Just to start some discussion, what MMO games which ceased to exist do you miss? Did you find that some of them had nice aspects which could help current games?
I sort of liked Earth and Beyond. The story was starting to get really interesting, and then it just stopped. Sort of simple too, i guess

I was just getting to like wish when i heard they pulled the plug.
Kind of annoying.
Yes, Wish was MMORPG that I imagined I could have spent my next 5 years in...like I spent in UO...
also UO2 naturally...it's cancel was the biggest loss for MMORPG community.
Multiplayer Battletech 3025 - By EA
Was about to go final when their limited liscence to produce BattleTech expired and reverted to Micro$oft. Micro$oft refused to allow them to renew the license.... thus the game was cancelled just as it was about to hit the market.
*sighs*
And unfortunately Micro$oft doesnt' seem to have any plans to produce an MMO version of BattleTech under their own liscence... they just keep coming out with XBox Titles for it.
MPBT3025 was true to the BattleTech Universe and was breathtaking in the scope of it's ambition. It had issues that some in the MPBT community (which has been around since around 1990 on the GEnie network) had with it but they were working on those items too. Just a shame all around.

More specifically the very early days of MCO and durign the Beta when all the cheating wasn't as rampant as it was towards then end.

Hell most of the MMOs out now are pretty much crap. Just imagine how bad the ones they cancel are. (Example: Wish) That game needed some serious work.

I was definetly looking forward to wish. I played it in one of it's early beta tests , about 2 years ago, and it was awesome. Dunno why they pulled the plug!
*EDIT* Earth and Beyond was awesome too!
True Fantasy Live Online for xbox..... I played Wish for like 5 mins, I got on took forever to get on, had to go somewhere, by the time I got back, I was at some place, and then I got to a town, got really laggy, decided I will play it later, then like 2 days later, it gets cancelled.... So I cannot speak for it really. But TFLO!!!!!!!!!!
There was another topic like this a while back.

UXO and Mythica. I really wanted to play UXO. It looked like it was going to be a hit. Mythica was just something new and different.
I also miss EverQuest the way it was before Luclin, but that's a different topic altogether

Old timer.
I feel much like you do toward EverQuest...Luclin killed it for me. The worst part about Luclin is the Bazaar.

2) Earth and Beyond
3) Dragon Empires
4) Mythica as well, looked new and impressive.

Wish and UO2.
UXO looked like it was going to be trash.

Listen Asmodeeus, seven years ago, Ultima Online didn't even have those pathetic "quests" that you refer to or those "professions" of ninja, samurai, necromancer, and paladin. Nor did it have any of the neon crap, or bug mounts. It didn't even have any "combat moves." You turned on attack and jousted with simplistic swings. It was a better game then. if you can't guess why then just uninstall the thing and move along. - Crabby

UXO...the plans to actually incorporate some SKILLS into battle rather than the amount of time you put into your character...would have been awesome
EDIT: forgot what I was writing halfway through, fixed.

My god, are they running the site off a 300 baud modem? I tried to hit it just now and it's taking forever for the page to load. You sure they released the source code? Last time I checked in on IS3025's site they were still trying to get their game set up to use the MWIV engine... MPBT3025 didn't use any of the MechWarrior engines, it had it's own and was 100% web based, you didn't even need a CD it was a download.

----ITS A TRAP!!!----
It's obvious that "Wish" is #1 (and the only, actually) on my list. But I just wanted to comment on this. Wish did need quite a bit of work, but I think mostly people were turned off by the PnC and the economy which wasn't working properly. If those two things had been different in the original development concept I'd say that "Wish" would still be around today. Perhaps Lepidus can comment on how accurate he thinks this is?
On a related note.. I don't like most of the MMO's out there right now, but "crap" is a little bit more than a statement of opinion. Anyhow.. the things I find lacking are what people are used to, and like it or not.. most people get stuck in the same game concept, and are put off by anything new. That's why most games out right now are nearly carbon copies of each other. There's very little change involved in the overall concept of them. It's the reason, in my mind, that some of us will never find our "perfect game" - because it won't make it out onto the market, like "Wish" was for many of us on this board.
I do like GW though (even though that's not on topic at all), now that I'm more of a casual player. It's not similar to Wish at all, really, but for those of you who are still looking for a home after the "Wish" debacle.. give it a shot. If you can get past the cookie-cutter levels (although there is some customization with attributes and spells) and lack of crafting.. you might enjoy it! I have a strange desire to find homes for my old Wish comrades.
