All the archer videos I've seen, including yours, the archer fights the mobs at melee range. Do archers get any abilities to put some distances between them and their enemies (at higher levels maybe)?
My second question is regarding mobs fleeing in the middle of the battle, is this a bug or is it intended? It seems like they stop attacking and run around, even though their health is high still.
Is it me or did he get regular experience points for crafting? If thats true then that means someone can level up simply by doing crafting which is epic in my books. People won't have to fight to progress in levels. Good show roc. And nicely done SE.

He did mention in his Gladiator video that the random running around of the enemies without attacking is a bug with the AI.
I'd love more videos with commentary too. Really helps tell us what's going on for those of us without first-hand experience.

Someone else in Beta said that some mobs purposely run away at low life to get help. Guess we'll find out next month ;D
Oh, and awesome vids! I subbed. Can't wait to see fishing and cooking.

While you obviously can't experience the entire game as a crafter, unless they really do become helpful classes to group with(not just to steal skills off of for your main combat class), I thought it's been stated you could go through the whole game just as crafting class, I take that to mean money/physical level atleast.
I have a question about something like mining or the woodcutting, if I can get this answered. You do the first aim on the line, then you let the little circle/radar looking thing charge and stop it when you want. The second part, the circle, I get. You stop it, if you get a "close" message you try to stop it slightly smaller or larger or if you get a "nothing" message you really change up where you're stopping it. The first part where you aim on the line, might make more sense if you're in the beta, are you able to actually tell where you should line it up or just doing it at random? I didn't see anything onscreen as an indication, maybe if every time you try to mine you get nothing, you know to do the first aiming part differently?

From what I can tell, it looks like a simple game of Hot and Cold. Still a nice upgrade from the typical click and wait that every other MMO does. Also, the items you get from the nodes aren't just one type, it seems to be a bunch of useful stuff from beechips to crystals to actual pieces of wood, etc. Good stuff. Finally some real depth to crafting and gathering for those days that I feel like doing something BESIDES killing stuff.

Yeah that's what I assume the "aiming" on the line is, I guess, a more general hot/cold meter versus the more specific second part, it's just hard to tell without being able to open any help tooltips or read on the beta site myself. As long as they don't require like 200 pieces of iron to make a level 12 sword, which would take 5 hours to gather it yourself, I like it much more than other systems. I enjoyed the auto-crafting in aion, hitting craft all and having you craft until you ran out of materials, simply because I didn't do anything while crafting anyway it may as well be an automated process. I don't think anyone wants to sit and hit the craft button every 3 seconds when you're expected to do it hundreds of times without any other kind of input.
I wonder if there is stuff you have to group on? Like an ore spot that can only be mined if a group of atleast 3 miners are hitting the spot? Or an item that requires multiple, or 1 each of different, crafters to get something done. Haven't heard much about crafting in FFXIV and have 0 knowledge on XI so those are just shots in the dark I just thought of.

XI implemented group based crafting some time ago, so it wouldn't be too farfetched to see it implemented in XIV some way or the other.
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".
quick question roc about your mining / gathering videos. Do the gathering spots show up if you are a combat class. Basically can you only see mining nodes as a miner and botanist gathering nodes as a botanist.?

You can see them as any class, but gatherers get skills that help them locate said points and only they can mine/log them.

Sweet. I wonder if I'd ever be a hardcore enough crafter to really get into that, but when they're running with "18 classes" and 11 of those are some kind of gatherer/crafter, you expect them to do a lot more than the usual almost afterthought crafting most games add just to make you sink money into something.
*Edit* To clarify, yes I already know some of the enhancements, both from these videos and regular previews/interviews, that these kinds of classes are getting. Lol before it's said, I know it's not like WoW crafting, was just expressing my excitement that they already had group crafting in XI so I expect even more ingenuity in XIV when it comes to crafting.

Show something that is different from FFXI. Not like just a race or something, a different gameplay feature if there are any.
lol no one cares about FFXIV, not after yesterday's news
I think people can just watch from youtube if they want. they dont' really need to request.
