Hey folks. I decided to give EQ2 another try and made a char on Faydark. At first I was very pleased with the game, but later on, after i hit level 11-12 I went out into commonlands and thats when problems started sinking in... I couldnt find a group.
Quests are fine but finding NPCs who give quests in Commonlands is a pain, finding them again for reward is even greater pain. Some people complained about WoW having exclamation marks above NPCs that have quests available for me, and quest describtion almost always gives detailed location of the NPC who I need to return to after finishing my quest. Not in EQ2, and thats very frustrating. One day, I spent around 3 hours running around freeport trying to finish off some delivery quests.
So now im stuck, i dislike questing becuase its tedious and time consuming. The only option is left - grinding, and i hate that too. Grouping seems to be hard, I spent about 2 hours advertising my services in commonlands, no luck.
Any suggestions? hints? What am I doing wrong? Appreciate any help.

I have two links that could help you with questing.
First is a EQII map site that shows npc locations ect. http://www.gry-online.pl/eq2/maps.asp?ID=11
Second has lists of EQII quests. Just go down the left side to the quest part and select adanced search http://eq2.ogaming.com

Thanks for your info. I will check both of those sites later when i getb ack from work. I do have EQ2Maps, so it helps a lot, but if im looking for a specific NPC, i cant switch to a different zone map to see if hes there. Those sites should help me do that.

Go back to playing WoW.
You answered your own question, not so subtly, by praising WoW's quest system over EQ2's.
Finding groups in WoW is much easier especially with the addition of gathering stones in front of dungeons.

Well if you don't like questing or "grinding" (by which I assume you mean pursuing exp to level up), it's hard to see how this game is going to work for you. For a game to work for someone it's critical that they enjoy the basic activities that the game is about.
As far as grouping, I don't really know the Freeport side much since I only have one toon over there and I always solo him. On the Qeynos side I've never had any problem finding groups ... usually I get a lot of tells for groups while I am doing other things or already grouped. On either side, you certainly don't have to rely on Commonlands or Antonica ... there are the zones accessed from the city zones ... I forget the names of the Freeport ones at the moment, but when I go to them thats another place I usually get invited to groups.
If you like to be in high demand for groups most of the time, make a toon in a class that's in high demand. It does vary a lot from class to class. Honestly, my Templar gets endless invites, and, FWIW, he can solo like a champ too.
In any event, you certainly don't have to group all the time. There are endless solo opportunities now. Sure, some things require grouping, e.g., the level 20 armor quests, but it's generally easy to find others who need to do those things too. But unlike some other games, this game does require some grouping ... most people get involved in a guild.
As for finding things for the city quests, the quest journal tells you where to go and once you're in the right city zone you can ask guards to point out the NPC. As you get higher level, yes the quests become more difficult, and that trend will continue. The sites that Hyoukan linked will help you a lot, and, of course, Allakhazam also has innumerable quest spoilers. No, it's not as easy as WOW ... what is. But it certainly isn't very difficult. If "easy" is what someone seeks, neither EQ is the place.
I can't really tell what you do like from your post, but you may ultimately be better off with something like Guildwars ... very good game with constant action and little emphasis on leveling.
I dont like giving up when i hit one rock. Im trying to find a compromise to keep my interest in EQ2. I really like EQ2 combat and I like group comabt in EQ2. But if it will be so hard to find a group at lower levels or if I wont find a way to ease up my pain in questing, navigation and grinding then I will definitely switch back.

Take your best shot then. For a starter, move to the Qeynos side ... there are simply a lot more people on the good side. If you like lots of people around constantly, you might also want to move to one of the heaviest population servers. Mine, Mistmoore, is extremely busy. And there are other extremely busy servers. If you like to be invited to group all the time, make a priest class ... just be prepared for the fact that your primary job in groups is healing, slowing, etc. If you don't want to heal, your next best bet is a pure tank, i.e., a Guardian or Pally or similar class.
Good luck
Edit: Oh yeah Join a big active guild. Get involved
My char is on Faydark, i dont know how heavily it is populated. My character is a level 12 cleric, so im supposed to be wanted by groups. I can solo well, but id rather not to. I already have a guild, but its small, its my old EQ1 guild so im not gonna leave them.
Are there any particular zones where groups are more common and where I would have more chances to get into one?

Hey Jimmyman
Yes, all of the servers are well populated right now. As of late night Faydark regisdtered as medium load.
For the commonlands, I would suggest you to solo until lvl 15. By doing the quests, you will level very fast. Also, the good news is that Clerics can solo very well. You can easily solo a creature that is Orange conned to you (3-4 levels higher than you)...no other class can do that.
When u hit around lvl 15 people will start to send you private messages since you are a cleric. When you turn lvl 20, you'll receive so many tells you'll probably set yourself up as anonomous.
On one server I have a Templar. I usually solo (since I can solo orange conned MOBs) but if I wanted to party I click the LFG ....about 30 seconds later Ill get plenty of tells.
Since you are only lvl 12..I would recommend soloing. If you use your heals right and your heroics, you should be fine. When you get the spell Vitae (the spell that gives you health when you are suppose to sustain damage....for example if an Orc whacks you for 100 points of damage, you'll instantly be healed for 100 points of heal points....and depending upon your level of that spell {apprentice, adept, etc} it'll stay on you for a little while...and it cost virtually nothing to cast.
Stay away from group mobs (priests arent good group fighters)...but you can take on powerful single MOBs with ease....and a little later in your level youll get so many invites it'll make your head spin
P.S. With the vitality XP bonus, you'll lvl like mad. The Templar i have is lvl 25 and I've been casually playing him for a week now. (Casually meaning 2-3 hours a day). Despite the "popular rumour" If you do the quests in the commonland while hunting, there really isn't a huge grind. EQ2 has the least grind out of all the games I've played (for the exception of SWG, Anarchy Online, and City of Heroes)

Thnx for the info. I do have that spell that heals me each time i get hit. I can solo very well, i try to stay away from oranges cuase if they resist too much i end up spending a lot of power finishing them off. Its good to hear that I will be in demand in higher levels, I only hope i can last that long. I only found like 3 quests that are to kill mobs of my level in commonlands (ive got some quests to kill snakes and armadillos just outside, but those are grey to me). Are there more quests to get and where can i get them? I finished 2 quests killing death orc scouts and warriors, im finishing up ghostly orc quest and thats it as far as I know. I couldnt find any quests for skeleton orcs or for those dogs that laugh funny when i strike them. I found a little camp in the middle of Commons, andi got one quest from there i think. I will try those two sites that were posted before, maybe that will help me with quest NPCs find so that should ease up my leveling pain.
I dont want to give up EQ2 yet becuase EQ2 is suprisingly strong in some fields (graphics, groups when I did join them, combat) and suprisingly weak in others (navigation, zoning, map layout, questing).
Thnx again for help.

Oh yeah. You wont have to worry about Quests.
By the time I was lvl 15, I had to delete many of the starter town quests because I was getting too many Antonica Quests.
As you lvl throughout the commonlands, you'll receive various Quests found in chests, come across NPCs that will give you quests (virtually every single NPC you see in the commonlands are quest enabled...you just need to meet the right circumstances for them to offer you anything.
Just keep on doing the green quests....you'll still get some XP and money. You'll eventually have a ton of Commonlands quests. There are tons in the Commonlands dungeon (FallenGate), a bunch in Crossroads, you have the carrion pups one (quest is found in the boat on the pond overlooking the carrion dogs), you have the Tower quests (near fallengate), you have plenty of undead quests...a whole slew of quests in the Orc Cave (Wailing Caves if I remember it right).
Don't worry, there are 1000s of quests.
When you get the hang of it you'll find navigation to be very very easy, and the quests are highly detailed...just take a look in your journal.

YAY! yesterday was a great day for me, i turned LFG on and in a matter of 5 mins i had a group of 2 guys and we ROCKED! 2 levels later we went into wailing caverns and I had a blast! Cant wait for today evening when i come back from work. Grouping realy kicks ass in EQ2

Wailing Caverns is an instance in WoW.

And Wailing Caves(not Caverns!) is in EQ2. Really, devs of both games could've been more creative with naming.
i think he means Wailing Caves which is a zone off of Commonlands.
Schutzbar - Human Warrior - Windrunner Alliance - World of Warcraft
Nihilanth - Kerra Paladin - Blackburrow - EverQuest II
XBL Gamertag - Eagle15GT
you can find Crossroads in WoW too:) anyway Commonlands zone is very similar to WoW's Barrens (bad side, XR, safari etc.:))
