I never played GW1 and have been slightly following GW2. I really like the way the game looks and some of the features have me intrigued also.

what is it about GW2 that has got you so interested?

pretend you are GW2 and I am a prospective buyer.....why should I buy GW2?(when it releases of course)

Well...it's not really my job to make you want to buy, but I can share with what I am interested in.

The "dynamic" quest system sounds extremely interesting, especially if it turns out to be Public Quests on crack and/or if my actions can really impact my immediate environment. The class videos that I have seen have me interested too, although I really hate the stupid voice acting.

The visuals are extremely appealing as well, both quality and style. Plus, even though it's done to death, I do prefer fantasy based MMOs.

    1) pay only ONCE, no montly fees, no worry with your CC, or ICC (with gives and EVEN bigger headache)

2)GW has one of the best PVP systems around, now in gw2 expect it even more improved.

    3) BUY ONCE.

    4) get the amazing gameplay of gw now put it in a open world, with EVEN better gfx.

    4) BUY BOX ONLY

    5) new featurs such a dynamic event, housing, pesonal story line that may be a breath of fresh air in the mmo industry.

    6) damn cheap, buy only once, no need to "oh noes must play 20h this weekend or i would be wastin money", NO, just keep it stand by and play once and then with you current P2P main mmo.

well that are my reasons? FANBOY`D much? :)

    now: GW2 (11 80s).
    Dark Souls 2.
    future: Mount&Blade 2 BannerLord.
    "Bro, do your even fractal?"
Recommends: Guild Wars 2, Dark Souls, Mount&Blade: Warband, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

GW2 is a persistant world that changes as you play because of the Dynamic Events, towns may be taken over by enemy NPCs, Fortresses may be taken by players, the world will change and be shaped differently in every server because of this. There are litterally a thousand + events currently in the game and they connect. Lets say you take a fortress, the enemies that used to reside there will try to take it back. You can then push them back further and further. Or lets say a drake is eating all the fish in a river, then the NPC merchant that sells fish won't have any until you kill that drake.

There is also the Personal Story, which starts with a biography of about 10 questions with 3-5 answers each that shape your character. You go into instanced areas to complete parts of your personal story and the choices you make changes the story itself and have consequenses.

Because of the unique skill system of GW2, you can pick up objects in the enviroment and they change your first 5 skills on your 10 slot skill bar. These Environmental Weapons include boulders, bits of wood, drakes eggs, flaming swords, banners, and other things. Some of them even have unique actions based on your class.

Each profession has a unique mechanic to them, the Elementalist can change her skills in the middle of the battle via the attunement system, fire, air, water, and earth, the elementalist deals death with all of them, and they each have their own unique abilities and powers. Warriors have adrenaline that increases their damage as they fight, and they can release it all in one large burst skill that has extra effects based on how much you have. Rangers have pets that have skills of their own, and using an elite skill you can bring 3 pets out at once.

There is no Tank/heal/dps in GW2, instead its delegated into control, damage, and support. Control deals with cc and basic denial of your enemy, damage can be dealt in multiple ways with varying effects, and support largely includes damage mitigation and prevention, with a side of healing.

WvW PvP includes 3 servers pit against eachother to fight it out for a week.

I think that covers most of it...

Like someone else said, I don't work for the company and I've never played the game, so I can't really begin to try and convince you why you should play the game. On top of that, I wasn't a huge fan of GW1. I will however, list a couple of reasons why I'm excited about it:

    1) No subs ( I believe)

    2) Good graphics

    3) No other current games I am interested in (although FFXIV is coming out before GW2)

    4) apparently a persistent world with more levelling and PVE than GW

    5) Hopefully decent PVP and PVE experience

    6) Some decent looking character classes and races

    7) Looks like they're put some work into the lore

    8) Some interesting ideas on how quests and events will work

What I don't like about it:

    a) Character development/skill system (the card-based system)

Really it was the absence of  (4) and (a) that stopped me playing GW.

I will probably pick it up, but it will have to compete with FFXIV and SWTOR for my attentions. If it doesn't have subs it will be a good backup game for me.

No sub but you have to pay for each major patch, I believe. It's about $5 per patch.

Where in the world did you find this information?

They don't charge for patches, they will charge for additional expansions just like in the first game.

I never played GW, either, but I hear a lot of positives about what the makers/devs did with it. Bodes well for 2.

Ok, why I'm personally interested in GW2 (best to last):

    1) WvWvW (3 servers PvP open world) that alternates and rebalances servers to fight each other - magic.

    2) Combat: 1 Reduction in emphasis on healer (always thought there was something flawed about this special class tbh) 2 Damage, Control, Support emphasis in combat should aid group play and aid balancing across the board also and be more fun again what I've gleaned this is v promising. 3 Death downed mechanic is interesting, would prefer harsher penalty for death maybe tho. 4. Skill system from vids so far (if it works) takes MMO bashing to a higher level of visual feedback.

    3) Graphics/Classes/World-building are standard fantasy but compensated with very strong graphics and detailed differences between classes.

    4) Story: Personal and Global stories for each player with an increased dynamic questing system sound good but will be impressed if they pull it off. But a step in the right direction at least.

Why you should buy GW2 at this moment:

    a) Pay Once b) Most Innovative combat. c) If you like pvp. d) Immersion you'd expect for an mmo with graphics/art and story-driven. e) Point me to an MMO that is comparable? Even SWTOR which wll be successful will probably diverge in gameplay from GW2 and be a v different experience.

    never played GW1 (before...)

I got hooked after reading about dynamic event system..

since then I loved every new feature they announced (and I started playing GW1 for the lore)

I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them

GW1 had THE best competitive PvP in the genre with tournaments and real-life prizes, very good and tactical combat system, decent story and it also had challenging missions PvE wise before they had to ease them up a bit because some people thought they were too hard. Nowadays if people want hard PvE, they can choose the hard mode.

Plus the no-grind-mentality throughout the game.

For me it boils down to this. GW2 is doing what MMO's should be doing. From focusing on fun instead of some mythical carrot meant to keep you grinding all the way down to the pricing. I buy the game, I play the game for as long as I want with no additional fee's unless I feel like purchasing the expansion. GW2 is one of very few themepark games to ever have me excited. The way groups can interact and the fact that it has a more interactive world than we have seen in MMO's thus far adds more reason to go with GW2. The dynamic question that will scale with the number of people participating making it so that it's viable to solo, small group, duo, or full group. It caters to more play styles.

Thats probably just me though lol.

The fact that Guild Wars 1 had some of the best structured PvP I'd ever had the pleasure of expierencing. So on that note, I'm excited to see their take on open world PvP. If they apply this to open world PvP in GW2, then we might see some of the best large scale PvP not seen since Daoc.

    Looking forward to it.

GW1 have great programming and the only fair PvP experience I played.  It also have q great aggro system.

The best reason to buy it is because it is different (and have no monthly fees). If you want the same old there is zillions of games out there but few try something different and even fewer competent.

I am tired of the same combat I saw in Meridian 59, I want something new and fun. GW1 already had a different combat style but the game was made on a very low budget (ANet had just quit from Blizzard and had not that much money, a full MMO just costed too much).

There are other interesting games in development too, but GW2 has the most experienced team and the story is written by a very competent writer instead of the morons who usually writes the crappy stories most MMOs have.

And the Dynamic world of course.

why buying gw2? One word - legendary!

  • VaettirVaettir Member Posts: 68

Because the price model, in addition to being cheap and reasonable, prevents the developer from merely creating a time-consuming grindfest, and ensures that they have a game that's worth playing the whole way through, not just a fantastical 'endgame' meant to keep you subscribing for as long as possible.

And because Arenanet has a reputation for great gameplay, great art, and a location firmly 'outside of the box'.

Cause they prooved themself in GW:

    1. Interesting PVE.

    2.  Polished release and polished game.

    3. No gride for PVP (you dont need to get to level 80 to konw it sux).

    4. Deep PVP (guild Vs guild) game with a great matching system and balanced characters.

    5. No monthly.

I just don't understand why people who liked GW are interested in this game.

You'll have 4 slots on your skillbar.  Four.  That's all.  Out of the 10 slot bar, 5 are pre-assigned by your weapon, one is preset as your heal.  Where is the joy in customization?  Where are those great pvp days, working out just the right build?  Cookie cutter taken to a whole new leve.

GvG is promising to be...bad.  No dedicated healer class?  DPS (or spike) your target down, then next.  No way can they outheal themselves when under focus fire.

I was so enthused, yet the moreinformation  they release, the less I see any reason why ANYBODY would play it.

  • WreckoniingWreckoniing Member UncommonPosts: 279

@ honkie, Because people like me are actually excited about the direction that gw2 is going in.

Makes no sense to seel it for you play GW for a lil while and I think youll kinda get the idea if why we wouldnt mind a second installment. to lots the first plate of food was pretty good so lets have another is my mindset.

I guess the first one wasnt bad enough... /shrug

I hated it, free to play never live up to standards, this shouldnt be considered an mmorpg.

and NCsoft well its NC soft enough said there.

  • OmgZombiesOmgZombies Member Posts: 141

NCsoft has nothing to do with guild wars' development.  In my opinion Guild Wars 1 was better than any other MMO I've ever played, not because it's free, either.  I would of gladly payed $15 a month back in the day.  Once you get past the lack of jumping the lots of instancing, it's actually a much better design imo.  Especially when you're talking about the pve.

     Not another one of these.....

It is not free 2 play, it is BUY 2 play, you still have to purchas ethe game ther eis just no monthly sub, learn the difference.

Yes GW1 was not considered a full MMORPG, the devs themself have said that. have you bothered to spend even 5 minutes reading any article, threads, anything at all about GW2? It is different from GW1 in a lot of way, including being a full blown MMORPG.

NCsoft is NOT making the game, they are only the publisher and have very very little influence over the development of the game. Arenanet is the developer. Publisher =/= Developer... again learn the difference.
