My only issue is with the name.
Why would a race adopt a name that was essentially a comparison to the larger races. I understand its use in Tolkien's work because Tolkien based his races off of mythology but it just seems that a writer might want to create a race that had its own proud name.
Sure the larger races might refer to them as "dwarves" but the "dwarves" should have their own name for their race.

Why are Dwarves always typecast as builders, manual laborers, weaponsmakers? I want to see a dwarven painter or ballet dancer. How about Dwarven philosophers, violinists, pediatrists?
