Observations of WAR after going from f2p trial to sub

I really thought the game was fun (and still do to some extent). But the class imbalances were amazing. As a shaman I was almos indestructible at times, and when fighting against a steelbreaker with the melee healing class (forget name), 5 of us could barely put a dent in them. I know that beats the WOW pvp 2-shot and dead concept (which is so not fun).

PVE questing past tier 1 was a complete headache. If you are a trial player and then go to tier 2 good luck ever seeing players, and with how fast some spawn rates are it is ridiculous.

Basically (just like AION), this game is fun and beautiful, but it was only built for release it seems. Meaning there is no consistent action at lower levels (argue all you want, but on badlands server in the tier 2 pve area, I swear I saw 2 other players in 2 days).

I know only going to tier 2 may not seem like much, but it was enough for me to see this game is going no where. Basically, there is no need for the re-spawn rates to be so fast anymore since there is hardly any leveling at lower PVE areas, but it still remains the same almost 2 years later. And again the class imbalances were amazing.

So in my opinion enjoy the ftp trial, and sub for one month like I did, and you will be done (unless you are a big PVPer and find a good guild) .... but the PVP for me was ruined by significant class imbalances (and again I rarely died as a shaman, so I was not frustrated).

There are no class imbalances, only players who can't understand the rock/paper/scissors concept, the roles of each class on both sides, and how to use that knowledge to their advantage.

It's called an Ironbreaker, the "steelbreaker" class you were fighting against. The Ironbreaker is the best damage mitigating tank in the game, so beating on him is rather pointless when he's receiving heals. I'm guessing the other was a Warrior Priest which has the ability to throw around average heals (mostly HOTs) during combat, as their power is fueled by combat.

Lets see the situation, you (a Shaman) + 5 others (likely an estimation on your part) vs. an Ironbreaker (tank) and a Warrior Priest (Melee/Healer). Given those numbers, any reasonable person wielding a brain would have gone straight for the Warrior Priest (heals) and left the Ironbreaker (tank) until the heals were dealt with. Also given that you said there were 6 of you, I see no reason why you wouldn't have been able to take down a single player relatively quickly, even a Warrior Priest, unless they were significantly higher level than you.

Combat is generally 50% using your head, and 50% using your abilities.

Sounds like your team lacked the "head" component and the other had an abundance of both.

You're correct about the population drop-off after Tier 1 and in some cases Tier 2, but class imbalance is quite non-existent if you understand the roles of each class and base your actions on that knowledge.

That is crap info to give. There is no rock/paper/scissors in WAR.

There is no class balance, because class balance is for 1vs1, and there is no 1vs1 in WAR.

Classes are balanced for RvR. So, it is quite possible for what the op described to happen. Alot.

Every 1vs1 or even small scale pvp, you find in WAR is broken. You have tank + healer, oposite doenst? You win. Period.

Also, you seem to be lacking the most important info to explain why 5-6 people could not kill 2.

True, healer should had been the main target for them, but if the tank is using the -50% dmg buff thingie (cant recall names on those spells...) that healer is unkillable, even 5 people hiting him... Especially if it is a WP (or DoK).

You also dont seen to have fought many lonely WPs/DoKs in high RR gear... 1, alone, can survive 5 people beating him up, enough to run off and find help. (conditions apply, if 2 WH/WE were on him, things might been diferent...)

Botton line is: yes... classes are completly unbalanced, for 1vs1, small scale.

    Hell... even in rvr...

I couldn't disagree with the classes being unbalanced more....

Having just recently stopped playing *again* (getting 3 characters to 40 in under a month this time.. archmage, warrior priest, and shadow warrior), I can't argue enough just how balanced the classes are.  Honestly, 90% of the complainers have never reached t4 pvp.  Every class has a specific role to play.  Why do you think there are so many pre-made groups?  I'll tell you... because they have the correct classes for the puzzle.  For instance... take a knight of the blazing sun, a shadow warrior, a brightwizard, an engineer, a runepriest, and a archmage... they will annihilate you.   Now on the other hand.. a chosen, a black orc, sorceror, magus, zealot, disciple of khan and you're getting almost identical results.  Take out one piece of that puzzle.... not so much.  For a game designed to utilize this style, they do an amazing job balancing... Amazing.  It's only the misinformed, unexperienced, and duelist mentally challenged that think otherwise.  If anything... warhammer's one saving grace is the balance.  Running a pug is like playing a game of texas hold'em and thinking the guy across the table is on your team!

Orders were made OP on purpose to make more ppl play Orders and there was no rock paper scissor.

warhammer is not a F2P game in any way.

i cannot understand why the f2p fanatics take anything that is offerd for free and slap the f2p label on it, cheer and high five their free loading friends like they accomplished something.......

trial lasts for 10 levels, you cant even equip the good equipment during this time, you cannot move off the one map.

f2p would entail that the whole game is free, or everything is availiable free untill a certain point.  warhammes trial is neither.

this is still a p2p game by all accounts.

however you can have a good deal of fun in the trial.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The OP has no idea what he is talking about either...... the reason his shaman was indestructable some times, and unable to do anything others is based on his teamates spam healing him or letting him die.  Class imbalances are non existant when your in a large group, play as a group its how its done right.

T1 is packed, T2 is packed as well (unless you were on a rinky-dink server) T3 i hear isnt so active, but T4 i hear is very active.  Most paying players attempt to get to 40 asap as to enjoy the active t4 activites.

OP....this isnt a 1vs1 wow type pvp game, oh and if you were the self healing DD shaman, as you describe being, then you were a crappy shaman, hands down.  Tally WAR up on the games you failed and and thus hate please.

I haven't played this game for quite some time but i found the first 3 tiers particularly fun for scenarios and the pve grind not so bad, it was until the last tier that the game became a chore. Back then there were lots of imbalance due to Bright Wizards and Sorcs meaning t4 was pretty much deserted even on Dark Crag server but i believe most of that imbalance has been sorted out these days.  If the OP doesn't like tier 2 then that means the game is dead nowadays or it's just not the game for him.

Watching people complain about this games class imbalances and faction imbalances amounts to simply crying that they lost.  play 5 scenarios or RvR on 3 diffrent days.  Each day/scenario will have a diffrent "imbalance issue"  this is 100% dependant on which side wins, and what classes they have.

For instance, on destruction, we get stomped in RvR for hours.  Engineers on order are OP is why, "they are better than the magus anyway"....  Not only that but they have better healers and more utility. Order is OP by design.

Next day, destruction rules the RvR, it is because we have more spike DD classes and order cannot compete, destruction is therefore OP and order cannot compete.

Now a scenario, lucky you team order your against an all DoK destruction team, you rape them, order is OP, you see that same DoK group in RvR, and your whole warband is dead before you can cry that DoK are OP.

This over and over and over, if you lose the other team is OP (or hackers!), end of story, no other reasons, its all class imbalance.  Why people dont bother to group up in balanced groups (where shamans are not self healing DD's Mr.OP) ? its easyer to bitch about your loss being a design flaw.

Oh yeah, i forgot, bright wizards and sorcs are OP if you dont kill them, since they have zero survivability and CC and aoe DD.  So yeah let a mage class sit there and aoe bomb you and they are very op (you kill them when you see them problem solved)

fcking every class and every faction is OP (god im so sick of the OP class talk, not just here but every game it seems)

You should learn to comprehend, as I never said the classes in WAR were rock/paper/scissors based to the extent that you took it. I'm referring to the fact that as a player you need to know where to strike first and what target to focus on based on that target's role. It's not crap info, it's the truth.

It's less pronounced in WAR, but if you run into a fight and can't recognize your own strengths and weaknesses, you've already lost the battle. That's what seems to have happened in that situation, they didn't use their head and attack the healer.

6 people (not 5-6, stop trying to lessen the opposition) should have no problem whatsoever taking out two players on equal grounding, no matter the class. This is one of those cases where one side is clueless, and the other had the right idea, thus allowing them to triumph.

    Nothing less, nothing more.

As for my experience, I helped beta test and have been around off/on since launch. I've been in enough fights (T1-T4) to know that for the most part, on equal ground, a smart player wins over a stupid one, no matter the class, not in WAR. The only thing that throws off the balance is the number of players, player level, and player gear (only when there is an extreme difference)... not your "supposed" class imbalance.

Thanks for all the info. Even though it seems small parts were focused on I still understand more now. I believe I played the shaman very well into tier 2 and took care of myself and others. Overall I felt PVP was fine, it was more PVE that I didn't like, and I am a freak for story and PVE lore.

It's probably a *very* good thing you decided not to back your ******** statement up!

I was able to find a picture of you though... enjoy!

    Playing Shaman ?

You should meet Bright wizard. And see how you like to kill yourself while healing.
