If SOE brought back pre-CU SWG.... (take 2)

DeeweDeewe Member UncommonPosts: 1,980

As per the last reveal setting space combat in a tunnel shooter, going along all restrictions imposed on your play style from Gear, LS and  species restrictions to no choice at space ship chassis,

If SOE brought back pre-CU.... Would you play SWG Pre-CU with JTL over TOR?

I'd rather keep my integrity and say no.

If they popped out a new server thats pre-NGE I would play on it, but if SWTOR was also out then I likely wouldnt even do that

Most people don't even know the terms "Themepark" and "Sandbox" when talking about MMOs. I'm also not demanding anything other then a fun game that last me some time, sandbox or not.

You can't bring back an old game and expect the community to be the same as it used to.

Common guys, I know its hard to let it go, I myself have been a SWG since Beta and left with the release of NGE. Lets just hope Bio-Ware notices all of the Pre-CU/NGE players and cashes in on our post "red-headed step-child" traumatic deprivation syndrome.

Who could have though that a single video game could keep so many Therapists employed....Move on already, mates. This can't be healthy.

I don't think it would take out WOW or to rephrase that,  I think the market is too saturated and plays up to EZ mode playstyles to have a 11 million sub sandbox, that being said, I doubt you will see a Themepark with any better numbers.

On the other hand though, I believe without a doubt that the CCP White Wolf mmorpg ( WOD ) will beyond a doubt kill this game. Since that game is building for most likely a 300 to 400k player base, where as TOR is building for a 3 to 6 million player base but will probably get 200k.

I wouldn't play it for a second, but I still wish SOE would do this.  Why?  Well, I want the SWG fanboys to GTFO of my KOTOR discussions and stop giving crappy feedback where it does not belong.

The SWG vets certainly seem to do enough of that. I am of the opinion now that I hope SWToR does not attract them. I do not want a community full of old, angry, bitter people.

What if we all vote the option Certainly ? Maybe they go away then.

    If I played it..

My reason would only be so the majority of people I don't have any reason to interact with wouldn't be there.   As they would be off in the "new game" crying about "nerf this and nerf that"

    I voted for playing both.

I adored SWG back in Pre-CU and would most probably return if the game was ever to be reprised.  Even though my dislike for SOE is bordering on all out hatred, I would still be very tempted to return.

However, there is no way in hell that I would pass up on SW:ToR.  I love BioWare games and I love Star Wars.  Put those two together and I am in gaming heaven.

BioWare are taking a completely different direction with SW:ToR than SOE did with Pre-CU SWG, but that doesn't mean that I won't love the game.  I enjoy well made themepark MMO's just as much as I love well made sandbox MMO's and so far what I have seen of SW:ToR has been very impressive indeed.

    MMORPG History:
    Playing - EVE Online.
Played (Retired) - AO, SWG, MxO, WoW, RFO, SoR, CoX, EQ2, GW, L2, Vanguard, LotRO, AoC, TCoS, Aion.
    Favourite MMO - Pre-CU SWG, 3 Years, 4 Accounts, 2 Pre-CU Jedi (1 Pre-9).
Awaiting - Star Wars: The Old Republic, The Secret World, Earthrise.

I'm a vet but voted "Hell no!"

It would have been "too little too late" about 4 years ago.

Bioware really need to stay away from the whining NGE crowd.

SWTOR By Bioware , for Bioware fans it is just win win win. Cannot wait to play this game or just wander the worlds.

Bioware will be WoW style.  I'm not calling it a WoW clone.  But it will for sure be theme park, olding your hand the entire way type of MMO.  I doubt anyone can deny that.  Pre  CU was nothing like that.  They are completely different game styles.  Trying to ask if people who would play TOR would play SWG instead, given the circumstances, is just dumb.

That being said, we all know SOE is too stupid to bring back pre CU SWG.  I don't believe the lies when they say they don't have the code.  If you don't use a server to back up different versions of builds then you are dumb, like previously mentioned.  Another possibility is they believe, as in past times, that they know better than we do, and won't release it.  They probably think that we talk a lot and are the "whining minority on the forums".  I can't honestly say why they wouldnot being back PRE CU.  By all accounts it would make sense from a  business standpoint.  But this is SOE, again, so who knows wtf they are thinking.

Agreed. Let's hope the community isn't full of adolescent, stupid, complacent sheeple either!

I must be frank with you,. I don't think SWTOR wi9ll even be 'wow-style'. WoW, after all, is a pretty good game because it is consistent and coherent and, while it is skewed for a younger audience, is not always simple and it''s certainly not simplistic. SWTOR, I believe, may be 'too simple'.

Not a chance, unlike many on here I play video games for the "story" and the "adventure" I have no real desire to eek out a miserable existence as one of the many ants in the colony as often said.  Having said that I loved the sandbox that was SWG but people stop fooling yourselves into thinking even that sandbox mmo could be commercially successful.  Fun I don't discount but the average burger flipper has no desire to go home and do what amounts to the same thing in a video game.  SWG was a flawed game even outside of the things SOE did with the CU and NGE, with that being my first mmo I didn't know I could actually play mmo's with engaging story and plot lines, working stable features and good graphics.  Since leaving SWG though I can see how shafted we were and I would not pay money for a game with as many "tacky" and game breaking bugs as SOE offered up through my time in SWG.

Bioware is a company I trust even more than Sony (my favorite electronics company) which is ironic considering the low opinion I have of SOE.  They've always crafted highly engaging games that made it quite easy to delve in the tail we wove together (me by playing them by designing).

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

Did you really have to make another one of these?

    And no.

Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

     (mod edit)

Yet once again we have that topic brought over here.

I will throw general chat on ignore at times when it gets bad.  I can see chat will be turned off always while playing TOR, as some tool will not be able to keep their mouth shut about the PRECioUs.

I voted Hell No as well.

It would be so nice if they enforced putting SWG players onto their own servers in TOR. Any mention of that damn cluster-frack game SWG,  in general chat, earning a perma-ban on the servers for the rest of us.

Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.

The question really isn't applicable because SWG pre-CU is a dead issue. It ain't gonna happen, therefore the question is mute.

Let's party like it is 1863!

been playing swg since beta.  its ironic that people cry about their sandbox being taken away. im still rping, travelling through space to different planets, chatting up in the cantinas, crafting uber ship components, adding to my study/museum.  they changed a lot of the rules,  but the immersion is still there if you want it.

    KOTOR > SWG > SWTOR.

    KOTOR is a solo RPG

    SWG is a mmo

SWTOR looks like a solo hyper casual game with a sub with Clone Wars design.
