Well I just purchased CO... I played a few nights in the Free trial and enjoyed it. Want to see some more of the game.

I followed this game back when it was in development, Just at the time I was definately more involved in other games. Anyway When it went into Open beta I recieved an invite but didnt try it... kinda burnt on the whole beta testing thing.  Waited for launch but started hearing all the bad reviews... So decided to give it a bit, and here I am now downloading the client off steam.  I will give more feedback later.

Thats it for now.

This game interested me as well. What other MMOs have you played that you liked? Just wondering so I have a better idea if our tastes are similar and therefore how much I can personally trust your judgement :P Let us know what you think.

I think the game is more fun than CoH/CoV, though I do wish there were more varied power options; they all seem roughly similar to each other atm (my opinion, of course).

Games I have played hmm that list is pretty long.. Starting with old EQ1 back in beta..

List i can think of off the top of my head.

EQ1, EQ2, CoHV, Vanguard, WOW, DAoC, GW, Aion, AoC, Earth and Beyond, WAR, Tabula Rasa, Anarchy Offline (LOL), Hellgate London, and Planetside.

Currently I am involved in Aion and now Champions.

I can honestly say there were several things about each of the games I have played that I have enjoyed except for maybe Anarchy OFF err Online which I was could only handle for the first 2 weeks due to constant crashing.

From what I am experiancing right now in Champions is a Fun Fast paced game. The short cut scenes really do alot to add the flavor of the world. Giving it a much more heroic sense than I ever got out of playing CoH/V.. Some of the quests/missions are also alot of fun. You can tell its from the same people who brought us CoH due to the way the contact system works. But overall its better written, once again adding to the flavor of the world..

The amount of customization for your characters in this game is absolutely amazing by far the best I have seen in any game, hands down. However with so many options available to you. It might add a bit of a steep learning curve for some. Allowing them to build a character that might be slihgtly underpowered.. But hey if you enjoy it who cares right?

Combat so far is just awesome. There have been a total of 4 MMOs in my experiance that did something completely different and unique for combat. Planetside (first person shooter) Tabula Rasa with its hybrid approach, Age of Conan with its collision detection combat tactics for mellee at least.. and now this. I mean I am actually attempting to use my Logitech Chillstream console controller to play the game on my computer. I still keep my keyboard close by for certain things. But Man is its fun. Its like playing Xmen on the Xbox but with a hero of my design.

Also the enviroment and being able to react to it they did a great job of. I am playing a character based with Superstrength and as i get stronger i get more option to pick up more types of objects and throw them around.. Yep I am ripping lightpoles out of the ground and throwing them at a group of badguys giving me an AOE attack at range.. Its pretty awesome. Some of the fastest MMO combat I have seen to date.

As for the bad. I have heard that because they have made the game so SOLO friendly with the even the instances scaling that the game is not as sociable as some. But I have a few friends that are coming to play the game with me so we will run instances and missions together. I am always also looking to join others that like to actually play an MMO with other people. I know I know wierd concept..

Currently my main character is level 10.. I would be higher but I keep playing around with the character creator lol and making alts. which is not something i normally do..

OHH one last thing. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the Power room. Its where you go and train your powers. However you can test them out in training rooms before you leave. Battle against holograms and such. If you dont like the power you can go get a different one. That way you can decide to change it without having to spend resources. Great game so far.

Cool cybertrucker. Ya know, you could make a pretty cool cyborgrtrucker toon. Pistols and might attacks maybe?

Thing I really like is the open power system. I'm big on making a character's powers consistent with a story. I don't need to have the most uber toons, but I like them to be viable. The stat structure allows min/maxers and concept people to both play happily. That said, even my sub-optimal builds can solo almost all the Super Villains so far. But I just get groups and turn the difficulty up to make it MMOy.

I too have started playing again.  You can find yourself lost in the power room for hours playing with new abilities.  Dont let being a lvl 10 stop you.  you can sidekick with poeple, meaning they can come down yo your lvl to play or you can go up to theirs.  feel free to contact me in game if you want some help.  @godzilr1

It is a rather solo friendly game, but I find that a ton of people group just for the hell of it. I can't remember at the lower lvls, but I know 25+ I found it generally easy to find a group. Also, there's usually something or another going on around the main courtyard in Millennium City, and a ton of people are often RPing in the nightclub.

Been alting a lot and am in groups 50% of the time at low levels. I do make some effort to group though, with something like, "planning to knock out a bunch of the missions here lvls X to X, anyone wanna run thru em?" I also help any time I see someone asking for help with a mish, even if I've done it. The share mission feature is very useful for grouping, still get XP for missions you've already done ftw.

character creation is amazing, as is earning extra costume slots as you level up (ive seen people who had sleak armor looks, and switch to the offensive role simultaneously switching to a heavy mech appearance...pretty cool).  even a human appearnce and switch to a feral form - in effect a werewolf character...these things are the games greatest strengths.

the game is a lot of fun for at least one playthrough to max level.  there wasnt much to do at then, and at the time you had to do literally everything in every zone to reach max level without resorting to grinding. so i had little interst to level up alts. grinding for costume pieces, doing the same handful of 5 man dungeons, no thanks.  but i enjoyed doing the various world bosses.

it is a fun game while it lasts.

i quit before the vibora bay zone and the latest expansion, so things may be a bit different now.  i have been considering giving it another go, as well.

I'm almost finished downloading the demo from Steam.  Is the demo a good representation of what I'll experience with the full game?

    Currently Playing: Nothing...I'm developing.

     Yes and no.

You get a small sense of the general playstyle (blocking, energy builders, ability to throw things) but you either 1. have to do the same things over and over or 2. don't level very high and don't get to see the complexity of how powers (especially from different sets) combine. In brief, you don't have many limits on what powers you get in game. If you want a force-field, fire flight, chain wielding, super strong, ninja, werebunny, you can have one, but you wouldn't easily be able to level one up in the demo.

The crisis aspect carries through to other zones.

The interacting, helping NPC heroes as well.

While you can unlock other costume parts in game by defeating groups etc., i think you get a good sense of the tailor in the tutorial.

Hey all had some RL issues come up that had me away from the computer for about 2 weeks.. Anyway Got back to playing Champions online again this week.. Figured I would give a new update and answer the question about the trial..

The trial while fairly fun doesnt  give you any idea about how customizable your character gets at higher levels.. I am actually at the point now where i am like Ok i have enough powers I just wish I could get more ranks... The game is absolutely amazing.  The quests can be kinda generic like many MMOs but the actual gameplay combat etc etc.. is much faster paced than most any other MMO out currently that I can think of. They really did capture the feeling of being heroic.. Also unlike CoH (for those that have played) each area you enter you get the sense of urgency on why they need heroes. CoH that stopped after the intro area for hte most part...

I plan on keep playing .. Actually putting my Aion account on hold  for the time being as i dont have time to play 2 games. Went back the other night to play some Aion and it just seemed so slow in comparison.

I did end up buying the game, and ended up playing all day yesterday (except for a break to watch Sunday night Simpsons & Seth).  I played all day not because I need to hit max level or some crap like that, I played because I just didn't want to stop having fun.  Like the previous post stated, the game definitely does a great job giving that feeling of heroism while throwing in challenges here and there.  The quest text is also worth reading, that is if you like to laugh.

So, when my spirits are down after playing some APB, this seems to be the remedy.

Edit:  I also wanted to add a bit about the in-game community.  From what I saw yesterday, it seems to be filled with real gamers...folks who play games to have fun, and have some experience with a vast array of different kinds of games (and a lot of them I have played).  I saw references to AD&D, several board games, and new and old video games.  Plus the internet short-hand seems to be at a minimum (that crap drives me nuts).

Glad you're having fun. One thing that is a little different about CO is that it really breeds altaholism. That may be good or bad, but for a new player, I'd just note that you can almost always find someone to team with by asking in the main zones. A lot of people will either sidekick down or switch to an alt to play with you. While I personally would like to see more group oriented content, this coupled with the difficulty setting, does allow you to group if you're proactive.
