Deciding on a new Game?

NanuvenNanuven Member UncommonPosts: 32
Hey I've tried many mmo's from SWG, EQ, Anarchy Online, Planetside, and many *free mmo's that you can download and play for like a say or so.  But they have only attracted me for a short amount of time whenafter I get bored with them and uninstall them.  EQ was the game that I played the longest, but soon after (bout 4 months) I got bored and tried Planetside which only lasted me about 4 weeks.  Then I tried SWG for bout 4 months but then got bored with it.  Anarchy Online lasted me only about a week.  Currently I'm in the market for a game.  I really like the break away from tipical mmo's and a sci-fi theme is pretty cool but there arn't to many on the market right now.  My choices right now are WoW, EVE.  But please give me ur feadback on whatever is a good game that you played.

I've been playing in the Guild Wars betas, and I'm chomping at the bit for the next one - and then the game itself on April 28th. Might be worth a shot, if you haven't tried it yet. Then again, it's not everyone's cup of tea. Based on the above you may be quite a bit more hardcore than I am, but that's just a guess.

Of course, if you are more hardcore.. it would depend on how much you like PVP.

WoW and EVE are both great games, yet they are the exact opposite of each other. I could tell you more then that but my time is limited at the moment, so I suggest you check out the official websites and these very forums.

Eve sounds like it will be closer to what you want... BUT

I think that if EQ help your attention for a month that you will get bored with EVE after a similar time, unless you get involved with a corp that is actively attempting to grow and henced fights a lot. The player markes are great and the politics that have grown in the game is second to none.

Witty saying to amuse you goes here.

I took ^ that to mean that he was asking for other suggestions, aside from the two he's already looking at - EVE and WoW. Not which he'd prefer between the two. Was I incorrect?

If so.. I'd say EVE is probably a better choice for you. It's a little more involved than WoW, in my opinion.. and you won't level to max in a week or two and then get sick of it.

Maybe it is not an MMORPG you are looking for. MMORPG are meant to be immersive which normally means that you get involved in your characters development and also the evolution of the surroundings (community and economics amongst others). This isn't really achieved in the times that you have mentioned. 4 months is not really long enough to really get immersed and definately not hardcore. Long time and RP is more hardcore. Unless you are powerleveling, and u get bored when u have reached the end of game. I agree that many games have a crap end-of-game. Then there is the fact that it is normally very hard to get that felling you normally get from your first MMORPG.

You have to decide what triggers you and what you enjoy. Then it would be easier to help you.

Yeah, it did mean that I wanted some other selections.  Actually no, I got bored basically because in everquest it would take me about an hour to find a decent group to hunt with during the time that I played.  Basically the same goes for the other games, except planetside i quit that game cause i sucked at it :)

I think EVE has one of thoes 14 day free, you can try that out and see if you like it if not WoW is always a good choice.

Someone dont think like you, you tell them to look away from MMORPGs.  Maybe it is you that should look away from a MMORPG and get a life and get REAL involvement with peoples, build a family you love and everything!

A MMORPG is merely a game with others players around, nothing more, nothing less...if you seek more from it, GET A LIFE!

Actually an MMORPG is really about a bunch of things. You get out of an MMORPG what you put into it. It's more than just a game with other people around. Some people make lifelong friendships in MMORPG's some don't. Some enjoy the interaction some just enjoy killing other players, some just enjoy knowing there's another player playing the same game.

Just depends. There's not really a right or wrong way to enjoy an MMO or a right or wrong reason. Anyone who thinks their way is the only way to enjoy an MMO is fooling themselves. I've known people who play MMO's because they're physically incapable of "getting a life". I've also known people who have very active lives (myself included) who also have very active online RPG friendships.

I would challenge you to learn to open your mind before challenging others to 'get a life'. Just because their way of enjoying something isn't yours does not make it wrong.

Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.
    Sig image Pending
    Still in: A couple Betas

I challenge him to get a life when he tell peoples to move away from MMORPG.  You didnt move when he tell peoples to move away from a MMORPG if they didnt want to be in a heavy involving MMO community.  I answer he should get a life and realize IT IS ONLY A GAME, rather then expect peoples to move away from a game.

And there you are, telling me exactly what I will return to you.  Do you really think I want him to stop playing a MMORPG or do you think I want him to stop telling peoples to look for others games when MMORPGs are perfect for them all?  Did I ever tell him to stop playing a MMORPG?  No, I tell him to get a life when he tell others peoples to stop playing MMORPG because they didnt want the involvement he want.  Personnally if I group any player more then 3 times in any game, that player should feel incredibly lucky in a way, because I usually dont.  I like to change and see different folks, for the fun of it.  Which is more open minded?  Those restricting to the same groups all the time or those always seeking differents groups?

You are firing the wrong way my poor friend, and althought like every human beeing I have a LOT of work to do in order to ascend to perfection, I challenge to open your mind and to understand a discussion before answering at random.

PS: I do have some peoples I group a lot more then a few times, but they are the exception.  I dont log on and expect to group friends.  I log on, solo and put my LFG tag...whichever happen first...usually it is new peoples, but some friends I keep grouping them, because it is fun...but I will never goes and wait for peoples in particuliar in order to group, that is just not me.

You would probably like Eve, although it got repetitive for me(lots of mining, from my experience). I would also look at Asheron's Call and Dark Age of Camelot. Both are solid fantasy games that have been around for a while now.

I like AC2. It's a fun game with crafting, quests, a tree for getting new skills, and 18 different advanced professions. Try the AC 2 Free Trial.
