Worried about running this on max settings...

OmgZombiesOmgZombies Member Posts: 141

Even with a decent graphics card (gtx 260) and an i7 processor,  I have a bad feeling I won't be able to run this on max settings in some areas, judging from the new trailer.

While I can run AoC and Aion on high with good FPS, the amount of things happening, especially during dynamic quests, makes it look like I might start to slow down from time to time.

The graphics look somewhat similar to GW1, but I just want to make sure I can get the most out of this game :P

On another note, anyone upgrading their rig just for GW2?

The latest trailer caused a lot of this unnecessary worry :D

The game is pretty, but it is because of the style mainly. It is in no way technically better looking then a demanding game like crysis with regards to shadowing, post processing and the like. The engine is based off the original guild wars, and has been given a nice new 2010 sheen, but it's definitely not the best looking game i've seen. In comparison to the other 'good looking' mmo: Age of conan has a piece of trash engine that is horribly optimized, but that still runs fine on such a setup.

A gtx260 will be more than good enough to max (most likely at 60fps) :) If not you'll be running so close to maximum you won't really need to care.

I'm getting a new laptop partly because my current one fails to run games on max settings and well... my current laptop is falling apart.

Maybe with this new high powered laptop im getting it would be able to run GW2 extremely well. And if so... thank you God.

Thanks, just what I needed to hear to.  Now I just hope I can still run it on max at launch with 10k PCs on my screen at a time.

The dev has stated that they test the game with an 8600gt. Though I'm not sure that is what was used to show the 3 trailers, it still seems good. All throughout devolpment of both GW1 and GW2, the team have always aimed to make the game run on middle-ish machines.

    Here's a thing from their FAQ's.

What are the system requirements for Guild Wars 2?

The system requirements haven't been finalized, but just as with the original Guild Wars series, we're committed to creating a beautiful game that will play great on mid-range gaming PCs.

They also utilize UMBRA culling. It's sophisticated and not worth explaning on a thread, but UMBRA has it's own site.

Lol you got i7 processor and you are worried?!

If you can play crysis on a  intel core 2 duo on entusiastic settings, then you can play gw2 lol.

Can't run Bad Company 2 on anything higher than low/medium-low in multiplayer with a decent fps, so I was kinda worried.  :P

I already upgraded my processor, and in the coming months I will be going with a GTX 460. So yea, but I am upgrading not only for this game, the several other new games on the horizon that will be demanding when it comes to graphics wise.

FYI just because you have a good CPU doesn't mean you can run a game at max settings.

Heh... not to mention it was horribly optimized.

Right, he will need a good graphics card, but then again we woudln't know until the game comes out. May be like crysis when it came out nobody was capable of running it on high settings until they released the new graphics cards.

That GPU the OP got isn't bad, but you may want to consider the newer ones out.  I'm one of those competitive types of Gamer's though when it comes to my rig.

In the future I may buy a new MOBO, just because this one is holding me back.  I got an amd phenom 2 940 BE x4 3ghz @ 3.4 ghz in it right now. Pretty much the best I can get on this mother board I believe. Which isn't too bad, I could get another one that is better, but than I have to upgrade the bios for that.

Guild wars 2, if it runs well on a 8600 GT, will not be struggling on a gpu that is around 3-4 times stronger than it. Anyone with a gtx2 series/hd4 series gpu above a gtx260 or a hd4850 will most likely breeze guild wars 2 with no problems.

It is, after all, only a mmorpg.

Do you guys think I can run GW2 with my laptop? At least medium settings and on 1366x768 resolution.

    CPU: i7-720qm 1.6ghz

    RAM: 4GB DDR3-1333 Mhz

    GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon 5730

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)

btw, I can run EotN and Lion's Arch at 60 fps. Rata Sum jumps from time to time, but mostly stays at 60 fps and minimum at 49.

    (AA x4, Max settings)

    Thanks.

EDIT: This is with vertical sync. When I removed it, it ran at an average of 200 fps in Kamadan District 1.

Arenanet are better programmers than FunCom and NC Soft.  The original Guildwars runs fine on a P3 processor.

The GTX 260 is however a few years old mid range card so you should be able to run it at high but not to max it out, that is at least an educated guess. With a 280 or 295 you should max it fine.

As for upgrading for GW2, I just upgraded for that and other games that are to be released soon, I don't see me playing at less than maxed out.

In your case, a somewhat faster GFX card and possibly a little more ram (if you have less than 8GB) should do the trick for all the upcoming games 2011.

I wonder if it supports X-Fire/SLI? I would check that up before getting another card, most MMOs don't. I would guess GW2 does but it never hurts to check.
