Dark Age of Camelot: New Patch is Live

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The v1.105 patch has been deployed on all Dark Age of Camelot servers according to the dev team. Major changes with this patch include an update to the training window UI, Banshee class balancing, an increase in displayed buffs, epic armor upgrades and more.

The training window UI will now allow players to train all of their spec lines and their Realm Abilities with the push of a single button. Sliders have been added to ease the process of which line to train as well as show players exactly what will be trained to what level. In addition newly acquired styles and spells are immediately shown to the player so they can make more informed choices about their character’s progression. You can find out more details on the new training window UI in a recent letter from producer Stuart Zissu.

I started playing 2 days after release and played it steady for 3 years and off / on again for another 2 years. Nothing I have played since has been as fun as old school DAoC lol.

Man I miss that game sometimes.

If you have never tried it give it a go, you may be pleasantly suprised just how fun it is even for an old game.

Best surviving PVP/RVR game out there IMHO

Sadly I became an eye candy addict and didn't play for 2 years. Trying to go back now is really overwhelming (and ugly in my eyes lol!)

    Oh the memories!

you guys know people still play this game and its not nearly as dead as some of you think.  In fact, it has one of the best communities around.  Very welcoming, very mature.

they did some server merges which helped out tremendously.  Seriously, if you havnt played DAoC you should give it a shot.  Youd be surprised at its "hook"

DAoC is alive and well and very competitive.  Perhaps the best battle grounds are Thidranki (no one above level 24) and then big boy RvR (50+).  I'm a relatively new player, so I can't compare to the "old" days, but I do know this is a highly addictive game with the best real time pvp that I've found.  If I'm not able, due to timing, to play with my guild mates or simply in the mood for something different than what others are doing, I can almost always find cool people in the battle grounds.  So come out and I'll kill you a few times *wink* .... Midgard All the Way!

I tried playing this, but the UI was terrible, could not bind keys, could not set the graphical settings. Does not work very well with Windows 7.  :(

  • TazzasaurusTazzasaurus Member Posts: 33

you can bind keys but you have to have played it in the old days to know how since it's a very old engine :p

only problem daoc has still ( I started playing again after 4 years) is there is a lot of stuff that you normally wouldn't know unless you played it back in the day logistically.

This game definitely was amazing back in the day. The heart-pounding RvR was an experience no other game has provided. I think one of the biggest awesome-factors in this game was the unknown. There was no thottbot for DAoC. Playing as a young character, dungeon delving was fun as hell, you never really knew what you'd find.

Very magical and fun PvE world, and the best pvp in existence. Would love to see a DAoC2 some day.

If they're doing any UI updates, that's a good sign. Maybe they'll revamp the entire thing over time. And seriously, it was great back in the day, yeah, but there are still thousands playing now who say "screw the rest, DAoC is still the best." Updating the UI (since graphics are pretty good for a 9 year old game) is a step in the right direction to get the rest of us back in.

I know that some people do not like not having the most "pretty" things to look at, however, if anyone is seriously interested in game play, DAoC graphics more than get the job done.  I have a 32 inch screen and enjoy the head bashing just fine.  I have played the game since it came out.

In what other game on the market will you find yourself in an RvR [PvP] battle group so large that you have to turn off the sea of names in order to see enemies?

I do not play WoW any more.  Yes, there are lots of web sites offering all kinds of helps that can be plugged into the game, on the other hand, you NEED all of those add-ons to play, at least until you know where every mob, every quest, and all crafting materials are located [even then you can have a difficult time collecting because of all the competition for the same resources].  Why wasn't WoW sold with all of this necessary baggage to begin with?

No so with DAoC, yes, you may get stumped, and most of the time you can get help from a guild member or players in the game.  Those times you still need a little help you can find it on line quickly.  You do not need a boat load of add-ons and you do not need to keep updating those add-ons ...

DAoC is still a fun game to play and there are lots of good, mature people playing.

Grab the free download and get a taste of fun.

The game is not dead, especially since they merged the EU and US servers together. Finding a fight in a RvR zone can be done at any time of the day because of the difference in time zones. The problem with daoc though is that they have invested so much money and time into Warhammer that they are really not spending half as much time as they should on this game.

I played daoc since release and for 2 years after, I then went on and off after that. I recently returned again after a absence of about a year and after a month I let my subscriptions end. Not because of lack of action in rvr or because I could not cope with new changes to classes or the pve, but because it is unfortunatly very obvious that mythic are just going to let this game die rather than accept warhammer is a flop. I know alot of WAR fans will argue with me here, but I think the majority of warhammer players will agree the game has failed to deliver. I myself in WAR was involved in the world first king takedown on KEP, was (I think) 2nd or 3rd max lvl choppa in EU and was in a very good group v group guild, so this is not a, "I couldn't play the game therefore it sucks" post because I really did not struggle with it :)

The only major thing I can see them doing now with daoc is after a year or 2 when the server populations become near unplayable, they will then release daoc: origins (for those that don't know its basically a new server so all start from lvl1 and will be like old skool daoc, the way it should have stayed) to give the game another 2 years of life.

So in short, daoc is not dead... but if you play it at present you will be there to watch it slowly die and be paying to do so.

Thanks for the info. Daoc is one of the few mmos that I'd play right now for their 3-faction RvR gameplay (& setting is good).

I think I'll hang on for GW2 WvWvW PvP option, which hoping is the spiritual successor to Daoc's legendary RvR. WAR was a total exercise in futility with it's 2-factions running back and forth between keeps. Loved the graphics and T1 Empire PvP lakes are still good, but what a missed opportunity: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
