It's old, but Asheron's Call, Darktide server is total world pvp, about as hardcore as anyone could want.

heh, wow... I haven't played AC in years. That was such a great game. If I had a gaming wish, it would be to update the graphics engine on that to bring it up to modern standards.
It's not really hard-core that I'm after. Hard-core actually kind of scares me and the reason I haven't gotten into Darkfall before. I just really like the whole city building/siege thing. I'll have to look into Darkfall a little though, maybe check out the free trial. I love skill based systems, but getting looted naked sucks. :P
The thing that makes Darkfall a lot easier then it sounds is the amount of loot you get off of mobs and other players. I even ran in to someone in the first couple days that handed me 8+ bags of armor, weapons, gold, reagents, a mount, and crafting supplies, just being nice to a newbie. About a quarter of the people I ran in to were more then willing to help out someone new, and some of the other newbies I met helped watch each other's backs while hunting. Things are very easy to come by once you get used to the way the game works, so you just bank often and only carry what you need for the current trip out of town. It's really trivial what you lose in death imo.
The grind is the worst thing about it though. You have to kill thousands and thousands of mobs to level up your skills. It does get old after awhile, but compared to other grinders I think it's a pretty fun MMO. The world is huge and fun to explore, and combat is more like a FPS then a traditional MMO so combat is not your typical just watching your character slowly kill mobs all day.
I've been playing it the past couple days and not sure I'm going to stick through the 14 day. It's got some pretty bad bugs right off the bat that the devs are taking their sweet time fixing. Some of the features of that game aren't exactly my cup of tea either.
I've heard Age of Conan has some good PVP stuff later on in the game with sieges and stuff. Anyone able to speak on that?

Get in a guild. Darkfall becomes exponentially better once you are in a guild.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein "Graphics are often supplied by Engines that (some) MMORPG's are built in" - Spuffyre

I fumbled through the Clan thing and applied to NEW. Someone told me they were great for newbs because they help teach people the game. Was going to work with that and see how it goes.

How's the leveling speed and game play in Darkfall? I haven't really checked it out...
Is it a total grindfest, or is it actually fun to level up?
Skillbased system right?
Are you pretty much doomed to constant gankings until your max level, or can you have some fun leveling up?
Thanks
