Sony should never have made EQ2. What they needed to do was make a new engine for the game and it was done.

I dis agree Flex 1,infact you need to actually try EverQuest II out before making that kind of  comment...Because it's totally un-called for and mean

eq2 is a joke compared to EQ graphically imo.   I actually prefer the EQ luclin graphics to the EQ2 default graphics by a long shot.  For me, the only good thing about the pc models for EQ2 are the optional alternate models they added for the asian audience overseas.

EQ with a real graphics overhaul, a decent UI............I might go back to it.

I agree with Flex1, they should have just upgraded the engine, and slowly introduced a few changes, while making a new IP for the EQ2 staff.

Up until just over a year ago when I stopped playing EQ2, I can recall way too many conversations with guild mates about and reminiscing about EQ1. For example, at launch the many conversations about Befallen and Stormhold Keep.

I think there were many of us that were simply looking for a next-Gen MMO using essentially the same map layout.

You know what is so extremely ironic.

This 17th Expansion for EQ1 seems to be far bigger than the new Expansion coming for EQ2.

    Lol. Just lol.  /facepalm

I'll throw my vote in with EQ1 over EQ2. I will absolutely be checking out the new expansion. =)

I gotta say with a few exceptions EQ1 was crap, EQ2 (with a few exceptions) totally rules in comprison. I'm holding out for EQ3 to be better then both yet. Always nice though that both sides can make their opinions known.

I enjoyed both games but I have to agree that the attempt at more realistic graphics in EQ2 just didn't work for me. I found them to be not quite right even though they weren't bad and in fact are better than more than a few games that came after it.

A graphics update certainly would have been a welcome feature though I can understand why Sony probably thought it was easier and cheaper to start from scratch.

I still log on to my EQ toons and chat with old friends while I earn an AA or two and would love to raid again but I doubt that will happen. Still it is nice to see that the game is getting some attention.

I'd like to know where you found those details.  I couldn't find anything official on the Sony Station site nor in the EQ forums other than a generic announcement and a very dark, hard-to-understand YouTube video from a FanFaire panel that sounded vague and had only a few actual screenshots and concept art, and your link - read more at the Everquest site - doesn't go anywhere.  It gives a Page no longer exists error and redirects to MMORPG's homepage.  So from where did you get your info and screenshots?

Thanks for the URL error. It's fixed but the URL above goes directly for the HoT beta registration page.

Generally, we get our news via the press teams from various games, PR firms, etc. This was pretty new as it was announced at this weekend's Fan Faire.

    ^^^ This

I played EQ2 for years and it never ever gained the "feel" of the original.  If I ever do go back to Norrath, it'll be via EQ1.

Thanks for the updated link but it still doesn't give any more details.  That link goes to the beta signup page.  The beta signup page gives a few general features that will be added and a short background paragraph, but there is nothing there giving details like you have listed.  Ah well, I guess I'll wait until they actually post something on the official sites.  I haven't played EQ for quite a few years, but if they really are adding all of that, I may just renew my sub to try to get into the beta and see if it is worth playing again for awhile.

I guess they don't believe something can be too big....but I do and EQ has way too many zones as it is.
