With the technology now a days

Will we be able to run or maybe have a program that woudl allow us to log on using our headset and mics so we have less typing to do and we could role play from voice?

I know its pretty far fetch it would be like playing UL with everyone on the phone chatting away...

And i know people are doing it and have been doing it, so if we are doing it already why not implement it and have it controled by the laws of the game, like no ooc and stuff like that.

Actually, I suggested this a while ago. I think most people didn't like the idea. Imagine a room full of 50 people trying to voice chat, someone said something about it taking away from roleplaying if a girl was trying to play a guy or vice versa but voice filters kind of kill that argument. Personally I like the idea of being able to have your character debate in a hall or ridicule someone after they've been collapsed, or even while they're being collapsed. Having this wouldn't really prevent people from talking on the phone, there's no real way to prevent that but it would offer them an alternative to it.

    oh yea now i remember...

I do like the idea, but i remember another concern was going to talk to a ruler and hearing the voice of twelve year old may ruin the "suspension of disbelief", but voice filters could fix that too.

Hmm, can't think of a way around 50 people in one room all talking at the same time though.....

    ....and life goes on

The simplest way would be, the further away the person is the lower the volume of their voice. To the point that they aren't even heard if you are far enough away.

That would be ideal and revolutionary in the game business jonci... Really it would be out of this world to have a game able to do just that. But i question if our technology is that far ahead, because you would need some damn good coding in this.

For example taking in account the mapping of just one room, you would need to put formulas if a player is at point x1 only the dreamers around X1 thru x10 could hear the dreamer at point X1. Now if that dreamer is at point X5 the dreamer at X1 could hear X5 but also would X15 could hear the X5 faintly that is, i don't know if you catching what i say, but every single step or pixel in the game woudl have to be configured in this matter so it could work. I used that as an example but it would go as a Radius.

Now to go even deeper, what if a dreamer is in the radius to hear the other but there is a wall in between them, there shoudl be no way for that sound to cross over the wall if you understand what i mean, so those things would have to be held in consideration.

What If players can set their voice, to shout, say and whisper, then each type of speaking could have a different radius.

Now what about logging what you say? I know people like to log to review what was said and also to learn more about the game and so on, but how could we log people that speaks? Then we woudl have to log the conversations... that would kill any hard drive within a week he he he.

I really love the idea but as i said i don't think the technology is that advance still.

I've thought of it and thought it would be very cool too, but I saw the previous suggestion a bit back (someone beat ME to the punch for once) so I didn't say anything further. It WOULD be nice to have something like that, or even, kick it up a notch by using EAX sound when avaliable on PC's to distort voices with various affects from various rooms, like having it echo in caverns.

Here's a good compromise though, 2 way system. By default you type what you say out like you do in UL, if you do not sound like your character, well good, just stick with this feature. THEN, make microphone speech OPTIONAL!

That way, if your voice isn't too far off, you can plug in a mic and play it the way JM suggests. With this system, NOBODY is making you disguise your voice into something it isn't, yet those who want to roleplay with their voice now have the option.

Now how reasonable does THAT sound?

    This could be really cool...
Still, I'm kind of worried about the game developing XBLJS (that's Xbox Live Jackass Syndrome for the uninformed). Of course GMs will be moderating Reclamation... Still... I'm worried.

Well, there's the fact I'm 100 percent certain there will be an option in chat just like in UL to "report" lamers.

And since these guys are paying for these accounts and invested time in their char they'll be less likely to throw away their money.

Though I can see some lameness in beta since free acounts mean there's no monetary loss if being a jackass gets you shut out.

Yeah, you could report them but would there be any proof of it? Would voice chats be recorded? If so, wouldn't that take up a lot of space?

  • StrikesBrainStrikesBrain Member Posts: 222

But it shouldn't be too much of a problem to store daily compressed logs to a drive, or even just from the last few hours, then they get deleted.  Whenever someone issues a report the system could tag and store 30 hours of logs either way from that timestamp in that particular room.  Then if the reviewer can opt to delete the logs if they do not play into the situation.

The problem with logs is it's hard to skim over audio though.

True, but they could look at the time the complaint was submitted and pair that with the time on the audio log...

  • JMandrakeJMandrake Member Posts: 139

yep that is my only worry would be people would abuse the system to harass other players...

pitty when you look at the world we live in and there are some that feeds on such things as making an ass out of themselves and just bringing down people that enjoys a certain past time that other people enjoys.

But on the game side it would be revolutionary and would probebly open alot of doors since its never been done. If a way of monitoring the voice chat for any stupidities would appear i would say go for it.
