They aren't. Hopefully there will be a good spread of localizations on each server, but we will see soon I guess.
I never played FF11... was it the same way, no localization specific servers? Doesn't that seem odd to not have localized servers? If you localize the servers doesn't that give you a better chance to find a group of people to game with in your time zone? Otherwise you are picking 1 of X servers and then looking for a small subset of people on that random server that are available in your time slot.

hmmmm
FFXIV will be the same as FFXI in that the servers are all located in Japan and players from all timezones and regions will be gaming together.
Does anybody have any info about what the server adresses are (IPs) for us to be able to ping or tracert to them? I'm really worried about having horrible connection to Japan. I've only had the chance to play FFXI for a month and my sub isn't active right now to do a netstat and fish one of the IPs from there to ping. Sadly, couldn't google the answer to this question as well. I'm not sure if they will use same servers for FFXIV (probably not), but even adresses of some FFXI servers will do.
It would help many of us, living in weird places (Israel here) to know how good the connection will be. FFXI used to work allright but the way the game is made I could hardly feel any ping since combat was more like chess online.
I know there is an open beta incoming and we will most probably have the chance to try it out before the game release but knowing how many people will probably be there I'm guessing it's gonna be a 1-2k latency lagfest anyway to be able to bet on that. Would rather ping the servers right now, while they are still in closed beta.
If any beta tester is willing to do a netstat while the client is running and giving us at least one of the possible servers it would be very much appreciated.

IF a server ends up being named Sephiroth I'm sure it will be the highest load server.
there is one and i was also thinking about going to that one, then I saw the ms readings. Mine for Seph is till good but I have better options. I think it will be very populated so I am suggesting it to all my buddies now
I bet the Kefka and Ultimecia servers will be just as crowded. And probably have a more lasting server population, with the Seph server maybe losing its pop after they all ditch the game, because the sort of people who would play on that server are the sort who would get bored after 2-3 months?
Just postulating...
Watch the Chaos or Emperor Server's have the highest pop after a year or so...
I know they made FFXI run is such a way as to be able to work smoothly on dial up. I think what they did was put everything on your computer, and just send tiny bits of info back and forth to the server, the bits representing a new character walking by, a new monster appearing, etc. etc. and your computer just interpretting those bits and giving you the character walking by and the monster appearing. The only time the server's being in Japan was a problem really was when a HNM would spawn a split second earlier for the Japanese players than for the NA players, giving them a tiny but annoying advantage on claiming HNM's....
Yeah what I am trying to do is figure out a spot a couple different groups of friends can land. It might come down to me saying pick the 1st server starting w/ S or the next highest 1 up..../shrug
If having the billion different forms of Sephiroth on every online game possible wasn't enough, now there is a server for all of them to go!
I forgot that Sephiroth was in FF, just haven't thought about it I guess. I swear to God if I see one Sephiroth variant I'm going to come to your house and kill you with your own computer.

I'll be right behind ya.
I'll even take the fall for it if you manage to catch em' all.
"We got rid of the trinity." How'd you do that? "Now everyone can heal." Sounds like you just took the mechanic and spread it thin. "Well no, there's one class that can do it better than others." I see, so they're healers. "No. They're.." -mind asplode-

Anyway to know what server might be EST in that list?
I don't think servers will be localized.

http://www.ffxiv-status.com/ gives the ping from their own site to the servers, not your ping.

The Stranger: It's what people know about themselves inside that makes 'em afraid.
Nah, I'll avoid that server, but if you want to hang out with thousands of other "Sephiroth" , feel free and have fun with that.

"When it comes to GW2 any game is fair game"
How did the latency affect FFXI? I tried playing some games with US based servers when I was in Europe and it was horrible (500-1,000 MS).
As for needing server IP address. Why? If they are all physically located in Japan I can't think of why any of them would be different.
