is doing fine and the idea of using this actress was brought up on the forums by a player, not STO. It caught on with others on the forums and they began a campaign to get her hired. One of the cool things about STO right now is how involved the devs are with the players and how much interaction and response from them there is on the forums. We don't find anything like that level of interaction on the WoW forums and upcoming MMO FFXIV apparently won't even provide a forum for their players to give feedback. Apparently they don't want to know what their players think. It's pretty interesting watching STO develop in response to what they're players are requesting.

you say involvement, id call it researching what the remaining player base will pay more for in the c-store (funny how most of what people want goes int he c-store isnt it?)
IF THE ONLY DEFENCE FOR CRITICISM OF A GAME IS CALLING SOMEONE A TROLL OR HATER, THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE GAME

Not true. Season 2 just patched in with a ton of content updates. Yes they have micro-transactions and some people don't like that but so do most other game including WoW. STO is still a great casual MMO with an active player base.
Its funny to see the haters say Cryptic is doing this as desperation.
Leeta being added was a result of fan REQUEST. There was a large demand on the official forums for her. When we heard they were adding a Dabo mini game, the first thing we asked for was at least a Leeta voice-over for the game, and that spun into a NPC of her being added to. All because of fan demand.
And yes, Season 2's update added a TON of shit. Level cap increased, new ships, tons of new PvE content, more PvP tweaking, new ways to level up (Diplomacy), etc
While the game was lack luster upon release, they are slowly polishing it up very nicely.
Well, from seeing it actually in-game, I can safely say a few of you guys are just flat-out wrong. First, it wasn't difficult to get Chase to do the voice overs; she was pretty eager to be a part of it. Second, there's no buying anything for it, it's in the game for everyone. Third, The 'hologram' has no more sex appeal in her physical appearance than the other NPCs. This was added because the fans wanted it and it made sense. Whether this was a desperate ploy or not is a matter of opinion, but the game is going strong and growing, despite any 'hater's' desire to insist otherwise. The numerous additions in Season 2, Leeta being only one of those, are showing a huge improvement in the game and are a sign of great things to come. I agree that the game has many flaws in gameplay quality, and has a lot of work yet to be done; what I completely disagree with is that the game is a failure and destined to die. someone doesn't like the game, feel free; but start dissing it and it's fans and be prepared for a lot of people wanting to shove a bat'leth up your nether regions. Star trek Fans are one of the two most ravenous and dangerous fandoms; Star Wars is, to my knowledge, the only equal in ferocity.
Sure, so you get on a high horse because we express our dislike and view of this game while you come in here and try to denounce whatever others that have a negative view of the game say. Not gonna work bub.
The game was very incomplete and very very light on content at launch. Some gaps have been partially filled, but gaps they still remain. Chase was an awesome decesion, but that dosen't really add much to the game now does it? Sure it's cool to have an actor in the series do voice overs for the game, but the gameplay remains the same and is not really improved by her contributions.
Anyway, I like the addition of her likeness to the game, but all in all... its "meh" in the grand scheme of things as far as the game goes.
Honestly, i've been reading these forums for a very long time. I see posts like this again and again. You claim they're denouncing it, which they are not, they're simplying using their opinion, which is no higher then yours, or mine, or lower. Second of all, you say that, then go on to "dencouncing" what they were saying. I played a bit of the beta, and I remember my complaints I had about the game, the Season Two patch seems to address a few things, and I think I may give it a try once I get some money.
Honestly, I haven't seen the hologram in-game, but considering it hadn't boosted their Maturity rating anywhere, i'd say it's fairly safe to assume they're not boasting sex appeal. If it was truly a fan request, sure, it may do a good job of keeping people playing, but all the same, it is something the fan's want. It's not desperation, it's requested features.
Um, hate to pour water on the snark-fest but I just played Dabo this morning and Leeta's dulcit tones provided the tutorial ... and I've NEVER bought anything from the friggin store

Id rarther have a good game than a bunch of devs chatting up the game on some forums.

Then maybe you should find one and stop trolling. Or better yet just get a life and quit trying to convince everyone that if you don't like something no one should. The fact that different people like different games is no big deal but the people who have obsessed about STO and the perception that they have some special right to decide how the game should have been written are pathetic. I've played many different games and right now the only ones out there I've found I really like are WoW and STO. I've got FFXIV on order but I've never played Final Fantasy before so don't know if I'll like their MMO. But if I don't, I certainly won't spend my time trolling forums trying to convince everyone else they shouldn't like it either.
Most $49.95 computer games give about 50 hours of play time to complete the game. Most of the people complaining about STO not having enough content took at least one character to the top level (RA 5). As others have said, to take a character to the Rear Admiral 5 level takes 6 to 7 'days' on average. Days being 24 hour periods which means these people spent 140 to 175 hours playing the game. About 3 times more content then is in the average computer game. Since the game comes with 30 days of free play time if you don't find anything at end-game you want to do you simply don't subscribe to the ongoing MMO. So most people will definitely get their money's worth out of STO, especially since Season 2 that was launched July 27 added additional levels.

STO is still a pile of shit. Pretty much a ghost town. Ya all 400 or so of the players requests is what the Dev's are listening to.
