Thanks everyone!!

I started a thread on here a couple weeks back.  I was asking for advice from the mmo community as to which game I should try to get started with my mmo career.  I've really been looking forward to DC Universe Online coming out for my PS3 and it is the first time I've really considered playing an mmo.  The only reason for that is the fact that I've never tried PC gaming.  I thought it would be too much of a hassle and I didn't know if my PC would play games well.  I'm not rich by any stretch of the imagination and I don't really have the money for major video cards or extremely high end PC's.  Anyway, I set up a thread explaining my situation and I was interested in trying out an mmo on my PC and just seeing what happens.  I recieved a lot of advice from you guys on many different titles.  The most common suggestion was World of Warcraft.  I've always been interested WoW.  It was always the game that kind of made me want to try out PC gaming so I went with that.  Best Buy had a 14 day trial period disk for $1.99.  I picked that up and I played the game for 2 days and I immediatly went to the store and bought the full game.  I love it!!  My PC plays it just fine, too.  I'm a nube in that game in everyway possible but I plan on changing that for sure!!  The only problem is I don't even know how excited I am for DC now because WoW so freakin good!!  Oh well, we'll see what happens.  Thanks again for taking the time to assist me and I really appreciated all your advice.  Maybe I'll see some of you online!!

Later.....

I envy you. To find something new and good. *sigh* I miss it. Last time I felt that was with Mass Effect 1.

A lot of us forget how jaded we've become. I remember logging on to WoW for the first time, it being my first MMO. It was amazing.

Being your first MMO, you probably will enjoy it a great deal. Once you get bored with being puppeteered through the game, once you start asking "is there nothing more",come back and join us "whiners".

But enjoy it. WoW is a great game for what it is. And all things considered, outside of EVE which isn't a full MMO since there's no avatar character and no worlds to explore "on the ground", it's by far the best MMO overall. Especially for someone new to the scene.

Now, if someone were to make a sandbox world as well as they made WoW, we'd really have something.

Not at all. I told him to enjoy it. I told him he's playing the best game currently out there. And I told him to come back and join the rest of us when the time is right. Just speaking what is in all likelyhood the truth.

I really appreciate you all getting on here and being really cool.  This is probably the best experience I've had on any forums.  It's nice to see people getting on here and actually having something to say and not just being ignorant.

I appreciate your opinion and I'll look into EVE down the road.  Someone else recommended that to me as well.  My only problem with EVE is I'm not a real big Sci Fi guy.  Also, I want to be on the ground and exploring things.  However, with all of the good press it gets from the fans and critics I will try it at some point for sure.

Oh, gracious, WoW has claimed another victim!!

Grats, though, chum. It's always fun to fall in love with a game.

If you ever want to play in game, just send me a PM and let me know, I'm always up to starting a new charcter, and besides I need to start making friends on MMOs anyway. I always miss out on that.

    Best of luck.

I wasn't recommending EVE, I don't play it myself. Like you, I want the grounded full world game.

Again, enjoy WoW. It does have some really cool things in it. And again, when you start wondering if that's really a world, and why you can't do this or that, then you can start thinking about what WoW lacks and figuring out for yourself what you might wish an MMO was built like.

If you want to get an idea of what a "Sandbox" game is like, check out UO (Ultima Online). Actually, look for private servers that are free to play, because some of them have preserved the old sandbox that UO itself has steared away from. UO, you see, has been taken over by developers who think like all these others, that MMOs should be built like single player games instead of like worlds to live in, and the social aspects that should be in these massive multiplayer games is at it's lowest possible point instead of being a driving force inside their game's world.

Heh, I remember logging into WoW and being completely unimpressed.  Was ready to uninstall the beta and wait for EQ2.  Could be that it was no where near my first MMO.  Fortunately I stuck with the game and it got better.  Of course I eventually got bored with it, but I'm sure the OP will be happy for a long time playing it. :)

well, there goes wow, claiming another virgin in the name of the Bliz Gods. :P

Grouping in Old school mmo's: meeting someone at the bar and chatting, getting to know them before jumping into bed.  Current mmo's grouping: tinder.  swipe, hookup, hope you don't get herpes, never see them again.

The virgins must be sacrificed, or the gods will not give us our daily bread. %
