I always buy and sell stuff in beta. Why? Because many of those other players doing so in beta are going to be the first ones subscribing, and they're going to be the initial seeders of the economy. So by buying and selling in beta, I can get a feel for what is going to be hot or not when the game goes live and get a jump on the money train.

Why not? Your whole job in beta is to test out all functions in the game to make sure they work right including selling and buying. I would rather a bunch of people playing beta selling stuff and find any problems then than i find them later after i payed money to play the game and lose some items or money some were over some error missed...
Whats the point of playing beta and not trying out everything?
I challenged my reflection to a staring contest....4 days later i won
The thing that makes me laugh in almost every beta I have been in is people sell stuff for outrageous amounts....yea like that's gonna happen in a beta =.=

oh god...nerd alert
Spotting a nerd on a forum about MMOs is like spotting a hooker in a whorehouse.
Take it you don't understand that many players are actually testing the beta properly and are selling things to fund their crafting too, its not cheap.
This last phase of beta was focused on crafting and you hand to make money somehow, and believe it or not there are many players that will never draw a weapon and fight and would rather sit back in town and sell their wares, doing harvesting Guildleves and eventually hire other players to escort and protect them while they harvest nodes in dangerous areas with monsters that would aggro and kill them.
Crafters also have the option of charging for armor repair as a means of funds too, as there will be a ton of players that won't do crafting to the point where they can repair.
I think what all fails to see is that when you store your trash items you get the option to leave your retainer standing there like a mule selling stuf, wich is great. While you continue doing whatever you whant.Lets say i was grinding and got 100 earth cristals , they npc sell for nothin , so i just put them on retainer and put them on sell ,doesnt mean anyone would buy them in beta , but still im testing the sistem.
1 thin i do have a complain about is i do hope they have some kind of world search when buying /selling stuf kinda like the AH in 11. I do not whant to have to go browse every single retainer to get the stuf i whant lol.

Ummm...The point of a beta is to test every facet of the game. This includes the selling/trading system. You may be treating the beta as a free to play session, but others are actively trying to find bugs so that the game launches primarily bug free. Maybe we should be the ones LOL'ing at you.

Wouldnt that go equally for the people that buy stuff in beta?
Actually both could claim that they were just testing the trading system.
Nothing wrong with that :-)
some ppl enjoy selling than lvling up.
Why even play, if you know someday you will die or the servers will be shutdown and you will lose all your progress?
Same logic, just stretched it a bit
but it is a little much to sell when the possibility exists

Says the guy who come to the forums on mmorpg.com to start a thread about... people doing stuff in an MMO.
obvious troll is obvious?
Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.
I LOL @ people who don't realize that the marketplace is an element that needs to be tested just as much as combat.
Like someone mentioned earlier, there's some primary intelligence gathering and probing going on as well.
Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
Hm...
Isn't the point of beta to find problems? What if there was a problem with trading in some way, or the auction house? People need to test all avenues!
You are in the beta to test (and try for free of course) the game, and testing the game includes the trading system.
I LOL @ people who are concerned with what others are doing that does not concern them.
Cheers!
MMO Vet since AOL Neverwinter Nights circa 1992. My MMO beat up your MMO. =S
yup

Almost right.
We are not looking out for bugs. That's something SE does by themselves.
We test the mechanics and game design, and look for inconveniences and annoyances that need changing or additions.
