Star Trek Online: Ask Cryptic for August 10th

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Cryptic Studios has published the latest edition of its "Ask Cryptic" series for Star Trek Online. The series is a chance for fans to ask questions and have them answered directly by the development team. This time, questions cover a wide variety of topics from player-generated content to what's happening with the Klingon ships.

Q: Captain_Revo: What is the current situation with new Klingon ships? What new ones are planned and when will we see them, please?

A: We recognize that there is a lack of Klingon ships compared to what Starfleet has available. That is why we are shifting the focus of the Ship building team to creating more Klingon Faction ships. This includes high end versions of the Vor’cha, D7, B’rel, and Raptor as well as Orion, Gorn and Nausicaan ships. In addition, when they have time, the ship team will also be adding more customization options to these ships as well.

Read the entire Ask Cryptic for August 10th.

Nice to see the servers are still up and this co-op online space game still has people playing it.

Q: V-Mink: What are some of your long-term goals for STO? What do you see the state of the game in a year or two?

A: This is an important question because in order for someone to want to play the same game for years to come they have to love the game they are playing and love the direction the game is headed. I see us focusing on ensuring the game stays true to the world of Star Trek. Our long term goal is to focus on developing stories, features, and content that brings more of the Star Trek Universe into the game. Four years from now the people who will be playing this game are those that love this game and love Star Trek.

It has lots of players playing it actually. Its a nice fun game. And Cryptic is really adding lots of content to it lately so plenty of things to do to keep players busy. Both CO and STO are getting very nice content updates.

Well I been watching hoping this game would do something to make its players happy. All I can say is they still not given me any reason to play this game.

I am surprised the servers are still up and running

I was imencely dissapointed with what STO had declined to at release.  its a joke,, a franchise fleecing game like many other star trek games that came before.

I had been watching STO for years with anticipation hoping it would finally be a serious rival to EVE ,, large universe  great content and story  and  casual player friendly.

a place for EVe refugees  but it went to crap and was a shalow hack and slash  missing many things I was looking for in my next game.

at that point i actually have stopped subscribing to MMOs untill there is enough market stress to change that clone making rut they have been in for 15 years.

make a world, not a game, we dont want another game.

XA_Deadhorse had a good question about fixing some of the things in that game up.  After loading up the welcome back weekend and getting into the game the first thing I did was take off to head back to Sol system to start from a central location and low and behold once I made it to the edge of space my ship just kept "running" into the edge of space so about two minutes in I logged out and headed back into LOTRO to do some crafting.  Logged in the next day and the same thing was happening so I figured "oh yeah there is the transwarp button which worked.  Got me a new quest to go help some civilization in need and immediately headed out to help them entered the required zone and a random system since there was no specified system and was greeted with one of the old patrol missions where you beat up on a few patrols then beam into a base or some sort.  And for as bad as being stuck in a place you don't want to be is beaming down on those horrible away missions was worse still very clunky lines and beams shooting out of the toons most of the time.  And I'm just forced to wonder what in the world is Cryptic thinking with these welcome back weekends?  Maybe I'm too demanding but this game right now looks about half way ready for launch.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

I actually almost missed the welcome back weekend. Only read about it here on the site. So I logged in with my klingon char, then my screen was flooded with all the awesome stuff I evidently had unlocked while I didn't play the game for several months.

I decided to enter the pvp queue and have some space combat. In the meantime I got some mission which was actually enjoyable, involving me entering a bathleth tournament and what not. Though performance was sort of worse than what I remembered, even though I recently bought a GTX 460 and I had some weird graphics bugs in the ground portion of the mission.

So I finished my mission, checked out the new ship interior stuff, engine rooms, trophies etc.

About an hour after I had entered the pvp queue, there finally was a popup telling me my match was ready. I got all excited, clicked the button and then.. nothing.

"you are not in a queue" or something like that. After it took an hour to even find a match. So i asked in the zone chat if the pvp queue was broken or something and the response was "no, it does what it's designed to do. but due to whining on the forums matches don't open if teams are not even".

So after this interesting experience, I logged off, uninstalled STO and played Eve instead ^^

But I couldn't resist buying the Targ pet in the C-store. Every klingon should have a personal targ and I wouldn't know what to do with these cryptic points anyway since i got them for free when i bought the game :)

I just want to fly a few of the starships in game.  I guess I'm boring, but the starship featured in this story is so beautiful.  It's my favorite.  Retrofitting ships should be an option.  Some people say it's not realistic since it is an old ship.  Yeah that is true, but still.

I really enjoy STO, IMHO, I run into a few bugs, but that has not curtailed my enthusiasm for the game, as I have seen quick responses to the bugs I have reported. It is a living, evolving environment, I have seen many improvements since beta, many as a direct result of player input. Thank you Cryptic for your efforts, I appreciate that you are trying to maintain a level of profitability while providing the best ST experience you can. Please keep up the good work.
