Thanks to everyone who answered my last poll about internet connections. I now need some help trying to figure out what about a mmorpg influences people to buy it. I know there are many reasons, but if you had to choose the single most important aspect to you what would it be? Please vote below. Also, if anyone thinks i've left something out please respond and let me know. Thanks!

All of the above (to some extent)
Graphics: I want good graphics. I have a nice, expensive graphics card, and I want a game that will make use of it's features. On the other hand, I don't want one that gets laggy even with the best cards because it has a crappy engine. Graphics aren't everything, but for me they are an important part of the immersion factor (along with sounds to a lesser extent).
Gameplay: Without it, no game, no matter how pretty, can keep my interest. Gameplay is the backbone. Gameplay goes hand in hand with graphics. Without gameplay, the game is nothing more than a pretty chat room. Without graphics, the gameplay can be excelent, but I could still probably find better gameplay in a text based game or better yet, a pen and paper game. I love DAoC's RvR system, and SWG's crafting system is really good (but could use improvements). I would rather play a full PvE game than full PvP game.
Setting: Not as important, but I prefer fantasy. SWG was great, but it really is more fantasy than sci-fi. Eve was good, but I have liked swords and magic and elves and dwarves since I was a kid.
Story: It is easier to RP if the game has a good story. While I am not a hard core RPer, I do tend to have differing personas for my different characters, and a game without a good story is bland.
Franchise: Not the most important thing, but the SWG world was way cool. The best games I have played though have their own stories (EQ, and to a lesser extent DAoC).
Friends: In the end, a game can have it all, but if my brother or other friends are playing a different game, I will be right there with them. Of course, I have some sway on them too, so it goes both ways.
Reviews: They aren't the most important things, but they often bring out things in the game that you didn't know about before (both good and bad).
Company reputation: With who? Gamers are often whiners. A company that get's whined about the most is only being whined about because people like most of the game but have one problem or another with it. Or they feel they were wronged in some way (how did they know that good online buddy would steal their account and strip it? It must be the company's fault). Of course, there are exceptions, like game devs that start fights with websites over message board trolls.....
Price: Only somewhat important. As long as it falls in line with other games. I don't want to spend too much though, and those frequent expansions better not cost as much as a new game.
Overall, the most important things are: What are my friends playing? Is the gameplay good? Does the game look good and have lots of character customization? Pretty much in that order. So I couldn't pick just one.
My vote isn't even on there. I won't pay money for a subscription based game unless there's a free trial, or I'm able to play beta or play at a friend's house.

Gameplay should trump all, because what's the point of playing a pretty game without anything to do? Or a game that everyone says is awesome but you just sit there and do nothing? Without GAMEplay, games are nothing.
a game with a good gameplay can over come any high end graphic game...i think Face of Mankind has the best gameplay becuase its shhoting is like counter strike
but theres a community where you can do quests..and it totally releys on online players
and since so much online players play the game.

Jumpgate is what got me to pay for the game itself.
It was the most different mmorpg that had skilled based combat system asaide from all the point and clock dice rolling gameplay as such.

Well obviously the gameplay features influence more than anything, but I wouldnt mind seeing a game with everything in that list.
I choose gameplay features because you might have a game with great graphics and low cost, but its not even interesting playing it, so why even pay for it? Most people would agree about this.

Gameplay is at the top of my list when I go looking at a game. Of course genre is tied into that for me.
After that the rest are mixed factors of the options you have listed. Price, features, etc. Something else that I bear in midn though is if my husband also likes it and if we'd play it together.

Gameplay,
The simple question I ask gamers, "How many game's do you have collecting dust on your shelf that you played a few months tops because you got bored quickly?"
The answer is usually shocking when people stop to think about it.
I agree with all of the above. Also, after Horizons, I will not be buying an mmo on its release date since I now require quality player reviews before buying.
