Question on Combat

KorhagenKorhagen Member Posts: 16

Hi,

Just a small Question on some footage i watched on the combat in the game and i was wandering if someone could clarified it for me,

When you choose say Marauder and then also choose to go with a lancer,

your Lancer abilities seem to be available for use with your marauder as well?

how does this work in a combat situation?

are the abilities of the lancer less effective on enemy's when used with your marauder?

and any other information you may have would be wonderful,

thanks for your time and effort,

(its not a marauder depicted in the footage, this was just an example for my own builds. )

I cannot find the video , it was on Youtube, by a Rok something fellow beta .

Not sure if this is the video but here http://www.youtube.com/user/RocsLock#p/u/7/dEpzv1bkZwg

Last i saw not all class skills can be inter changed and that the cooldown periods varied when you equiped them in different classes.

You can  use most skills on any class you whant to put them , but they are weaker if used on a diferent class. i think how they are weaker is problably gonna depend on many factors to say at this point , at least until release.Atm all i have seen is longer cool downs , but im fairly sure some does not have the same strenght as well when not used on its class.

All right here's a basic lay out.

    Class 1 gets a new skill at level 2, 4, 6, 8, 10

    Class 2 gets a new skill at level 2, 4, 6, 8, 10

The level 4 skill from class 1 and the level 6 skill from class 2 are class specific meaning you can only equip them if you're that specific class, period. Everything else can be used on any other combat(magic or physical) class. However most or all skills equipped on a non native class will be weakened.

A specific example is Second Wind, learned as a level 6 pugilist. It uses 250tp (the points you get for attacking) and restores health. On my pugilist, it has a cooldown of about 60 seconds and I think heals 200-250 health. When I equip it on my lancer, it has a cooldown of about 90 seconds and heals roughly 150. Same for attack skills. Most combat classes get early ones that do around 2.5x your base damage, sometimes with a status effect, for 1000tp spent. If you equip it on another class, it'll only do around 1.5x-2x your base damage instead. Mage spells that are AOE will only be single target(and weaker) equipped on a physical damage dealing class, but I'm not sure if an AOE conjurer spell would still be AOE on a thaumaturge, I've barely touched the magic classes myself.

Nice info - I'd also like to add (I'm not in beta, this is what I've heard) that magic abilities will not only vary with cooldown but also cast time when equipped to a non-magic class in most cases.

Some skills are specific to your class (including any you get at level 1 I believe), others are specific to your discipline, others are specific to combat disciplines only and vice versa.

You may equip any skills that meet their specific requirements for class and skill so long as you are the same rank or higher in which you learned that skill with the other class.  For example, a level 10 marauder would have access to all lancer skills up to level 10, if he'd leveled a lancer up to level 10 (barring special exceptions).

So a question for those in BETA without breaking NDA, is the combat slow like in the videos, or does it offer something new and exciting and fun ??

    This is not correct.

You can equip high level skills on other classes of lower rank. At least in beta.

    For example:

I levelled Conjurer to 10 and then switched to Thurm. As a rank 1 THM i equipped the rank 10 Conjuer skill Radiance and it worked, altho not with the potency it did on Conj obviously.

So we can make basic hybrid classes out of our basic set classes, by combining skills,

do the crafting and gathering classes gain bonus from the combat classes and Vice-versa  ?

Thanks again in advance guys image

Hmm...I was just going off what I'd read in previous SE announcements.  Though those were subject to change, of course.  It would be interesting to see if that's how it happens at launch...
